Common Questions and Answers about What is aldara used for

Avatar f tn Also you should only use the cream in small quantitys as it is also used for skin cancer therefore it is very strong. The skin in the genital area is also very tender. I used the cream for 1 week, so thats 3 applications before I had to take a break from it. I was so sore down below - burning, itching, stinging. Some days I couldn't walk either. I realised I had probably used too much cream and I should of stopped as soon as I started feeling pain. This may be the same for you.
Avatar m tn what is the normal time it takes for the skin redness and burning to heal after using aldara? i used it for about a month and a half and my penis has never been the same even after 3 weeks off the awful drug. if anyone could offer anything thatd be great. im trying to go see a derm doc. i cant live with this burning pain for the rest of my life. dont know where to go... thanks.
Avatar m tn For what it's worth I contracted molluscum thru my partner. He had it on his forearm and legs. Somehow it ended up on my lady parts. He denied ever having it on his man parts. At first I truly thought is was razor burn. In all actuality me shaving led to multiple bumps. They never itched, hurt, or bothered me. I realized they were getting worse than better. I got scared and made an appt right away and right away the dr knew what I had.
Avatar f tn So she prescribed me Aldara and I used it for two weeks but after two weeks the side effects were really bad so I stopped using it for a week. After that week the side effects from Aldara had all cleared up and I wen to go put the cream on again only to discover that my "warts" were gone. Is it normal that the warts would clear up after only two weeks with Aldara? I have always had a really good immune system but that just seems really fast.
Avatar m tn How do I know that Aldara is working? I used it for 2 weeks applying it 3 times a week and since nothing happened too significantly, I started using it every day a couple weeks later (of not doing anything). Now there is a tiny tiny sore on the tip (it is also red) and I don't know what indicates that Aldara is successfully working? I think I may start using it 3x a week again because that is what the Dr. recommended...
Avatar m tn o u gotta be careful with aldara i used it it worked for me but u can only get it on the warts if u get it on ur healthy skin it will burn the ish outta it and it'll get all red and burn so put Vaseline and ur healthy skin.
Avatar m tn Hello, Aldara cream or Imiquimod is used for treatment of actinic keratosis, warts and topical treatment of biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults. It is still not confirmed whether your mole is a malignancy or a mole. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Confirmation can be done by excisional biopsy with narrow margins.
Avatar m tn I really want to use this cream but the pharmacist quoted me over $600 for a 24pack of the cream. Which is too high for me and my gf to afford. Neigther of us have insurance. I was just wonder how much you all without insurance and even with insurance have paid for your prescriptions.
Avatar m tn The skin on the head of the penis likely was in contact with the area where the aldara was applied and would have been in contact with it for some hours at night. Anyone know if this is a common reaction for aldara. Its similar but different to a cold sore that one gets on your lip.
Avatar m tn I have been treating anal warts for 8 weeks with aldara and after about 6 weeks i noticed they were slowly shrinking. While the visible warts are indeed shrinking (almost gone entirely), i know that there are internal ones in my anus that are still there, whether or not the aldara is helping them is undetermined. I visited my dermatologist today and she just asked if it helped and when i told her yes, slowly but surely she gave me 3 repeats of aldara and said just keep going until they're gone.
Avatar n tn 1) I've read/heard that Aldara is very potent but does it really work this fast? It's just been 2 days (I apply it every other day-3 times a week-as prescribed). 2) Also I was told not to shave b/c the warts can spread but does that mean in the area where the warts are (near the vaginal opening-no hair there) or in the general vicinity (as in nowhere down there)? 3) I'm supposed to get my period this week. Should I use tampons or pads? 4) Is it okay to wear thongs?
Avatar m tn Eventually I had them checked, they were warts and I had them removed and was put on Aldara. I used what my dermatologist gave me but I had no insurance so I never actually filled the prescription. The warts came back months later. I thought about the laser surgery which would be very expensive but the doctor put me back on the Aldara, which I filled this time, hoping it would take care of the problem.
Avatar f tn In the process of getting rid of them she put acid on them (2 different sessions) which helped but certainly did not take care of the issue. She prescribed me Aldara, Imiquiod 5%. It is to be used at night and washed off in the morning around 6-10 hours later. I used it twice, the first time having no reaction, the second accidentally sleeping in leaving it on for longer than the first. I think that in my sleep I moved around a bit much and the cream spread onto my inner labia.
