Zoloft dosing for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft dosing for anxiety

445263 tn?1208805016 I have a question about Zoloft dosing. I have been prescribed a dose of 50mg. I have been taking half of that dose (25mg, of course) for about a month now. I've noticed my depression lift exponentially; still experience some anxiety and anx attacks, though nothing I can't cognitively deal with. I have always been scared of taking any medication that changes my mood, of course (anxiety), and therefore haven't taken any of the meds prescribed at their prescribed dose. I have Klonopin 0.
784382 tn?1376934640 I tolerated it pretty well too, a few initial (mild) side effects, slightly increased anxiety being one for which I took an occasional Ativan while I was waiting for the Zoloft to start working. Generally speaking, these meds take about 4-6 weeks to really start noticing improvements. Many people report a subtle change for the better after about 2-3 weeks, but the dramatic changes take a little longer. For some, it may take even a bit longer than 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn upped to 40 and it worked fine, but I gained so much weight that I asked to be taken off. I was put on zoloft 50 mgs. I was fine for 2 years on 50 mgs but then got another bout with anxiety. I was bumped up to 100 mgs and within 3 weeks, I was fine. Now six months after I was bumped up to 100 mgs. I have it again. The Dr. has bumped it up to 125 and if that doesn't work, 150mgs. My question is why is this happening. I have the everyday stresses I normally have.
Avatar f tn I've been taking a very low dose of Zoloft (25 mg) for a whole year now - prescribed for severe stomach knots and panic attacks, and other physical symptoms of anxiety. I've been diagnosed with panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. The low dose (25 mg) is the only only dose I've been able to tolerate all along - higher doses gave me over the top side effects - unbearable, made me feel worse!
Avatar f tn "Zoloft was a terrible drug for me, as was benzos." "For me" being the key words in that sentence.
Avatar f tn It's clear that the Xanax isn't working for her and she needs something to get her acute symptoms under control so that the therapy can begin to work, but I am far from certain that Zoloft is the right thing for that. She has always been an emotional person but never suffered anxiety disorders that I'm aware of prior to this.
1243620 tn?1274794297 I take Propanolol for a tremor and have for many years while going from Prozac to Zoloft, and Lexapro with no problems. It is prescribed for various reasons with anxiety being one. But it is short acting meaning it doesn't stay in your system for more than a few hours. Many who take it for anxiety are public speakers who need to calm down right before making a speech. If your anxiety is severe there may be better ones for you, but only your doctor will know.
Avatar m tn the doc put me on 50mg Zoloft i have been on it for about 8 days and its giving me insomnia. I took zoloft about 2 years ago and it did this briefly and then quit (hoping it will stop again). The doc thought about putting me on Cymbalta instead but i went with the Zoloft since i had taken it before and it was "okay"/ some positve help..
Avatar n tn They were the worst when I FIRST started the Zoloft, then they would increase for a few days after each dosage increase, but by the time I made it to 75mg, I handled the increases very well, with only a couple of days of feeling an increase in that jittery feeling, and it was much milder. Hang in there, it will get better. If the side effects become hard to tolerate, certainly talk to your doctor about what you can do, you have options.
Avatar f tn Been on zoloft for 10 years on and off. After I lost my mom suddenly 2 years ago I upped my dose to 100 mg. 2 months ago I had an drug reaction with an antibiotic I was prescribed. The ER doc told me to stop taking my zoloft. I did for 4 days (huge mistake). I started up again back on my 100 mg and of course had all the start up effects which have all gone except tightness uncomfortable feeling in my stomach especially in the mornings. I take my zoloft at night before bed.
470964 tn?1240249855 i take zoloft 100mg for anxiety/depression. i also take topamax for migraines. i started at 50 mg (25 mg am & pm) . yesterday my doc increased the topamax to 75 mg (50mg am & 25 pm). i was so focused on making sure i took the right amount of topamax that i can't remember if i took my zoloft or not. i counted my pills, but i'm still not sure if i took today's dose of zoloft or not.
Avatar f tn I've been taking a 25mg dose of Zoloft for 12 days now and don't think I've seen any improvement yet. Now after speaking with a counselor the other day she thinks my anxiety is stuck on high right now and I need something to bring it down before us talking would really help. She doesn't think they're much she can do for me at the moment given where my anxiety is. I couldn't even focus on what she was saying because my mind was racing.
Avatar m tn a couple days on the zoloft was a bust. Incredible anxiety, hge headache,tremmors..the whole 9 yards(sorry for the football reference, but hey,the game is on).Actually, even watching the game is getting me a little strung out. Have been told today that zoloft is active as a stimulant in most folks, and i sure believe it. Not gonna take it anymore....worst 2 days ever, and I over-used the benzos just to stop crawling the ceiling. Thanx again.....
1269044 tn?1393193503 and the initial side effects will start to improve around week two. BTW, Zoloft is THE most commonly Rx'ed AD for anxiety disorders, because it does have a pretty high success rate, and is easier to tolerate than some of the other ADs. Don't make any rash decisions without talking to your doctor. If you've suffered from anxiety for a while, this may be a wise choice for you, as the anxiety needs addressed. The meds themselves aren't the answer...
Avatar m tn Tryin zoloft worsened my anxiety and takin myself off of it was even worse but it sounds like its been workin for u. I think youre jst worried becuz u missed a dose.
