Avatar n tn My boyfriend is into weight-lifting, and is constantly trying new things to gain muscle, maintain muscle, whatever. I am a nursing student, who has learned a lot about nutrition and things, and it doesnt seem healthy to me. I have access to many journal databases online, and ahve tried to look up many of the things he has tried, such as GH inhancers and amino acids, trying to find out if it's safe and works, or if it is a waste of money. Today he bought something called NO Shotgun.
Avatar m tn t do it regularly, try to at least go for a jog around your block once or twice a week or do workout videos (like the well-known P90X videos) that are quick to whip you into shape at home. As for meal plans, combining complex carbs and protein is your best bet for gaining muscle.
Avatar f tn It has lots of sugar, again, pro-inflammatory, both natural and added, which might be good before doing a long aerobic workout but not after. There are so many better sources of protein and nutrition; stay away from fads promoted by the dairy industry (let's see, how many can I recall that proved harmful?
Avatar f tn Resistance training, running and any other strenuous exercise deplete glycogen in the muscles. Recovery sports drinks are superior to water because the body needs more than just water after exercise to replenish energy stores. During recovery, the body is busy removing lactic acid and replacing depleted glycogen supply.
Avatar m tn Hi, whey protein is just dried milk without the calcium caseinate, lactose, and fat... plain and simple. It's best to use whey protein only for pre-and-post workout nutrition. You're really better off getting the rest of your protein from real food. Drink it 30-45 minutes before working out. For post-workout nutrition it gets a little trickier because the mixture depends on your goals. The post-workout shake is made from skim milk, whey protein.
Avatar f tn I really feel motivated to exercise and workout the muscles that haven't been used in probably 8 years. lol! Back when I was 14-17 I would join my father in the gym, but his trainer gave me different things to do to just be fit and toned. I do have some equipment at my house and my husband works crazy hours so we can't just go to a gym. Plus, I would like to look semi-decent to be able to even show up at a gym. (Yea, I've let myself go that bad.
Avatar f tn There is no gain without pain but the burn I have in my abs and thighs after working out is really making every workout more trying than the last. Then when I go to work my performance is down. Help!
Avatar m tn The muscle building ideal is 25 to 40 grams of protein, half before and half after your workout. Chicken, Turkey, or Tuna (3 oz) 14-22 grams protein 66-100 calories Wrap one of these standbys in a piece of bread. Four slices of chicken or turkey provide 14 grams of protein, while half a can of tuna has nearly 22 grams. Eggs (three) 19 grams protein 232 calories Hard-boiled eggs are most convenient, but it's also easy to scramble a few in the a.m.
Avatar f tn Eat controlled amounts of carbs like small amounts of potatoes, but try even to change potatoes often to root vegetables with more nutrition, such as parsnips, beets, turnips. Instead of rice, which has little nutrition, try making quinoa. Whatever food you tend to binge on is probably a food your body turns straight to fat. Change is good. Colorful foods are good. Absolutely no soda, especially not diet. When you crave sweet, don't use artificial sweetners; try agave nectar.
Avatar n tn Better nutrition and hydration before and after a workout. As you run, most of your body is focused on the muscles that are being used and are in immediate need of fuel, and this does not include the stomach. The blood flow to your stomach and digestive system is reduced to a low level, and digestion of food/fuel is slowed a lot.
193609 tn?1292180293 t sleep much so the workout only consisted of running a mile and doing my workout for the 100 push up challenge. But at least I was able to workout....ugh, it is just going to be a long hard day.
Avatar m tn I have prayed, I have did meditation and all sorts of things. I finally gave up on nutrition and organics after spending $125/hr on a natural pathic doctor. I have seen a dermatologist and took a topical and antibitoics when all else failed. I continued eating healthy and dieting but, here I am again, with this ****. As of now, I got cystic acne 2 spots, left and right side near my ear and a spot on my face that is a pimple. For christ sake, I hope it doesn't scar.
Avatar f tn Usually, women don’t completely meet what their bodies need—food and exercise to reduce stress and feel better. Diet, nutrition, and workout are some of the common lifestyle changes that can help women restore hormone balance.

The enzymes needed to convert the food you eat into energy for resistance training increase. Your muscle cells are also able to store more energy from the foods you eat. Though your fat cells are shrinking, the increase in lean muscle tissue weight is off-setting the weight you lost from fat.
Avatar f tn Hi! I notice you're also part of the Trying to Conceive community. Did your doctor also run tests for any thyroid disease? This can also have an effect on fertility. PCOS is not the cause of being overweight, it's the other way around. Don't use PCOS as an excuse to not to lose weight. Stepping off soap box now.... Losing weight is a great way to treat PCOS, along with regular exercise, and maybe a medication (like metformin).
Avatar f tn Getting through that frame of mind is really difficult. You could try keeping a workout journal or putting up post its to remind you of the buzz you get after exercise or the achievements you've made. Likewise you can make plans to exercise with a friend at least once a week, even just a walk. The socialising will boost your mood as well as the exercise and it's a good way to prevent any unmotivated changes in plans because of the expectation to meet up.

Use compound functional exercises for your strength-training workouts. These compound exercises maximize muscle activation for quick performance gains.
Avatar n tn If we could get a good cross-spectrum of people in a survey, I could even try to petition to post the findings in a scientific journal where they might be noticed. I have a Master's degree in biochemistry and experience in testing, so I have been testing on myself to see what foods fill me up and adding exercises to look for a result. Especially if there are other gallbladder removal victims who can test nutrition changes, we might be able to gain acceptable evidence.
Avatar f tn How much exercise are you doing and what kind. What's your nutrition plan like, what are you eating and how many calories are you consuming on the average? I can help but more information would be helpful.
Avatar f tn I keep noticing this pain when I workout. It's in the same place. Under my shoulder blades, on my right-hand side. I don't know why just that side hurts everytime I workout. It feels like what a huge bruise would feel like, only on the inside of my body. I had to stop doing this ab workout because the pain takes my breath away. What do you do when you have pain like that? Do you push through the workout? Do you listen to your body telling you something isn't right?
