Avatar n tn Okay, we're now about 5 days into learning that our daughter is diabetic. So really any info at this time is going to be greatly appreciated. Some of our most immediate concerns revolve around diet. We fully understand how to do the calculations we need, how to check labels, really most of the basics. But we are also trying to find resources that are a little more specific as to snacks that are no-carb, low-carb.

1533382 tn?1357962152 I'm 31weeks 3 days pregnant and last week I found out I have gestational diabetes. I've been on a 'carb counting' diet ever since and have to check my sugar levels 4 times a day keeping it in a certain range. I've noticed over my week of this diet that anything that's actually a full meal, be it mostly protein and no carbs or under my carb limits spikes my levels.

Avatar f tn On Monday I started a low-carb diet. On Tuesday I started to feel awful and tired. I did not eat a big breakfast that day due to running late for work. On Wednesday, I woke up with the same light-headed fatigued feeling. I broke my low carb diet and began eating carbs again. I was still being lightheaded and I had palpitations. I ate a snack of veggie straws before bed and woke up an hour later. I checked my blood sugar (I'm not diabetic, but my dad is) and it was 109. Today.
Avatar f tn I was told that if the fiber was 5 or higher you split it in half and deduct it from the number of varbs to give you the actual carb count. So 8 fiber would be 4 off the number of carbs.

Avatar f tn Generally they reccommend 180 carbs per day. 30 for breakfast and 45 for lunch and dinner. This allows for 3 15 carb snacks. There are several snacks or add on to meals you can have that don't cause a spike in blood sugar such a cottage cheese and several veggies.
Avatar f tn I had that with my first, I haven't been tested yet with my second. The specialist will help you figure out diet, but the biggest thing was to watch your carbohydrates. They are what converts into sugars. Eat small meals throughout the day instead of 3. Pasta, breads, ice cream, sodas, juices, anything like that will have a high carb count. Take a look at the nutritional information and see how much carbs are in each.
Avatar n tn I also am following a low carb diet, meaning 20 g of carbs per meal and 15 g for snacks also increasing my protein has helped. I eat about 120 g of protein a day.

Avatar n tn t get his numbers down. At home, I have him on a zero to low carb diet and his numbers are just high. Everything he eats runs up his numbers. He's going to the gym for about two hours doing cardio & weightlifting. He was doing fine prior to hospitalization and could eat as much sugar free to low suger <4 foods he wanted. He had no complications and led a normal life. What could be the problem? It's like his pancreas doesn't know what to do.
