Why is the elisa test so sensitive

Common Questions and Answers about Why is the elisa test so sensitive

elisa-test

Avatar m tn The 4th generation test is consider conclusive at 4th week as the test look for p24 ag/ab The 3rd generation test are very sensitive and can be conclusive at 8 weeks marks but its still argued among different sources and consider 12 weeks test as conclusive For normal Anit-hiv test the result are conclusive at 12 weeks as the test look for antibodies . Any test at 12 weeks or three 3 month is consider conclusive ...
Avatar m tn I see. Thanks. What do you mean by anaylizer ? I thought both rapid and non-rapid tests use the same procedure to detect anti-bhttp://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV-Prevention/Which-test-and-why-/show/930726?personal_page_id=454349&post_id=post_4381435#ody. I am asking this question because I want to know if there is any advantage to go for more time & money consuming blood test than the rapid tests. This is the motivation behind this question. thanks.
Avatar m tn The results: -ve.(CMIA) I was a little worried and wanted to ask which method is more accurate? This discussion is related to HCV Positive or Negative.
Avatar m tn You were protected until the condom failed. High or Low, a risk is a risk. If you test after 4 weeks the antigen part of the duo test would not be conclusive. As with any HIV test the only conclusive test is one taken 3 months post exposure. DUO tests cannot detect HIV 2 any earlier than a straight antibody test.
Avatar m tn Could the slightly longer window period of the WB over the ELISA be why the 3 month window period remains despite shorter Ab detection times in ELISAs? After all they don't diagnose from ELISA alone.
Avatar m tn The problem is that in Brazil the lab will ask for a second test imediately after a 1st test only if the 1st is positive. If the 1st is indeterminate they tell the person have to wait 30 days and repeat... In this case, they asked for a second test imediately...
Avatar f tn I believe the one im questioning is the oraquick and bloodstick one. Also i understand why the rapid tests are great for convenience, are they as reliable as the ELISA or Western Blot?
Avatar f tn I was told the dna pcr test is pretty conclusive after 28 days. If the dna pcr test is so unreliable, why is it used for testing for blood donors in my area to help shorten the window period? Thanks for any responses.
Avatar m tn i would like to get an opinion from you about that- is it true about the elisa test? doesnt the combo includes also elisa (at least thats what i thought)? is the elisa more sensitive in detecting antibody than the combo? thank you very much and best regards, Foster.
Avatar f tn Is this correct? If so, why would the elisa be the best to do first then? Also, if the PCR test looks for the hiv virus itself, why is this test not prove someone has hiv before antibodies show up?
Avatar n tn Why is my skin so sensitive? I am always itchy, I get random hives all over the place, I get inflamed welts on my skin (mostly on the face) if exposed to the cold for more than 5 minutes, and I also get super itchy hives when I sweat. I notice it mostly on my chest, neck and face. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn 2 and will be 99% accurate. 3 Months is the official guideline for a conclusive test and 6 Months is outdated.
Avatar m tn I understand it, but it bothers me that the first generation ELISA tests are not as sensitive as the third test generation.
Avatar n tn t expect to get tested). Can alcohol mess up the results of the Elisa test? Can alcohol lower the antibody count so that the results are a false negative? I do not drink on an ongoing basis, but occasionally have a glass of wine with dinner. I may have had a full glass of wine the night before the test. Just don't recall.
Avatar m tn May I know the difference? Why not take the Western Blot immediately instead going thru the Elisa first? Dont you think it's just spending twice for the same test if the Western Blot is always the confirmatory test?
Avatar m tn 1)Is ELISA 4th gen more sensitive to antibodies than ELISA 3th gen? (without including antigen p24) 2) it'interesting ,what do you think -when medicine will learn completely defeate HIV ?
Avatar n tn What is the difference in the Oralswab rapid test and unigold rapid finger prick test? Are they both just as accurate and sensitive? Is one better or more reliable than the other? Is it just better to test with ELISA test or is there a difference?
Avatar n tn If it is used to measure the viral burden, then the accuracy of detection is very high, so it can detect extremely small amounts of virus in the blood. Why then not use it for conclusive results? The conclusive timeframe for ELISA is 3 months, but before you seroconvert, the virus spreads quickly in your blood, so you are supposed to have large number of infected cells, so PCR should detect that easily!!?!?! Right!?!?!?
Avatar n tn "Because it is less sensitive than a blood test, positive results must be confirmed by a traditional blood sample (ELISA plus WB)". This doesn't make intuitive sense, since it is less sensitive than traditional blood tests. Intuitively, if the urine test comes up positive, then an ELISA or a rapid test would also be positive.
Avatar n tn this is whats written on my test results and it was negative at 11 weeks post low risk exposure. Is it as sensitive as elisa?
394017 tn?1255014532 I was so afraid that the neurologist was going to tell me that I had MS, that I didn't think to insist that they use the IGenX lab. I could have kicked myself for that after I left the office! He said he was ordering a Lyme disease titer. I know our local clinic uses Quest as their outsource lab. I haven't gotten a call back yet and don't know how long it takes for results of this test.
