Avatar m tn EF being as low as 10 means that his heart is not pumping enough. Which two valves are leaking? Sorry, but it does not look good. Heart valve surgery is a huge surgery and he would most likely not survive it. If his heart is not pumping out enough blood to his body, he will go into cardiac shock and all of his organs will shutdown and he will retain water and could put 30 pounds in a day or two.
Avatar m tn t help any of the current heart condtions. Sometimes, as one ages there is some calicification of the heart valves that cause some leakage, and really not considered medically significant unless the leakage is moderate to severe, then there may be some shortness of breath, chest pains, etc. Thanks for sharing and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. Take care.
7465131 tn?1391023265 He has recently learned he has a heart murmur and further testing revealed he only has 2 heart valves. I have never heard of this before. Generally he feels fine, he works out and runs & does not have a problem with shortness of breath. This came as a real shock! What do you advise? Should he get a second opinion?
Avatar m tn and sleep for a day or more. Cardiologist suspects a leak in the St. Jude valve and we are doing more testing. Hve had two right heart catheritizationsin 18 months to measure pressues due to secondary pulmonary hypertension. Now I am being told I have congestive heart failure. I weight 220lbs and am approx 6'2" tall; relatively sedentary due to low energy. I also still have active dissections going off the aortic arch. Questions: 1. Do the St.
17508117 tn?1457336716 The MRI and TEE showed that the valves are okay, however, there is a lesion between the heart and lungs that is giving me severe chest pains that are not related to exertion. The assumption of the doctor is that the leion could be from the cut that was created during surgery six years back in 2010. My question is, What is a heart leasion and what leading to the wound not to heal from six years back and what is the possible way as moving forward?
Avatar f tn Any heart problems make you high risk. I was born with 12 holes in my heart and a heart murmur and even though all but one hole closed im still at risk.
Avatar m tn Theheart valves are damaged by the cancer, and it may cause the valves to malfunction. In severe cases, the heart valves may need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is often a sign of very advanced cancer and carries a poor prognosis. Another rare type of cancer known as carcinoid tumor at times produces hormones that can damage heart valves.
Avatar f tn in 2010 i had a echocardigram done it showed 3 leaking valves main one my aorta ..had one done in may it was only a 5 minute silent one showed only 2 valves leaking the aorta was not even on the results...can a valve stop leaking on its own?my new dr is doing another echo next month,,,but i also had 2 abnormal stress test in may too i was throwing pvc's.
Avatar n tn I am a 27 year old female, in very good physical condition and was just told by my PCP that I have 2 heart valves that are "slightly" leaky. The cardiologist called these leaks "not impressive". This conclusion was reached after I had an echocardiogram. The reason I initially saw my PCP was for what felt like palpatations in my chest and slight chest discomfort. He heard a murmur so I was sent for the echo.
Avatar n tn How serious is mild leaking heart valves? (2) I was told it was nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn How concerned should I be about the valves (had an echo 3 years ago and no valve problem at that time) and how do I overcome the pain in the chest, neck and palpatations without always thinking there is an upcoming heart problem. Heart cath revealed "non critical heart condition", Holter monitor OK, tachycardia but normal rythmn, some premature beats...
Avatar f tn I have 2 leaky valves and am not sure which ones. When I exercise my heart rate jumps all the way to the upper 190's. I am waiting on the results of my holter monitor, and on the results of my echo. What would thee advice be on exercise until I have a complete diagnosis as well as the severity of the leaky valves.
Avatar n tn There are actually four valves in the heart, and the two I mentioned are the ones that in the vast majority of cases need repair. Mitral valve issues are frequently the result of a birth defect, though both valve issues can be a result of wear and tear or a poorly managed diet. So long as the most severely damaged valves could be worked on, you have nothing to worry about. Stay positive and keep on your dad's case about his diet and exercise.
Avatar m tn No, if all valves in a heart have trace/mild regurgitation then it's fine. So, the aortic valve is not leaking, they feel sure about that much. So this leaves the pulmonary valve. This is obviously where blood exits the heart to travel through the lungs to receive new oxygen (right side of the heart). I would establish exactly what physiologic degree of pulmonic regurgitation means because I have no idea?
