176495 tn?1301280412 I'm a type 2 diabetic, 58 years old diagnosed 2.5 years ago. For quite a while I did very good job eating right but for the last year or so life has been very hectic and stressful and my eating habits have really taken a beating..my blood sugar usually averages around 130, my last A1C was 6.9 and I've gained back most of the weight (30lbs) that I lost.. can anyone recommend a good "every day" cookbook...not one where the meals look like something that belong an art museum..
Avatar n tn You can also buy a renal cookbook. They are really informative, and can teach you how to get the proper nutrition for a person with kidney disease. I learned a lot from mine. I got one from Amazon.com. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn t do it regularly, try to at least go for a jog around your block once or twice a week or do workout videos (like the well-known P90X videos) that are quick to whip you into shape at home. As for meal plans, combining complex carbs and protein is your best bet for gaining muscle.

Avatar m tn Hi, whey protein is just dried milk without the calcium caseinate, lactose, and fat... plain and simple. It's best to use whey protein only for pre-and-post workout nutrition. You're really better off getting the rest of your protein from real food. Drink it 30-45 minutes before working out. For post-workout nutrition it gets a little trickier because the mixture depends on your goals. The post-workout shake is made from skim milk, whey protein.

Back when I was 14-17 I would join my father in the gym, but his trainer gave me different things to do to just be fit and toned. I do have some equipment at my house and my husband works crazy hours so we can't just go to a gym. Plus, I would like to look semi-decent to be able to even show up at a gym. Avatar f tn Eat controlled amounts of carbs like small amounts of potatoes, but try even to change potatoes often to root vegetables with more nutrition, such as parsnips, beets, turnips. Instead of rice, which has little nutrition, try making quinoa. Whatever food you tend to binge on is probably a food your body turns straight to fat. Change is good. Colorful foods are good. Absolutely no soda, especially not diet. When you crave sweet, don't use artificial sweetners; try agave nectar.

Avatar n tn OK, I made the rich butternut squash soup from the LID cookbook. It contains chicken stock and then just the butternut squash, herbs, etc..... Is that to be counted toward my meat intake since it's chicken in the stock, or can i have unlimited of that since it's mostly a veggie? what do you think? what portion of rice (i made a big batch of basmati) would you eat if any ...to count as a grain? 1/2 cup?

I am a nursing student, who has learned a lot about nutrition and things, and it doesnt seem healthy to me. I have access to many journal databases online, and ahve tried to look up many of the things he has tried, such as GH inhancers and amino acids, trying to find out if it's safe and works, or if it is a waste of money. Avatar f tn I keep noticing this pain when I workout. It's in the same place. Under my shoulder blades, on my right-hand side. I don't know why just that side hurts everytime I workout. It feels like what a huge bruise would feel like, only on the inside of my body. I had to stop doing this ab workout because the pain takes my breath away. What do you do when you have pain like that? Do you push through the workout? Do you listen to your body telling you something isn't right?
Avatar n tn You need to be on the Low Iodine Diet. If you go to thyca.org and there is the low iodine cookbook pdf on the left hand side. Remember, it's not necessarily a no salt diet. You can have salt, just the non-iodized kind. And no sea salt. I was told to go on it a week before my treatment, which ended up being almost two weeks, because my treatment dose was given late in the week on the second week. I then had to stay on it for 48 hours afterwards. Hope that helps!
