Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and urinary retention

1295419 tn?1276826472 I stopped the Zoloft and my urinary issues seemed to subside, so they were blamed on the med. I then went on Prozac and did well. However, during the year that I was on it, I kept getting asymptomatic UTI's. I would find out when I went to the doctor for something else. I had no symptoms. I went to a Urologist and it was found that I had a PVR of about 115 cc's. All other tests (blood work, ultrasound, pelvic exam) came back normal.
Avatar f tn By the time I got to 150 it had become unbearable and I believe I was suffering from intense urinary retention. I would be kept up all night, feeling strong discomfort in my bladder and an urge to go, I'd sit on the toilet and barely anything would come out, or nothing would come out at all, and when I'd go back to bed I wouldn't feel relieved. Due to this I quit the medication. The issues reduced greatly in severity, but were still present mildly even after 6 months of being off the med.
5856747 tn?1403352282 No mention of female inability to orgasm, no mention of male ejaculatory failure, no mention of sexual anhedonia or sexual anesthesia in both men and women and no mention of loss of libido or sex drive in both men and women. All the consumer of modern antidepressants is being told is that there maybe some poor sexual performance. This is meaningless, unfair and disingenuous. But unfortunately, it gets much worse.
Avatar f tn A neurogenic bladder can develop with either hesitancy, frequency, loss of bladder awareness, urinary retention, incontinence or the symptoms of UTI (urinary tract infection)." Quoted from When To Suspect Lyme Disease, by John D. Bleiweiss, M.D. http://cassia.org/essay.htm =========== There are a number of people with bladder problems on the Flash Discussion group at Lymenet dot org. For some of them, bladder problems were the only symptom they had of Lyme Disease.

Avatar n tn Common side effects of antihistamines (best known of these is Dimenhydrinate or Gravol) are sedation, dry mouth, urinary retention, and weight gain. • The Serotonin that is produced via the SSRI mechanism of the anti-depressants requires more 'serotonin' building blocks - these can come from sugars and simple carbohydrates. The extra requirements demanded from taking the drug may explain the increased sugar cravings that often comes with being on these medications.
Avatar f tn Lithium has been around so long and used so much that it has a long list of very low probability side effects, the majority of lithium patients suffer from increased thirst, fine motor tremors (mine are more pronounced under stress and when tired) and in some patients weight gain caused by water retention is a problem - the drug also needs careful titration and levels monitoring because the toxic level is not that high, however its hard to reach if you follow the instructions and watch what yo
Avatar n tn My heavy periods are almost non-existent. But I can't live on valium and my other choice is zoloft. I'm 50 and I just wanted help with perimenopause. Guess I'll go to plan B. Menopause can't be that far away - right ;-}? Good luck!

Avatar n tn For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.

Tramadol can cause physical and psychological dependence. The human body develops tolerance to the analgesic effects of Tramadol. That means, on regular use of Tramadol, your body gets used to it and you will need more of the drug to induce the same level of pain relief.

Avatar n tn It's as if my body is producing a euphoric feeling (that stupid foggy head feeling the docs dont understand) in order to deal with things in my life. I started seeing a shrink and it helps to talk about things. I am now taking Zoloft (50mg) everday and have Xanaz (1mg) as a back up. I would suggest to anyone suffering from this symptom to get on some meds just to take the edge off. It has helped me to get ahold of myself and would recommend it.

428506 tn?1296560999 Hi All, My neurologist has mentioned that anti-depressants might alleviate the (undiagnosed) symptoms that bother me the most. I have some questions and thoughts about pros and cons, and would be happy to hear what others think, or may have experience with. I've been through the standard tests, and I am told that there is no answer for WHY I get tingling/numbness/dull burns, etc, but that anti-depressants may help STOP these things.
Avatar f tn That is the only place my clothes are tight, otherwise too big. Nausea also started about 1-2 months ago and urinary retention several months ago. So I am a bit worse than I was a year ago with the symptoms. I also have a strong family history of cancers - my paternal aunt with breast cancer, my maternal grandmother and uncle with colon cancer, and my younger sister died when she was 2 of cancer (about 38 years ago).
Avatar n tn In fact my tilt table, SNIF test, and test for urinary retention (I knew that one wouldn't show anything!) were all normal. The only abnormal testing was the sudomotor/QSART test. Apparently I still have hypohidrosis on the left side of my body (residual I assume from the past Horner's). I wasn't even aware that I still sweat less on the left side, as the Horner's ended 14 years ago, but the test picked it up. I was very surprised. Now they know I wasn't imagining the Horner's.

Avatar n tn There may also be drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, increase in suicidal thoughts, nausea/vomiting, sexual dysfunction, and urinary retention. There are two common sexual side-effects: diminished interest in sex (libido) and difficulty reaching climax (anorgasmia), which are usually somewhat milder with the SNRIs in comparison to the SSRIs. Elevation of norepinephrine levels can sometimes cause anxiety, mildly elevated pulse, and elevated blood pressure.
Avatar f tn Do you have any problems with swallowing, your bladder (urge incontinence or urinary retention), heat intolerance (if you have lost any sweating function), slow or rapid pulse, orthostatic intolerance, etc.? Every single article I have read on autoimmune autonomic neuropathy (AAN) lists urinary retention (not urge incontinence-which I have) as a problem, but I was told at Mayo one could have either. And do your symptoms fluctuate as mine do?
Avatar n tn but I feel like I'm dying when I have a severe attack. I have been taking Zoloft for 2 yrs now...have no side effects, and the only time I have an attack now is if I'm in severe pain....or forget to take a tablet! I also have most of the symptoms described on this page...and many other problems. No wonder my body is reacting with anxiety attacks!!! I have found that the best thing to do is to keep pushing myself to do as much as possible with my life.

Avatar f tn I am taking 75mg. of topamax and also taking Zoloft and Verapamil for migraines. I am not loosing any weight. I am so frustrated because I feel that I'm the only one that's not losing. Does anyone think it's because of the other drugs I'm taking? Next week I go to 100mg.
Avatar n tn I feel as if I'm bloated and have water retention, but my next period is not before 15 days. So my advice is please check with your doctor. If you do, please let me know what s/he tells you. Thanks & good luck!
Avatar n tn Right before I had cervical fusion 6 months ago, I had a UTI and was treated with Cipro. A month ago, I developed urinary frequency and urgency and thought I had another UTI. They did a urinalysis and found I had a bunch of microscopic blood in my urine, but no infection. The urologist had me do a CT of the abdomen that was normal. A few weeks ago, I developed a funny buzzing feeling in my lower pelvis that came every few minutes. It wasn't painful but just very annoying.
Avatar f tn It started off as every now and then but for the last month it is all the time 24/7. It is really taking a toll on my life. It is so bad it wakes me up and prevents me from falling asleep. I have had thyroid, hormones, mri, ct scan and many other tests. The only test that came back questionable was my ANA, it is positive, speckled pattern. My RA factor was negative. I have no diagnosis as of yet. I do have Epstein Barr virus too.
Avatar n tn The hepatic flexure of the colon makes the turn right in the same area where the liver and the gallbladder are. could be buildup of stool and gas that stretches the colon and causes pain. Has the Dr mentioned this?
Avatar n tn I am 40 years old and have had a history of depression not severe - just hereditary. My doctor put me on Zoloft an antidepressent and the soreness of my breasts went away. Just thought I would add this to the forum hoping it might help someone out.