447939 tn?1235061943 hi i know an echo doesnt show the valves but would the heart be structually fine if you had blocked valves? also if you was having a heart attack at the time the medics did your vitals would the blood pressure be high, low or normal?
Avatar f tn The coronary arteries are not the vessels which actually feed the heart with blood to be pumped through the valves and through the body. Your heart would not receive any more blood into the chambers with the artery being opened up. Your heart may simply be working more efficiently and pumping more blood with each cycle. More likely the valves had problems before but wasn't discovered or the condition was very mild then. Are the valves leaking mild/moderate or severe?
1401138 tn?1280788265 There are four valves that have distinct sounds as blood flows into the heart, through, and out into circulation. There can be calification on one or more valves, mitral valve prolapse (leaflet doesn't properly close the valve orifice), and/or a hole in the heart that has an abnormal flow between chambers (shunting). It wouldn't be unusual to have one or more valves calicified...mitral valve prolapse and a hole between chambers and any combination of the causes.
960316 tn?1246953305 Not really....a lot of people have this problem. It just means that the valves in your heart allow a small amount of backflow of blood. Because it's classified as trivial, I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have the listings of trivial, moderate and severe. You probably want to keep an eye on it, but it's not really worth worrying about and I'm sure if you asked your doctor about it, he'd tell you the same thing.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who has just been told she has 3 leaky heart valves but they did not tell her to see a cardiologist - they told her she could follow-up with her family dr. Is this bizarre or normal to not see a cardiologist for triple leaky valves?
552012 tn?1272855991 I checked the sites you mentioned, cardiosmart and AHA both gave general information only. I want to know what meds have trace aspirin elements in them that I will not be able to continue to take if I go on coumadin.
Avatar f tn Many people have leaky heart valves. As long as the leakage is not moderate or severe, it is not such a problem. I can not imagine that your symptoms are related to the leakage of your valves.
Avatar m tn Heart murmurs can be innocent sounds (clinically insignificant) heard by stethoscope and the sound is caused by increased flow or turbulance across anatomically normal valves. The valves are a one-way passage of blood from the upper chamber to the lower chamber, and there distinct sounds during the pumping phase and resting phase and the intensity of sound is relevant. systolic, diastolic or continuous.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had a mechanical aortic valve fitted 14 years ago and everything is okay. As long as you look after yourself generally, don't drink alcohol or drink it to excess if you do drink it at all, you should have no problems with your warfarin...go for your regular blood tests and take the required amount of warfarin daily and all should be well and good.
Avatar m tn ve just never heard of any way that an abnormal heart rhythm can prevent heart valves from closing properly. Now, someone with regurgitant heart valves can certainly have a heart rhythm issue in addition to the valve problem. That happens all the time. But as to an abnormal heart rhythm actually being the CAUSE of valve regurgitation, you'll have to explain that one to us, and maybe we can all learn something.
Avatar m tn With the kidney disease, open heart surgery is most likely not an option. Normal heart valves start mildly leaking at around age 40. It could be completely normal for his heart valves to be leaking a little for his age. Valve replacement surgery or valve repair surgery is a complex surgery and a difficult one. I am not sure if I would even to brave enough to go through it at my age of 44. I have seen many in our family go through this and it was horrible each time.
787406 tn?1339203183 Recently after having total thyroidectomy, I was told i have leaky heart valves in the tricuspid, aortic and mitral valve. What causes this to come on suddenly?
Avatar f tn Bovine valves are not as long lasting as mechanical either and are made from the cows heart tissue, not its valves.
Avatar n tn Well, I have one leaky valve and the doctors told me that this is a normal heart for a 44 year old. The heart valves can improve on their own. I have spoke to several elderly people who are in their 80's who said that they had bad valves and that they just got better and they did not need surgery. My grandfather had a leaky valve for 30 years. The heart valves will cause extreme shortness of breath if they become severe and need attention.
