Why was vioxx taken off the market

Common Questions and Answers about Why was vioxx taken off the market

vioxx

Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar n tn does sweat contain hiv virus,i was in a market,it was noon, suddenly a man hit me up ,his sweat came on my hand, any risk.........
Avatar m tn COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.

Avatar f tn SO, tell me - what did your Doctors tell you was O.K. to do for the headaches. I am on the Incivek program and just on the 2nd day...yikes! Thanks heppers!
Avatar f tn It was the FDA that stepped in to see if the drug was safe and was instrumental in getting better study results and getting the drug off the market. It was the FDA that issued a Warning Letter to the manufacturer of Vioxx, telling the company to stop certain marketing practices due to "false, lacking in fair balance, or otherwise misleading" claims which violated the Federal Food, Drugs and Cosmetic Act. That is the role of the FDA.
Avatar n tn Vioxx was withdrawn from the market in 2004 due to heart/stroke issues. I doubt you can even get it, but if for some reason it id given to you, ask for something different. I know a couple of other people who have gout with no rise in uric acid. So yes, it probably is best to just go ahead and get treated if your doctor agrees. I assume you've probably already been to the doctor by now. Hope it's cleared up. That pain can be brutal!

It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs. If NSAIDs are medically required for the treatment of another medical disorder, a reduced dose should be used for a limited period of time and only by people with stable liver disease.

Avatar f tn I am BP1, but have hit clinical depression. I think they put me on a AD because of this and I'm pregnant and they don't want to put me on too high of a dose of Lamictal. Lamictal, I've been on it on and off for a couple yrs. It never really helped much with depression for me. So maybe all I needed all along was a AD. I've taken as high of a dose as 400mg of lamictal when not pregnant. It helps with the mania for short periods of time, but then I always have to up my dose.
Avatar n tn Paxil should be taken off the market no question!!! I don't agree with the answer you got from the doctor at all. I weened off paxil over a years time and am now on day 49 paxil free. Not realizing the strange things that have happened to me over the past year was from the paxil withdrawal I didn't really investigate on line until I completely stopped on January 21, 2008 and by February 12, 2008 the proverbial s## hit the fan.
Avatar f tn I am glad I am off the thyroid meds and feel so much better but why did he take me off and does it sound like I will need to go back on. By the way he is running a blood test on me next week.
Avatar f tn I waited 8 months before making an appointment with a Rheumatologist and then another 3 months to see the Rheumatologist and be tested. So it was 11 months after end of treatment that I was tested for Autoimmune Disorders. I originally made the appt. because I had joint pain and skin problems that did not go away after 8 months post end of treatment. I had the joint problems before treatment and had hoped they would go away with treatment. I am not saying you should wait.
Avatar f tn Your breast cancer was a grade 1, right breast, hormone sensitive and apparently a lymph node involvement, my cancer was the same but no lymph node involvement. I was wondering why you had your ovaries removed, was there a possible complication or any danger in the near future? It would be very rare as a Grade 1 BC is so small that it takes many years to grow to grade 1 and would take many more years to grow another bit.
Avatar n tn Would you believe that ovulex is no longer availble believe the manufactorer went out of business. The owner of the company went to jail for several things. I don't think any of the frauds were about ovulex I have reviewed all the ingredients of fertility blend and fertilaid, and there is really not a lot of herbs in them like there was in ovulex. These other fertility products do contain vitex, and the rest is really vitamins and L arginine. I have taken vitamins all my adult life.
Avatar m tn It is not true that they have been taken off the market. Don't believe everything you hear. If you are talking about the recall of certain lots of Tylenol PM gel caps, that recall was over a year ago. If the meds were purchased at a retail outlet those lots would have been removed from the shelves. If I might ask, what does this have to do with hepatitis c?
Avatar f tn Thank you for the answer, as I know the people who make opanas made a mistake by putting the ingredients in excedrin(miss spelled) so they have stopped making them until everyone is found or taken off the shelves and what I was told by my Dr that it should be around June or July before they can start making them again so yes I am freaking out a little because for once I felt that maybe i would have my life back...lol I'm no spring chicken at 57.
Avatar f tn As much as I hate to say this, Tramadol, when used correctly & as prescribed, is a very effective medication. Just because some of us on here have been addicted to it, and had horrible experiences with it, it doesn't mean that it should be taken off the market. Maybe educating doctors a bit more, regarding the addictive nature of the medication is the answer, I don't know, but just having it taken off the market will not work.
Avatar f tn I figure the kinks are worked out of it. i was on vioxx when it was pulled off the market and they were going to put me on Zelnorm and that got pulled. Just more comfortable with the oldies but goodies.
1155261 tn?1266686517 I thought I was the only one sneezing my head off! I would wake up in the middle of the night sneezing lol.
Avatar n tn there are a lot of people that pay big bucks to getoff methadone in a softer ez way ...I wish I new one as I have said many times b/4 its not so much the withdrawal that makes methadone so hard to get off of but the post withdrawal....this is not an ez drug to break free from you can use short acting opiates to get past the initial withdrawal but its the next few months that they will not help with.....
1689024 tn?1308326866 PS-- It may be difficult to find L-trytophan in some areas as a few years back someone released compromised product causing some to pull ALL of it off the market. That is in part why I suggest that you ask a pharmacist for a quality brand or if he can get it for you. It should be relatively inexpensive in most cases. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn zelnorm has been taken off the market in 2007.
Avatar n tn Dear doctors- finnaly got the courage to ask so here goes.... 3 months ago or so I donated blood in one of the blood mobiles. Had kind of a wierd experience. The nurse missed my vein, poked around for bit and then she took off her glove and finally go the needle in. I actually didn't see the needle go in since I looked away, but saw her take off the glove. I do not know why she took off her glove. Anyway, a month after that, I came down with the flu and felt horrible.
