Zantac or nexium

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac or nexium

Avatar m tn Can you please tell me if you can take Nexium 40mg. and Zantac 75mg. together or on the same day. My GI doctor has me on Nexium 40mg. and my PCP wants me to take Zantac 75mg. at night before I go to bed. Is it safe, and can I take it with Xanax 1mg. I have GERDS and Barrett's Esophagus. And they both think it mjght be causing these little pinpoint pimples in my mouth, tongue, and throat.
Avatar m tn It might be co-incidence but since I started on the nexium I have been going to the toilet 3 to 4 times a day (number 2's) where usually it's once or maybe twice depending on what I eat. As usual, all opinions will be most appreciated.
99627 tn?1301274552 Like I said, it goes Zantac, Prilosec, Prevacid and then Nexium. I never had a problem with Zantac other than it tastes REALLY bad so if you can, go to Osco and get it flavored grape- we tried several flavors and the grape covered the aweful mint taste the best. My niece is also on Zantac right now with no problems.
88793 tn?1290230777 My gastro Dr prescribed Nexium 40mg twice a day before the gastroscopy. Plus Zantac 150mg before bed. After the gastroscopy, the burns started in my mouth and tongue. I called her but the lady at the receiption called me back and said increased the Nexium 2 tablets twice a day and take some Mucaine think liquid as well. If I increased, it is Nexium 80mg twice a day? Plus Zantac 150mg and Plus Mucaine? Am I listened wrong? Or anyone here with that dosage safe?

Avatar m tn I would suggest you go to one dose every other day for one week, then one dose every 3 days for a week, then one dose per week for 1 week. By this time you should be able to stop altogether.
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced any side effects on Nexium? I feel like it is making me more nasueas and queasy than Prevacid. I was taking 40 mg of Nexium daily and have just switched to 30 mg daily of Prevacid.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, the Prevacid didn't work so well and after much fanagaling I got back on Nexium. It took two weeks for Nexium to finally kick in and it was effective for about two weeks. Now I'm I have a constant pain radiating from my chest and what seems like the middle of my back (heartburn I guess). I've made an appointment with my specialist but the visit is two months away. Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Should I wait for two months and just deal with the discomfort?
Avatar n tn Yesterday however, I had a visit with my OBGYN who is completely against nexium, prilosec or any other drug except for zantac. I tried taking zantac, but I do not feel any relief whatsoever. I consulted pharmacists and other doctors who clearly state that it is safe to take nexium during pregnancy. I am sure I am not the only pregnant woman with this problem, can someone please advise as to whether nexium is safe to take during pregnancy and if you actually took it and your babies are healthy.
Avatar m tn Acid Reflux/Heartburn/GERD...all the same thing, or at least caused by the same thing. Zantac is what's known as an H2 Blocker and used to be a prescription med. It was introduced before Prevacid, Nexium, and the other PPI's. Definitely take it and see if it helps. Augment it with chewable Maalox or Tums if you really need to. And if Zantac doesn't work you could try Pepcid.
Avatar n tn Fortunately, they were benign, but my surgeon tells me they are almost assuredly the result of such long term use of PPIs. If your only option is chronic reflux or Nexium, by all means continue to use the Nexium. However, you're too young to be put at risk from such a long term problem, and you really need to do whatever you have to in order to get back to a GOOD doctor (sounds like your last one was a jerk).
213739 tn?1215489609 that showed severe esophagitis, an ulcer, lots of erosion 'Bad spots' as they called them, and an inflamed dueodenum. They immediately put him on Nexium and he's been on adult Nexium 20 mg three times per day for the past 21 months. He does not eat solids. He drinks Pediasure and will eat babyfood bananas but not consistently. At his 3 year check-up, I asked his Ped. if I could wean him off of the Nexium. She said not until he was eating a wide variety of solids.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried gas relievers of all brands and types including activated charcoal and it offers little or no relief. My doctor seems to not believe I get this as she just tells me that the nexium will cure me. My endoscopys revealed nothing aside from irritation of the stomach lining and I've been having these symptoms for about five years. As I said nexium helps with the acid but not the lead weight on those special days.

