As with any HIV test the only conclusive test is one taken 3 months post exposure. DUO tests cannot detect HIV 2 any earlier than a straight antibody test.

Could the slightly longer window period of the WB over the ELISA be why the 3 month window period remains despite shorter Ab detection times in ELISAs? After all they don't diagnose from ELISA alone.

The problem is that in Brazil the lab will ask for a second test imediately after a 1st test only if the 1st is positive. If the 1st is indeterminate they tell the person have to wait 30 days and repeat... In this case, they asked for a second test imediately...

I was told the dna pcr test is pretty conclusive after 28 days. If the dna pcr test is so unreliable, why is it used for testing for blood donors in my area to help shorten the window period? Thanks for any responses.

Why is my skin so sensitive? I am always itchy, I get random hives all over the place, I get inflamed welts on my skin (mostly on the face) if exposed to the cold for more than 5 minutes, and I also get super itchy hives when I sweat. I notice it mostly on my chest, neck and face. Any ideas?

If it is used to measure the viral burden, then the accuracy of detection is very high, so it can detect extremely small amounts of virus in the blood. Why then not use it for conclusive results? The conclusive timeframe for ELISA is 3 months, but before you seroconvert, the virus spreads quickly in your blood, so you are supposed to have large number of infected cells, so PCR should detect that easily!!?!?! Right!?!?!?

I was so afraid that the neurologist was going to tell me that I had MS, that I didn't think to insist that they use the IGenX lab. I could have kicked myself for that after I left the office! He said he was ordering a Lyme disease titer. I know our local clinic uses Quest as their outsource lab. I haven't gotten a call back yet and don't know how long it takes for results of this test.
