Where are the 4 heart valves located

Common Questions and Answers about Where are the 4 heart valves located

heart

Avatar f tn Many people have leaky heart valves. As long as the leakage is not moderate or severe, it is not such a problem. I can not imagine that your symptoms are related to the leakage of your valves.
Avatar m tn For some perspective a very fast heart rate and irregular beat can cause blood clots...coumadin is a blood thinner to help prevent clots. Stenosis is a narrowing (usually calcification) of the valve oening. When severe it can cause an increase left ventricle size. Regurgitation is the backflow of blood (leaflets do not close valve opening properly) and if severe there can be a reduction of blood pumped into circulation causing heart failure (worst-case scenario).
17020225 tn?1455749597 Today I had an EKG done . the doctor said the only thing it showed was that the valves on the right side of the heart were slower. Which he said didn't cause any problems. I looked up the right side valves and it showed they were the mitral and tricuspid. But what exactly does it mean they are slow? Does that have to do with the regurgitation?
Avatar m tn The EKG shows the rhythm of the heart and if there are any irregularities in the heart beat itself. It will also show if the person has damaged walls due to cardiomyopathies as well as if a person has had, or is having a heart attack; during a stress test, it will also show if the heart walls are not getting enough oxygen.
1209474 tn?1265952310 A normal mitral valve consists of two thin leaflets, located between the left atrium and the left ventricle of the heart. Mitral valve leaflets, shaped like parachutes, are attached to the inner wall of the left ventricle by a series of strings called "chordae." When the ventricles contract, the mitral valve leaflets close snugly and prevent the backflow of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium.
Avatar m tn I realize the regurgitation is minor in the valves, but considering it is hapening in 3 out of the 4 valves, can it have a accumulative effect? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Your doctor will also watch for complications like the infrequent development of a leaking aortic valve, or blockage developing under the aortic or pulmonary valves (can be seen when the VSD is located in the perimembranous region). As long as your child gets regular follow up for the heart during his growing years, it sounds like all should go well.
Avatar m tn That would be unusual if the gradient was low in the beginning and the heart chambers are not enlarged. Before embarkign on surgery you may be wise to have the echo test repeated and then get a second opinion if the concern is the same.
Avatar m tn iam always dizzy and i also have feet pain. lately my back hurts right where the lungs are located on both the left and right side of my back. My question is would a normal echo like the one i had last year change in one year ? could it be that i need to repeat my echo. i had a stress echo 6 months back after asking my doctor and it was also normal. does a stress echo look for problems with the valves like regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension?
Avatar f tn Your job will be to take your medication and to tell the doctor how you are doing on your medication. The doctor who follows you for this problem will probably need to be a cardiologist or at least an internist. A GP or family practice doctor may not have the skills, and probably will not be comfortable, serving as your only doctor for this issue.
Avatar m tn t help any of the current heart condtions. Sometimes, as one ages there is some calicification of the heart valves that cause some leakage, and really not considered medically significant unless the leakage is moderate to severe, then there may be some shortness of breath, chest pains, etc. Thanks for sharing and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. Take care.
7465131 tn?1391023265 Could it be that your son has an aortic valve that has only two leaflets instead of the usual three? This condition is called a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). It seems much more plausible to me that he has a BAV than that he only has two heart valves. A physically active male in his 40's is almost the stereotype of a newly diagnosed BAV patient. Someone who was born with only two heart valves would have been having severe symptoms since birth.
Avatar n tn i bought the doppler heart beat moniter and i am always looking 4 the heart beat its very easy 2 find but i just want to kno when the baby will movd up and where the baby is located now!!
Avatar f tn One of the more dangerous mistakes people make is they kind of get focused on the heart and forget the other organs. Once the workup for the heart is done its important to go back to your primary care and seek out their opinion as to the next clinic to see. I see the heart anxiety on a daily basis mind you, and frankly I feel alot of it stems from the popular perception on the importance of the heart. I mean if the heart stops you die right?
Avatar n tn If she has a catheter, it will not be that bad. The doctors will go up most likely through the groin and remove the plaque in her arteries. The build up has to be removed, otherwise it will plug up further and eventually cause a heart attack. Has she had her valves checked with a current echocardiogram?
Avatar n tn After the echo, I found out that I have two leaky heart valves. The doctor said the leaks are so minor at this point that I should not worry about it, and that I did not need to take any medications. Well now four years later, I am beginning to wake up in the middle of the night with chest pains on my heart side, but this time it feels as if someone is poking my heart with a bunch of little needles, and drenched in sweat again. I am going to have to go in for another echo.
Avatar f tn The report does not say where the dilation is located, but even if it is at the ascending part of the aorta, normal range there is 22-36mm. You need to have this further investigated soon as you might be at risk of aortic dissection.
Avatar f tn A heart valve is a oneway pass for blood flow through the heart and out into circulation. A "sticky" valve impedes the normal flow of blood through the heart by narrowing the valve opening medically referred to as stenosis.
17508117 tn?1457336716 The MRI and TEE showed that the valves are okay, however, there is a lesion between the heart and lungs that is giving me severe chest pains that are not related to exertion. The assumption of the doctor is that the leion could be from the cut that was created during surgery six years back in 2010. My question is, What is a heart leasion and what leading to the wound not to heal from six years back and what is the possible way as moving forward?
800701 tn?1237685637 It is not uncommon for an indiviudal to have leaky valves. Mild, trivial, trace are considered medically insignificant and often do not progress, nor require any treatment. If and when valve leakage becomes severe it can/will cause shortness of breath with mild exertion, chest pains, fatigue, etc. The sympoms occur as the heart does not meet the system's demand for adequate oxgenated blood.
Avatar f tn I have 2 leaky valves and am not sure which ones. When I exercise my heart rate jumps all the way to the upper 190's. I am waiting on the results of my holter monitor, and on the results of my echo. What would thee advice be on exercise until I have a complete diagnosis as well as the severity of the leaky valves.
Avatar f tn Hi there, It depends on which valve is leaking. The Aortic valve needs replacement, sooner than any of the other valves. Normally valves takes a long time to deteriorate and moderate regurg should still be checked with annual echo's. You become a candidate for surgery when your heart function deteriorates, heart enlarges, low LVEF, signs of heart failure or pulmonary hypertention. The leak is graded from 1-6. That is the amount of blood pumping back into the Atrium.
Avatar m tn My consultant (who is just great) has informed me I will need to have both valves replaced,I had a mitral valve repair 14years ago,I am wondering what is the success rate of having both valves replaced at the same time.I am 63 years of age and have some severe symptoms including a.f.
Avatar m tn The mitral valve has leaflets that allow the blood to flow between the valves. The valves are not calcified, stenosed (narrow) or prolapsed (floppy). Your valves are healthy and doing a great job for you : ) Your holter monitor picked up a couple of PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) and an isolated PAC (premature atrial contraction). To give you an idea of how OK that is -- There were days I had over 20,000 PVCs (I'm fine...lol).
Avatar n tn Your heart valves seem not closing completely before your heart pumps out blood. however these valves show trivial or mild regurgitation that would sometime consider as normal variant. The best thing to look at the Echo is the Ejection Fraction (EF) which should be more than 55%.
Avatar m tn Even this morning when I woke up, I had a sharp jolt of pain where the heart is located. Just in case, though, he scheduled me to have an echocardiogram next Friday, so we'll see what happens!
