Zoloft for social anxiety disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for social anxiety disorder

Avatar n tn For someone that is seeking treatment for an anxiety disorder, what are the meaningful differences between Zoloft and Paxil? I know that they are both SRI's and have similar side-effects. I guess Zoloft stays in your system longer than Paxil. I have been on Zoloft before for several years off and on, usually between 50 and 100 mgs, but have stopped taking it for about 3 months. I have not suffered from any withdrawal symptoms.
2198057 tn?1338534805 My panic returned with a vengeance within 6 months. Zoloft is actually the most prescribed SSRI for anxiety disorders, specifically panic disorder, and it has a great success rate. You are always going to hear horror stories with any med. As with any med, people will have varying experiences. Your best bet is to go into this with an open mind and not any preconceived notions based on other people's stories. Allow yourself to have your OWN unique experience.
Avatar f tn Again, just my opinion. Zoloft is used not only for depression but anxiety too. Many people do very well on it. It can take awhile to build up in your system so don't get upset if you do not see results immediately. You may have some nausea and a little dizziness the first few days. Don't worry if you do because this is common with most of these meds. Then again, you may not have any start up side effects. We're here to listen and help you anyway we can.
Avatar n tn I'm 17 years old, and have been on zoloft since May 2006 for anxiety, a panic disorder [severe panic attacks] and social anxiety [which caused most of the panic attacks] I have not have a panic attack since October 2006, and decided recently, after much thought and talking to my doctor, to go off zoloft. Starting the first day of August, I took a half dose every day for ten days. Now I am taking a half dose every second day for twenty days, and then going off completely.
3060903 tn?1398568723 Group therapy for social anxiety disorder / social phobia Other cognitive-behavioral techniques for social anxiety disorder include role-playing and social skills training, often as part of a therapy group. Group therapy for social anxiety disorder uses acting, videotaping and observing, mock interviews, and other exercises to work on situations that make you anxious in the real world.
Avatar n tn I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Social Anxiety. Because Body Dysmorphic Disorder is not well known, I have not been able to recieve any help for my disorder. Did you ever hear of this disorder? Do you know of anyone who was treated for it? I will take any help or information I can get. I have been on Luvox, Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa and Zyprexa. Neither of these medications helped me, they actually made me worse.
Avatar n tn The only difference between my twin and me is the zoloft. Its too bad because the zoloft works well for my anxiety and panic but I will try to find a different medication now. I was on Celexa in the past and didn't notice any weight gain on that.
17568 tn?1424977159 I also have had migraine and chronic daily headaches for many years. Could there be a relationship between the headaches and the social anxiety disorder? I'm inclined to think so, myself. Currently, I am taking Prozac 20mg daily and seeing a psychologist. Can you give any insight on helping me to address my problem in the best way? From what I read, there is a very high success rate with treatment. Thank you very much from someone who wants to overcome this, but is afraid.
Avatar n tn It seems you may have Social phobia or what is now called Social Anxiety Disorder. Social Anxiety Disorder is characterized by a marked and persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations in which the person is exposed to unfamiliar people or to possible scrutiny by others and exposure to the situation may provoke anxiety. The person recognizes that the fear is excessive or unreasonable and avoids those situations. The good news is that this is a treatable disorder.
605458 tn?1539232408 She thinks I would be perfect for it, and it does sound like a very good opportunity for me, only my social anxiety has me panicked just thinking about it. Unfortunately, right now I can't take the antidepressants right now because of my bipolar disorder and I hate using medications like Xanax. Anyone know of any alternatives or tricks to help brush away the social anxiety so I can look at this opportunity realistically?
784382 tn?1376934640 I tolerated it pretty well too, a few initial (mild) side effects, slightly increased anxiety being one for which I took an occasional Ativan while I was waiting for the Zoloft to start working. Generally speaking, these meds take about 4-6 weeks to really start noticing improvements. Many people report a subtle change for the better after about 2-3 weeks, but the dramatic changes take a little longer. For some, it may take even a bit longer than 6 weeks.
Avatar m tn I took him to the Pediatrician and he was prescribed Zoloft 25mg once daily because he too thought he had Social Anxiety Disorder. He took the medicine 6 days and became alot more violent/ aggressive than normal, and his behavior was worst at school. I am very confused as to what to do about the medicine. Are Autism and Social Anxiety linked?? Should he be on this med or are there anymore "kid friendly" med's for this??