The acid in the stomach not only serves the purpose of digesting food and absorbing minerals, but helps to kill bacteria, yeast, and parasites that we might ingest. low protein is associated with many degenerative disorders, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, and arthritic disorders. The first step to improving health is to eat right! Refined foods like salt, sugar, flour, and oil.
Avatar n tn I tried all the overcounter anacids, zantac, carafat, and finally prilosec and Nexium. I have been on Nexium for 15 years (give or take). Started at 40mg, went to 80mg about 8 years ago and just recently (nov '08) was put on 120mg. I am concerned about the dosage and log term affects. I have been seeing a nutritionist for just over a year and she has me on many digestive supplements (I have ulcerative colitis as well), herbs, pro-biotics and vitamins (B-12, B-complex, zinc).
Avatar n tn At first my GP thought it was ulcers or gastritis and prescribed me with nexium. When I am not on nexium i have an attack once or twice or week, but it seems that when i am on nexium i do not have the attacks, although I do occasionally still feel nauseous or uncomfortable after eating.
Avatar n tn 7/23/03 i have gerd and a non-noticeable small hiatal hernia.i was taking zantac 150 for many years and now i am taking nexium. i seem to have gastric distress in abdomen, stomach and gi tract, almost daily, lately. was more or less under control a few weeks ago. i am 66 yrs. old. i felt my abd.distress may have been from taking zocor for cholesterol. tried other statins in the past and had similar response with abd.distress. much gas.mostly at distal end of esophagitis.
Avatar m tn No real answer - digestive and take Zantac. I take Tenormin for SVTs and Micardis for high blood pressure. This is always worse if I spend time bending over a lot or working at my desk etc. Anybody ? Any suggestions PLEASE - I've had it for years and I'm at my wits end. Kev.
Avatar n tn Thinking it was GERD from taking an increased dose of Fosamax, I consulted a GI doctor, had an endoscopy, which showed erythema in lower 1/3 of esophagus and mild gastritis. I've taken high doses of Priolosec, Nexium, Zantac, Aciphex, Carafate. Nothing makes the taste go away. Certain foods make the taste worse - chocolate, tomatoes. Checked with dentist - no periodontal problems causing the taste. I do have a chronic postnasal drip - should I see if my sinuses are causing the bad taste?
Avatar n tn I stopped that after 4 days bacause it made me sick to my stomach. The he had me on zantac (which also didn't work), now I' m on nexium twice a day. I've only been on that for a couple of days so I guess we'll see what happens. I went for an upper endoscopy yesterday and found that there was a lot of bile in my stomach. H e took biopsies of my stomach and esophagus so I'll find out the results in a week. The constant sore throat is really bothersome. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I think gaviscon is also pregnancy safe but talk to your doctor to be sure.
Avatar m tn For the first 4 years since I started noticing the acid reflux, I did nothing about it except take the occasional tums or alkazeltzers as i thought that it wasn't that serious I didn't even mentioned it to my parents. When I was in freshman year college around 19 years old is when I started to have more and more acid reflux and my eating habits were very bad too as well as a lot of college drinking.
Avatar m tn I was put on zantac 150, nexium, malox chewables. nexium is prescription and you can get prilosec which is the same thing and is OTC. The phentergan will help with the nausea. I remember after a month of detox I was eating anything in sight. I was eating so much, I would throw up b/c my stomach was packed full. It went away after 2 weeks and I had gained 15 lbs and then lost it ...thank god. It will go away, once you are off all the pain medicine.
Avatar n tn Gave me a cocktail for GI and told to take Zantac. had acid relux for years, but only about 3 or 4 times a year. could eat anything. Came home and several days after, I passed small pea like things in my stool. I had not eaten peas in months. felt fine after this. A couple of months later, I developed recurrent chest pains, severe belching. went to doctor, they did endoscope and found very mild esophagitis and said I had Gerd. Prescribed Nexium for 3 months.
Avatar n tn While on it I can eat anything and not get any indigestion or heart burn or reflux in my throat. However, occasionally I would still get the feeling of something in my throat at the base of it. Well, it would usually go away and I would forget about it. However, about three weeks ago this feeling came back and for the last few weeks I have also had chest pains associated with it. The feeling in my throat is like someone is pushing in on the base of my throat under my adam's apple.
910435 tn?1296752210 Start taking Nexium again and QUIT stopping it when feeling good! Reminder to self: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) !!
Avatar n tn I too have been suffering for about 17 years for what I thought and still am thinking is acid reflux. I did fine for many years taking zantac and or prilosec. I lost 55 lbs and everything went away even though I stayed on zantac because I could feel some shortness of breath if I didn't take it. I gained about 30 lbs back and this past summer all the meds stopped working. My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest.
