Avatar f tn Hi, A lower calorie balanced diet is very effective for weight loss. A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
Avatar n tn "Ketosis is NOT a dangerous." Please reread or talk to a doctor - " During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure." "the two are different things" Not entirely. Ketoacidosis is an increase in fat metabolism because of a shortage of insulin, mostly associated with t1's. Ketosis is an elevated level of ketones.

He had no complications and led a normal life. What could be the problem? It's like his pancreas doesn't know what to do.

Avatar n tn The best reduction diet for a cat is a high protein, zero carb/zero grain ALL canned diet, Atkins type diet. Dry cat foods always contain some carbohydrates. Cats are obligate carnivores and do not require grains, though some vegetables are important for health. I think that it is best to give a multi-mineral supplement instead of calcium alone. One quarter of a human mineral supplement containing: calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and other minerals would be suitable.
Avatar f tn We don't know your diet -- you say low carb, but all fruits and vegetables are carbs, so did you cut those out too? Much of our energy comes from deep green foods. Protein foods can be high in tryptophan, so they can make you sleepy. That's why you need a balance of carbs and protein -- carbs give us quick energy. So again, what's your diet and do you exercise and do you sleep well? Have your iron and B12 levels been tested? Are you depressed? Lots of reasons to be tired.
