Try to stick with it and sometimes antidepressants in the class that Zoloft is in does indeed cause sleep disturbance. The issue too is that Zoloft is not generic. You have different companies manufacturing the medication and all will be slightly different. Side effects can also be a little different.
Switch to morning, give it some time and if you still have sleep disturbance, consider a medication switch. But talk to your doctor about all of this.
Has Zoloft helped anyone with sleep? I've just started on 6.25 mg because of depression and anxiety caused by insomnia. My MD says Zoloft will help me sleep within about three weeks. Anyone have any experiences to share? Thanks!
I have just started taking zoloft 50mg, and the 3 side affects that i am noticing are headaches, teeth grinding and definitely tiredness and yawning.
Tonight day 2 no sleep. Took .5 mg ativan. Dozed off for an hour wide awake but very tired. Just took 5 mg ambien tired but no sleep. Help. will call psychiatrist in morning. Thought I would post again. Up at 4:30 for work at 6 am. Taking my zoloft before going to work has helped during day but by mid afternoon the shakes of being tired set in go to lunch in car to try taking nap, a no go. I am only on 12.5 Zoloft. How long insomnia last.
I have been having really bad anxiety on and off. The Dr. gave me Zoloft and it seems to have helped with my anxiety. But as it is I have a very hard time getting restful sleep. When I do sleep I have ongoing dreams and my mind doesn't get any rest. Now with the Zoloft my sleep is much less restful. Any suggestions?
I had to take klonopin (keep on hand for SITUATIONAL anxiety) to sleep once starting Zoloft. i never ever had insomnia or problems going back to sleep before the Zolfoft. The sexual side effects were much harsher with zoloft, agitation, you name it.
The zoloft is probably working against the sleep aid and you are caught in the middle. Prozac is in the same family as zoloft but they were light years apart for me.
My doctor put me on zoloft 2 days ago. Many of the sleep meds I've tried don't help me. I've had to do .25 klonopin to go to sleep. I feel starting the zoloft has given me wakefulness. So I called my doctor this morning and she wants me to do .5 or 1mg klonopin every night at bedtime for the next 2 weeks. I'm scared if taking a benzos like this.
We're all so different and respond to these meds differently. It's not uncommon to have increased anxiety when you increase your med dose. If this is really bothersome or you're not able to sleep then you should give your Dr a call.
I hated zoloft, only lasted 3 weeks, i could not sleep, it suppressed my appetite, had NO prayer of going back to sleep once i woke up and that would be after 3 or 4 days of no sleep. The numb noodle thing was unbearable, no hope of finishing the job...if you know what i mean, i dont want to be selfish in the bedroom but it was unbearable.
You will see many that will say give it more time the effects will pass.
i know pregnancy makes things a lot different but while i was taking it my dr suggested i take it right when i wake up to avoid the insomnia.. turns out Zoloft made me sleep so i took it at night instead.. play around with the time of day you take it and it should all come together. Good luck..that medication was great to me.
I took 100mg zoloft Sun min tues and I can't sleep now since Sun the 13th of April 2015 it's now the 17th I've tried sleeping pills n melatonin n nothing works does anyone kno when I'll be able to sleep please let me know thanks
I just started on Zoloft and was wondering how long it takes the side effects to go away. Do you get worse befoer you get better?
Over the past 4 months, I have tried zoloft, lexapro, celexa, buspar, and now Zoloft again. I was given the 25mg tabs and told to take half (12.5) due to my body is apparently very sensitive to these type of meds. I was taking it at night, but i could not fall asleep. I would be dog tired, but couldnt flip the switch.

About a month ago, several things happened.
I suffer from chronic prostatitis and I had an outbreak. My 10 year old son went to visit relatives overseas. It was the first time he was away from home. Finally, my cousin died of cancer.
The prostatits made me very uncomfortable but I was coping with it. The inclusion of the other events resulted in severe anxiety. I started taking 25 mg. Zoloft about three weeks ago.
It is now a month later.
but I can only take one Benadryl anyway as 2 gives me jitters. Tonight I will just take the Ativan. Hopefully get some sleep. The Zoloft in morning at least kept me awake during the day but now I am pretty tired. I was on Zoloft years ago and wasn't on Ativan. Hopefully next week can bump it to 25 mg like I was supposed to. Anxiety still there and I don't like to be on Ativan if I don't need to.
What I can have to help me sleep at night whilst starting up on sertraline that's causing me high anxiety and not being able to sleep (insomnia) I started a week ago on 50mg now upped to 100mg 2 days ago iv had zopiclone on and off since June when all this anxiety started and now my doctor won't prescribe me any more but was just wondering if a benzo will help with the sleep issue until the sertraline kick in and work for me, iv been on sertraline in August for 3 week it worked for 5
I used to take Zoloft a few years ago it never made me sleepy I took it in the mornings as soon as I woke up, try taking it at night so that u go to sleep anyway.
t want to take it as a sleeping aide as your body may become used to it and need it to help you sleep a goods night sleep. It is fine to take it before falling asleep of course. I have klonopin to take as needed (which is rare) but when I do take .5mg or 1mg I am usually knocked out within the hour. Which is why I now take .25mg.
You should talk to your doctor about taking Zoloft again if it worked well for you before.
it was just a coincidence. I started Zoloft 50mg and the tinnitus subsided. At zoloft 100mg, it subsided even more, almost disappearing. I went off Zoloft completely again and the tinnitus returned with all its fury. I started again and the tinnitus once again subsided. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'll keep taking Zoloft for tinnitus, even though I feel no need for an anti-depressant.
I have been on Zoloft for 4 weeks and cant sleep. My Dr increased the dosage to 150mgs and it has not helped. I stay up all night, and when I go to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror, my pupils are dilated. Is this normal? Told my Dr I was going to stop taking it and she insist I stay on it. She says Im being childish and that I need to take Seroquel at night to sleep, and to take the Zoloft in the mornings. I am sick of taking anymore pills!
I've been taking Zoloft for the past 3 months. I started at 50mg, then moved up to 75, then I've been taking 100mg for the last week or so. My psychiatrist just bumped me up to 150mg and I took the first of that dose tonight. He also prescribed me trazodone for my insomnia that was most likely caused by the zoloft.
I've been averaging 3-4 hours a night these past few months and it's been pretty miserable. But I've never taken a sleep aid before and I'm a little scared.
My Dr put me on zoloft and 2mg xanax and zoloft 50 mg. I did not feel that the zoloft help me but the xanax has helped me sleep, but now im up to almost 8mg of xanax a day and tampered off the zoloft. Now i finally want to be drug free because i look back in my life and the happiest i ever remember me being is when i was on no medication at all, so all i need to do is wean off the very high dose i take of xanax. What my questionis is how to do it, how long it takes, and what to expect?