Avatar f tn What chance is there that these keloids will re appear? and if they do will they be worse than before? what is your best advice? According to our dermatologist (who is known to be one of the best in our country) there is only a 10% chance that they will re-appear using ALDARA cream.
Avatar m tn So finally i got the balls to goto the doctor and get it checked out. Well what do you know its Molluscum. Doctor prescribes me Aldara. It's been 1 week so far and it had already spread to my pubic area and a little on my happy trail. I'm trying to be calm about this but reading these forums is pissing me off. Not to mention that my girlfriend wants to have sex when she comes down from school. Looks like thats out of the picture.
Avatar m tn but they have continued to go away.. pretty much all of the external ones are gone.. I'm not sure what the situation is internally.. I have to go back to the clinic for a check up this week so we will see then. The fact that they seem to be going away on their own now is giving me hope that my body is getting the virus under control or something so hopefully I won't have a recurrence. PS: I have started taking a multi vitamin every day and eating a lot more fruit etc etc.
Avatar f tn I’ve read that one can get herpes-like symptoms from Aldara. Is it normal to experience this a week after I’ve stopped using it? Is it normal for it to last this long? Is it possible? I’m very petrified, too petrified to go back to my gyno. Please help.
Avatar f tn What is the downside to using Aldara for SCC? I have had success with several on my legs, having decided to not have any more terribly painful surgeries for SCC on the legs because just as soon as I would think I was rid of it, right in the same spot it would still be growing, causing another painful surgery adjacent to already badly sewn up and patched up areas. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/568061'>Aldara and squamous cell carcinoma</a>.
Avatar m tn S. I used the solution 2x day for 3 days (sometimes 4) a week, 4 days off for 3 weeks. I believed the warts were gone as it has been a week or so and I havent seen anything coming back, but I can now see them recurring slowly in both spots..
Avatar n tn Also isn't the first breakout painful and severe and with blisters and other symptoms in *most* cases? Given all this, what are the chances this is herpes? Also, does Aldara trigger an outbreak of herpes, if it is herpes? It seems more than a coincidence that it should happen when I was using Aldara. Please let me know. Thanks!
Avatar f tn When the world of unknown viruses is vastly greater than what is known then who can tell what is slipping through the medical screening radar. Granted less and less is now days but I assure you a lot of viruses do to.
Avatar n tn Well,it was red and sore before the Aldara too... that's why I orginally went and got checked. Imagine my surprise when he said the biospy read "vuval warts", which, I don't think has anything to do with the irratation. Can the biospy be wrong? Like I said, no metion of HPV... so confused!

Avatar m tn What i can tell is that before using Aldara she feels very well. Maybee Aldara works for some people, but for the other it could be really dangerous .
Avatar f tn I'm not an expert, but from what I understand it is used to treat other things then just warts and has been used to treat areas of concern regarding skin cancer- as far as skin tags in the genital area- I believe they just remove them more then give you medication for them. I'd head to your local pharmacy and just ask them if they know of this medication being used for skin tags- your pharmacists are usually the biggest help when it comes to uses and interactions of prescriptions.
Avatar m tn hey im a 20 year old gay male who used aldara for some small gw for about a month. i quit becuase it was irritating my penis. i have a huge redish pink tinlgling burning blotch that appears to be getting better (after over 3 weeks!) but now another is starting to form i believe it is not incredibly flakey like some of the psoriasis pictures ive seen but it has been kinda dry..
Avatar m tn I have used aldara for awhile.. (i'm female)for me its only made my skin more sensitive and once it gave me a blister which made me bleed. Maybe you shoulod just call and ask your doc about whats going on..I only thought aldara caused local skin reactions.
Avatar m tn Aldara causing sores (ulcers) is actually a relatively normal response. It's even common for those undergoing treatment with Aldara to be misdiagnosed with herpes when they have these sores! I'd skip an application or two and then return to treatment. Just use a q-tip to apply the medicine, and put Vaseline around the normal skin to protect it. Also, perhaps don't use as much and leave it on for 6-8 hours opposed to 10. This might help.
Avatar m tn It cost $180 more in some other drugstores. I bought two boxes and used for 5 ½ weeks Monday to Friday as the vet said. Seemed to work fine but when stopped there was a slight improvement but not as much as hoped for considering the cost. The cream only seemed to work when it was being applied. He now still gets the little scabies. He had a sore and lump on his shoulder where the bigger biopsy was taken that wouldn't stop bleeding.
