Zoloft and generalized anxiety disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and generalized anxiety disorder

Avatar n tn When I used to get panic attacks in stores, and ran in the bathroom I used to tell my kids that I had diarrhea. I was afraid that my anxiety would rub off on my kids. They didn't know about my panic attacks until they went to high school. People with panic attacks are very prone when they feel "out of control" as in sitting in a dental chair, getting an MRI, flying in a plane, riding a train etc. Situations where somebody else is in control "when you can get out".
Avatar f tn So, I started researching it and have found that it is not generally used for someone with generalized anxiety but usually for those that have anxiety in certain situations. I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?
Avatar n tn He said that was really close to normal and put all of my symptoms under the Anxiety category and prescribed Zoloft. Since the symptoms of both conditions are so similar, I would like to know the differences. And would it be worth the trouble of getting a glocometer and testing my own sugar when I am actually having the symptoms of dizziness, shakiness or sleepiness? Is a glucose tolerance test in order here?
Avatar n tn It can help with depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Have you looked it up on the internet. It could give you some good advice. I know for me it helped with both depression and anxiety and since going off it I realize it also helped me with anger issues. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I did not start on 200 I started on 225 and I have been off and on it for years. I have generalized anxiety combined with post-pardom. I have clonopin but have not taken it. Do you know anything about abilify?

Avatar n tn I combine my Zoloft with Buspar, 15 mg. twice a day and occasionally a Xanax to sleep . I have generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. Talk with your doctor first if you want but I suggest you really lower your dosage. It is too much for your body and thats why you are so trembly and shaky. If you want to e-mail me let me know and I will give you my e-mail...
Avatar n tn I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and has been taking medication (zoloft 50 mg) for the past 2 years (after my son). I have it pretty under control, but in the last few days I have been experiencing a lot of anxiety, somatic symptoms (like lots of muscle tension, the shakes, etc.), but the worst part is insomnia. I cannot fall asleep and once I do (after several hours) I can only sleep for about 3 hours or so. I am exhausted and am starting to resent my pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I had a quick question between distinguishing pretty much from panic disorder, anxiety and a phobia. In class 1 year ago I had a so called panic attack, about 10 minutes of constant fast heartbeat, followed by offcourse hyperventillation, then it somehow slowed down and then I was extremely shaky afterwards, and i felt like vomitting all day.
Avatar n tn I'm 16 and today my psychiatrist prescribed me Zoloft for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I haven't started taking it yet. The psych said I could take Tylenol for headaches, but didn't say what I could take for migranes. Have you gone back to the doctor to up the dosage? You should discuss it then. Hope I helped some.
Avatar n tn There are other forms of anxiety, such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, in which people unreasonably and excessively worry. The person has a number of associated physical symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, muscle tension, etc. I would recommend that you contact a Mental Health Professional for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn D.(Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and Social Phobia and panic attacks. I did the same thing, and it was a mistake.....I believe you should go back to the doctor and see what they say. It may be helpful to try taking the meds at a lower dose than before and/or trying a different medication.
Avatar f tn Finally talked to my doctor about the anxiety and he wrote me a prescription for Zoloft, 25mg once a day, which I've taken for 13 days. He also referred me to a licensed professional counselor who said it sounds like I have generalized anxiety disorder. However, after my first session with her Thursday, she said it's apparent that my anxiety level is stuck on high currently and she thinks I need another medication short-term to bring the anxiety down.
Avatar f tn My 24 year old daughter has been on Zoloft for the last two years for generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks but has battled this since she was a teenager (she actually started Zoloft when she was 18 and took herself off of it when she was 20) - and has taken up to 150 mg/day of the Zoloft - but because of intolerance to this level due to side effects - she was lowered back to 50 mg/day -the level she is able to tolerate - after the first year and managed on this level for almost a year
Avatar m tn I started seeing a therapist, who diagnosed me with severe panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, and hypochondriasis. I was put on Paxil and that really saved me. It took my panic away completely. After a while, the panic attacks started again. At this time, I started talking to (my current girlfriend) who lived in Florida, and we talked about me moving down to Florida since my life at home was bad. Anxious and all, I finally made the move.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am newly diagnosed with OCD and an anxiety disorder (generalized, I think). I was prescribed Zoloft 50 mg about three weeks ago by a psychiatrist my therapist sent me to, but I have been too anxious to take it (worried about side effects freaking me out). I have recently become very anxious that I am possibly having a heart attack. Last Friday, my best friend called 911 and they hauled me off to the hospital.
Avatar n tn Although marketed as an antidepressant, is has also been shown to be effective in anxiety disorders (e.g. panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and social phobia). Ask your doctor about which of these is best for you. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn They took two more EKGs and some blood work and both came back great. Thats where they diagnosed me with generalized anxiety disorder. Went back to my doctor about two weeks after that, and she prescibed the zoloft and xantax. Took zoloft for a day and couldnt take it again. Now im on my third day of celexa. Im going in for a heart monitor on wednesday so im very relieved to get that checked out, but im so worried about my brain because I feel fake all the time and dizzy.
Avatar f tn I was on 50mg of Zoloft for the last 3 years (i think) for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). I have severe anxiety and sometimes panic attacks for any reason - not just one thing that triggers it. I stayed on it through the first two trimesters of my pregnancy. And I had the support of my OB and my GP. There are risks, but that is with anything. Like you said Tylenol has risks. My dr's considered 50mg a really low dose, so I know that 25mg would be considered low.

Avatar f tn I've taken Zoloft for Generalized Anxiety Disorder for almost 3 years. I quit cold-turkey exactly one week ago. I know this isn't advisable, but I've attempted to wean myself off the medication twice already--once last December, over a course of two weeks, and again last April over a course of 6 weeks.
398624 tn?1266273049 GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) lasts lifetime if not treated. klonopin is better than xanax. but dont get addicted to benzos.
Avatar n tn I have been on it 8 weeks now and feel great so now we are slowly weaning me off the klonopin and I guess I will just stay on the effexor and tenormin. He told me I had Generalized Anxiety Disorder and it goes hand in hand with Mitral Valve Prolapse. He said some people just have to stay on low dose meds because their nervous system is so sensitive. I had a very stressful year last year and I know that is what brought on the symptoms again.
Avatar n tn I also have GAD and have been taking Zoloft for over two years. It seems to help me. I think Zolof is for anxiety as well as pnic attacks.
3060903 tn?1398568723 Antidepressants – Antidepressants can be helpful when social anxiety disorder is severe and debilitating. Three specific antidepressants—Paxil, Effexor, and Zoloft—have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of social phobia. Benzodiazepines – Benzodiazepines are fast-acting anti-anxiety medications. However, they are sedating and addictive, so they are typically prescribed only when other medications for social phobia have not worked.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with OCD for about 5 years, and suffered with it most of my life. I was taking Zoloft for about 2 years, and felt wonderful, then I noticed a huge weight gain of 20 pounds and noticed that my hair was starting to recede. I quit the medication in November of 2007 and by mid January 2008, my weight returned to normal, and right now, my hair has grown back with the help of Rogaine.
Avatar n tn Everything I read about panic disorder, or panic attacks, anxiety, etc says that a panic attack comes on, peaks, and wanes. If that were true for me, I think I would be able to handle it.
