Xalatan and glaucoma

Common Questions and Answers about Xalatan and glaucoma

xalatan

Avatar n tn To be very frank, I dont really know the difference between chronic angle closure and open angle glaucoma. I mean i have read the literature online and stuff. But is there a difference in the implications or symptoms of both types? I dont really know what 's the major distinction between both of them. As in is CACG more severe in its symptoms or more difficult to treat and open angle glaucoma is asymptomatic?
Avatar n tn I personally often stop the xalatan for a few months after surgery and use another glaucoma drop instead but many doctors don't do that. Basically, if your surgeon is experienced and excellent, the chances of success are very, very high.
Avatar m tn ve been diagnosed at 30 years old and had already vision loss and optic nerve damage... Is juvenille glaucoma detected yearlier that at 30 ? If I may, I would like to ask another question... My doctor told me that SLT is now a primary treatment against Glaucoma, that is why he suggested me to switch treatments... It sounds like you would first try other options ? Does this mean SLT could be potentially risky for my age ?
Avatar n tn side effects because the drug is running through your body (rather than staying mostly in the eye). Xalatan, and the others that are similar lower IOP more than other drug classes...you need to ask what your IOP is and see that it stays in the healthy range, since glaucoma damage can be permanent. However...you may end up with eyelashes like Brooke Shields.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with glaucoma four years ago and was immediately put on Xalatan once a day both eyes. Two years later was taken off Xalatan and put on Cosopt & Alphagan, twice a day, Lumigan once a day, both eyes. For the past two years my diopter went from -4.00 both eyes, to -9.50 left eye, -7.00 right eye, as of today, in steady progression. I can already tell I'm probably not seeing 20/40 presently and need stronger contacts.
Avatar m tn l have been taking Xalatan for a year and there has'nt been any side effects except my eyes feeling a bit dry l have developed some floaters but my doctor says it most likley has nothing to do with the xalatan , but the past few weeks it has been starting to sting or feel a bit , sometimes l put in two drops at a time instead of one , could putting too much in cause this soreness, is there an eye drop such as a lubricant eye drop l could take that relieves the soreness.
Avatar m tn How long would you say it would take pressure in eye to increase from normal to 50. I am on timoptol and xalatan at moment.
Avatar n tn Over the last 3-4 weeks I have eye pain in one of the eyes, consistent dull ache. I visited my Optho and had eye dilated and checked and everything looks fine. He changed the drops to Travatan. But the pain is still present after using travatan for like 2 weeks. What else can be the cause? What else should I try to find out?
Avatar m tn I MISSED A COUPLE DOSES OF COSOPT AND XALATAN THE PAST MONTH SHOULD I JUST GO ON WITH MY REGULAR SCHEDULE/
17644146 tn?1458782868 Does anyone take Xalatan? I picked up my new bottle of Xalatan today and I noticed the pharmacist didn't take it from the refrigerator, but took it off the shelf where she keeps all her prescriptions. I asked her if she shouldn't have had it in the refrigerator since yesterday when I called in the refill. She said one day out of the refrigerator would not harm the unopened Xalatan. When I got home I put it in my fridge.
Avatar m tn The most common cause would be that you have a refractive error and need glasses for the best vision and to try and make the vision equal or near equal in both eyes. At 46 they would need to be a lineless bifocal type to work far, near and intermediate. Cataracts are not common at your age and glaucoma mainly affects peripheral vision not central.
Avatar f tn Thank you Dr MJK, I tried eliminating Trusopt and using Xalatan only and in the AM rather than PM. Did this for 2 weeks. Odd thing about this rash is it is NOT constant and seems to respond to treatment but when treatment stops, rash returns. I am going to keep a journal beginning today to see if I am doing something to create this. Also going for a 3rd opinion (have never done this) to Alexei Moraczewski, MD who I located thru this the link provided by medhelp.