Avatar n tn Is there anything to do for this social anxiety and cure it for good so I can have my appitite, social life and my mind back!!!
Avatar n tn well i told my mom about this and she took me off zoloft and it kind of went a way, but i don't know if is cause by to much seretonin or just something new i have devolved from my social anxiety disorder.. ......i have had xanax and it did help better , but i hear Valium is more affective , long lasting, and less dangerous so i hope to get s subscription to that tomorrow when i go visit my counselor for the first time. because the edge and aftermath of my self conscience is unreal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 24 I have been diagnosed as having bipolar depression, severe anxiety and OCD. I'm taking 100mg of Zoloft (for about 8 years now) It was recently up to 200mg, but my Dr was going to change it but while weaning off them I got so depressed and started having suicidal thoughts and there was a episode where I started cutting again. I'm going to speak to him to see if I should go back up to 200mg because I 'm still not coping that well. I also take 5mg of Zyprexa daily.

Avatar f tn My daughter has been suffering with severe panic/anxiety disorder since she was about 7 years old. Over the years it has gotten worse. She has been going to a social worker for the past 4 years. They are working with congnative behavioral therapy and it has helped her tremendously. About 3 months ago her panic and anxiety seem to be gettting worse. We do not know of any cause for this. She landed in the hospital twice in one week recently due to the panic attack.
Avatar n tn Although it may be true, I am having a tough tough time believing that all these chronic physical symptoms are as a result of anxiety alone. If I am treated for anxiety, I am wondering if they will improve or if the physical symptoms will linger and if so for how long? Would love to here some experiences on this from the forum.
Avatar n tn I'm 16 and today my psychiatrist prescribed me Zoloft for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I haven't started taking it yet. The psych said I could take Tylenol for headaches, but didn't say what I could take for migranes. Have you gone back to the doctor to up the dosage? You should discuss it then. Hope I helped some.
Avatar n tn I thought I was having panic attacks, but after some web research I now realize that I have social anxiety disorder. I was taking Zoloft and Prozac for what my doctor diagnosed as depression, but now that I realize I have s.a.d. I don't want to go back on those medicines (I've been off for about 4 years). I gained about 50 lbs. from taking the med, and I haven't lost more than 15 lbs., even though I tried. Has anyone tried counseling vs. drugs?, any other suggestions on how to deal with this s.
Avatar f tn D.(Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and Social Phobia and panic attacks. I did the same thing, and it was a mistake.....I believe you should go back to the doctor and see what they say. It may be helpful to try taking the meds at a lower dose than before and/or trying a different medication.
127512 tn?1193745816 I was just wondering does anyone here get social security for their anxiety/panic attacks? I have suffered for many many years and can no longer work. I also have a heart murmur and miteral valve prolapse.
Avatar f tn There is no question you're living with untreated panic disorder and depression. My advice is take Klonopin for panic, and Zoloft for depression and anxiety. Eventually you MUST replace Klonopin with Valium. One caveat: Take no more than 200mg of Zoloft, so you need two tablets of 100mg Zoloft. And then add it in slowly, start with a tablet broken in half, work your way up to the two tablets of 100mg Zoloft, for example, and take it twice a day, breakfast and dinner.
4810971 tn?1359480360 My mother has depression, OCD, and social anxiety disorder, and lately it is getting worse. I am 15, and I have Bipolar disorder and OCD, so I get depressed a lot, too, but nothing like this. At night, she will sit on the couch with her head in her hands, and will stare at nothing for hours, no matter how much we try and talk to her, and we eventually give up. This happens every night, no matter what.
Avatar n tn maybe I've become good at hiding it from myself, and the Zoloft uncovered the true anxiety disorder? Second, I have been a worrier all my life. I tend to dwell on the things I worry about(although I don't worry about everything, just the things I attach to I worry excessively over) and that has been the big problem with this incident. I was happy and coping with my worries before the "Zoloft" reaction, and now it's difficult to deal with the anxiety without the Xanax.
190885 tn?1333029491 Although the starting dose for people with panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, or social anxiety disorder is typically 25 mg daily, healthcare providers often increase that dose to 50 mg daily.
1515545 tn?1291399364 I finally found a psychiatrist who actually listened to me unconditionally and he diagnosed me with social anxiety disorder and he prescribed Abilify in addition to my Wellbutrin but he decreased the dosage from 200mg to 150 mg and also I take klonapin when it's necessary and it's quick relief but I cannot drive after consuming it because it makes me sleepy I sure abilify will work quickly.