Avatar n tn Buspar ISN'T a benzopdiazapene (which are addictive). Buspar is prescribed for anxiety and can be used for up to 2 years. I took it for about 9 months, it isn't as potent as benzos, I came off it with no withdrawl symptons. Zoloft doesn't have many of the side effects, or the withdrawl problems of Paxil. I'd start on a lower dose (20mg) and work up.
Avatar n tn has been great for 25 years now. My son suffers with depression with anxiety being at the top of the list. He has tried many different medications also. Cymbalta was the answer for him...it works better for the anxiety than anything he has tried. I'm not saying that these two drugs are the answer for you...but don't give up. I have never slept well my whole life...over the counter Tylenol PM works better than any RX I've tried.
Avatar n tn Clonipine (for the shakes and restless legs), benzos (for general anxiety and sleep) and anti-depressant meds for that post-withdrawal period. The new selective serotonine re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI's) have a much lower side effect profile, but usually require 2-3 weeks of dosing before becoming effective. I was prescribed Zoloft as an adjunct therapy for neuropathic pain. It was prescribed as a trail run to see if my shoulder pain was neuropathic.
Avatar m tn But it is prescribed for depression, not anxiety. Still he gave me a script for it and my insurance said no.... So, just living with the anxiety. I have decided to get a massage tomorrow. Add that to the cost of subox vs pills and other stuff---it is still cheaper. Try getting outside and as old a line as it sounds, get exercise. I work outside and even though it is very hot here in NM, I force myself to do work outside in the afternoon for an hour or so and the anxiety eases up.
Avatar f tn Maybe you need something that is better for long term help instead of just short term relief. For me I take Zoloft once a night and have for years. It has helped me a lot and like I said I have the Xanax but only for "as needed" cases which are few and far between.
Avatar m tn org/posts/Anxiety/always-feel-lightheaded-and-dizzy/show/514577 It sure sounds like anxiety IMO as well, and here's why....for one, you're young, and the likelihood of you having something very seriously wrong (like a brain tumor, etc) is slim, not to mention, you've been thoroughly evaluated by many different specialists, more than once. If there was something big and bad going on, one of the doctors would have most likely found something abnormal in the findings of your diagnostic tests.
784382 tn?1376934640 i had been going through those damn dizzy spells for months and wasting all my money on dr's (that i dont have) for them to tell me im perfectly healthy. Great! so why do i feel so ****** everyday??? this brings me to this panic disorder the therapist are telling me im having. i believe her. but shyt everyday i feel just constantly worried about another attack coming.....so im constantly lightheaded, sweaty palms, and racing thoughts.
Avatar n tn im 39 started having anxiety at 21 then had agraphobia for 4 years that passed but ive always has anxiety, i could control this up until last week, i was ill with the flu was sooooo dizzy so now i think im goin to pass out. My symptoms are cloudy vision, dizzyness, shakes very bad, sweaty everything, and just panic panic panic.
Avatar f tn I was not prescribed Prozac, I am on Cipramil, but it takes 2 weeks according to my doctor for the drug to start working and can make anxiety temporarily increase when you first start taking it. Try not to think about if it is working or not because that will also increase your anxiety as well. Are you having any councelling for your anxiety and deppression because it helps to share your fears with an empathetic listener.
Avatar m tn when i was really down and into anxiety i ask my dr for klonopin it was great , it got me back on my feet and i winged off of it. it is a long term med and it works fast and i had very little side affects in fact the only one i had was just tired for the first week but after that it was great. i only took .5 in am and .5 at night . dr told me to take 3 times a day 1mg but i knew that was to much and i didn't want to take that much. if i would of needed more i would took .
433485 tn?1321816990 I had a horrible episode that started right before the holidays of anxiety. I am on 80 mg of celexa, 100 mg of wellbutrin, 50 mg of lamicatal 50 mg of seraquel ( at night ) and 2 mg. of klonopin tid ( upped from .5 tid before episode , also the lamictal and seraquel were added and wellbutrin dropped from 300 mg a day to 100). My question is this: I started feeling better and my pdoc and I decided to drop the klonopin to 1 mg in the am, 1/2 mg. in the afternoon, and 1 mg. in the evening.
Avatar n tn It is possible I had some slight vitamin deficiencies just enhancing my problem...dunno, but it did WORK!! I am also on Lorazepam (Ativan) for the anxiety and panic and slight syncope I get. Ryan advised me to switch my beta-blocker to one that is not so cardiac-specific to take care of the rest of any problems I have left, yet I dunno if I need it or not. I am going to wait awhile, then judge from there, and let God be my guide.
922573 tn?1304102929 I have also suffered from anxiety for years and have difficulty sleeping. For that I take xanax, usually just at night to help me sleep. If I don't take it, I will lay there and worry all night so it really helps me and has helped me for years. I am prescribed to take it up to 3 times per day, but I don't like to take it during the day since it can make me sleepy. Lately, however, I have been experiencing anxiety every time I take the percocet.
Avatar n tn My bend would be to use a once a day beta blocker to make dosing more convenient for you. Atenolol is cheap and works well. If you don't tolerate atenolol, metoprolol twice a day is worth a shot. If the propranolol is working, I wouldn't change anything. In general I do not use benzodiazepines like xanax. They are habit forming and can lead to other problems.
Avatar m tn now I am on Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, and Seroquel for anxiety/depression/possible conversion disorder and while the physical symptoms shift and migrate and evolve and come and go, the intensity and disruption to my life is the same as before I was medicated and was very active.