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up visit with the retinal specialist concerning the retinal swelling and double vision in my right eye. As reported earlier, I have bilateral open-angle glaucoma and cataracts, the cataract in the right eye having been removed in 2005 at which time the lens fell into the back of the eye, followed by vitrectomy in 2006 and an intraocular implant in 2007. I now have retinal swelling which is being treated with Prednisolone and Nevanac, 3X daily, right eye.
Avatar m tn mjk i have had a laser iridoplasty(have plateau iris) however still have episodes of mild blurriness eye discofort and slight headaches occasionaly and still on xalatan. optholomogist have said the Laser surgery has worked and angles are no longer as narrow and pressure has dropped to 10..Does this sort of laser stop an Acute angle atack?.
Avatar n tn If Glaucoma is caught very early, and the pressure (before treatment) is 18-19, is hoping for it to progress so slowly as to not lose visual function an unreasonable expectation? The specifics are: 42 year old male, IOP (both eyes) 18-19 (treatment with Xalatan just begun). No field loss in left eye, very minor field loss in right eye.
Avatar m tn thanks yes upon your earlier advice l told my sister to get checked and she was normal . l was taking azarga and xalatan but they only got my pressure down to 18 and 20 and he said l need to get to 15 because the nerves are getting worse so l need SLT, l dont think Vyzulta and Rhopressa are avialable here in AUstralia. if l have a C/D ratio of .4 l think .4 still means early moderate glacuoma? is that correct.
Avatar f tn it freaked me out and i started to touch my eye, i push it and poke it and realised i can get my finger really far in my eye it feels like its behind it but i dont know if it is.... its de sensitised now according to the doc cos i keep touching it but the sensitivity will come back soon when i stop this habit but unfortunatly my worry and anxiety is fueling my habit and vice versa. it scares me that i might be able to pull my eye out...
Avatar m tn You are on 3 very strong glaucoma medicines and your IOP is 39 then likely you need to go on to Gel stent or surgical procedure. Especially if you have moderate or severe damage already.
Avatar m tn perhaps you have ocular hypertension and not glaucoma, and the drop is being used to decrease the risk of glaucoma developing. Other tests which should be done, if they were not performed yet, are gonioscopy to check the angle of the eye, and pachymetry to check the corneal thickness.
Avatar m tn Ten years is a long time. Going in your favor you are young and the optic nerve is much stronger than say in our 80's, you don't apparently have a strong family HX of glaucoma and many young people are resistent to IOPs that would damage a much older person.
Avatar m tn did a bunch of tests on my eyes. The O. ruled out glaucoma and retina detach. The O. said my ICL (phakic IOL) is out of position, but O. wasnt sure if out of position would cause vision loss. O. then sent me for MRI. O. said nothing abnormal in the MRI report. O. wants me to come back in 2 weeks to repeat a test. O. advised me to start thinking about having the ICL removed. Can a out of position ICL cause a dark spot in corner of vision? It is Visian ICL.
Avatar n tn I have pseudo-exfoliation in left eye. Started out on xalatan, then switched over to Lumigan when I was Glaucoma Suspect with ocular pressure 21-30. Under control low 20's on Lumigan, optic nerve healthy, no visual fields defects on test 5 months ago. However, last visit hemorrhage on optic nerve found and added Alpgagan P to Lumigan, did not do a thing after 6 weeks, pressure 24 today. Dr.
Avatar n tn Your increase of pressure is consistent with steroid glaucoma and that should be noted to all future physcians taking care of you. The medicines you took by mouth should not have caused this.
Avatar f tn I too have had high eye pressure from some 12 years ago when I was 40 years old... and have had laser surgery and been on timolol etc etc etc ... and I truly sympathise with your partner. Having glaucoma at such a young age is very unusual ... its an old persons's disease or there may be a history in the family. I personally believe it was a "septic" front tooth that triggerred my condition! ... After having it removed the eye pressures subsided! ...
Avatar f tn org The glaucoma drops Xalatan, Lumigan and Travitan Z grown eyelashes in about 70% of the people that use them. The FDA has just approved a formulation of lumigan called Latisse for use to grow eyelashes.
