Common Questions and Answers about Aldara side effects forum

aldara

Avatar m tn I've been using Aldara for over two weeks now and am experiencing absolutely no side effects at all. Now I'm not disappointed believe me, but the one and only nice thing about side effects is that they indicate that whatever you are using is not "working" per-se but that it's doing *something*. Is this normal? Also, my doctor did a pretty deep freeze of the warts before sending me home with Aldara.
Avatar n tn My dr is eager to answer any questions that I have, and I like her very much, but honestly, I dont think she knows all there is to know about aldara. When I asked about side effects, she seemed very confident that the side effects were mild flu-like symptoms. She even seemed surprised to hear of the list of symptoms I asked her about. And she even said that as far as she knows, there are no sytemic side effects to using the med vaginally.
Avatar f tn I have read all the horror stories about the cream and will like to know if there is a posssibility of damage to his immune system due to the use of this cream. he has mollocum contagiosum. He did not have any other side effects.
Avatar f tn Is there any link to aldara stopping your menstral cycle? Just used stopped using it and haven't had my cycle since I used it. Since July 2 I haven't had any menstration. My boyfriend has a vasectomy (14 years). I have taken like 5 pregnancy tests (all negative) and I'm looking at the calender and its been 9 weeks since any kind of flow. I haven't used it in 2 weeks. Im not on the pill, dont have any STIs (neither of us - tests came back).
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed Aldara cream for my genital warts and have a couple of questions. 1) My doctor told me to apply the cream all over the shaft of my penis & around the scrotum area - in order to help treat sub-clinical warts. Everything from the instructions on the cream to my reading on the internet says "apply directly to the warts and avoid contact with skin around the warts" What is your advice?
Avatar m tn I would like to see if anybody has used Aldara, not had any noticable negative side effects, and had it still be effective.
Avatar n tn The first medicine I tried was Aldara, when they first started showing up. All the Aldara served to do was eat apart my skin, scar my scrotum, and generally hurt really bad. I don't think even one wart disappeared in that time. Since then I've tried many "herbal" remedies and have had success with none of them. The only thing that seems to work is ripping the warts off myself, which was painful at first but works fairly well.
1306047 tn?1333247191 I remember you from the past on this forum. Aldara can have side effects that you mention and was never something I was going to use. I agree with freezing or burning them off. The sooner they are gone, the better.
Avatar f tn Why wouldnt his doctor pick a more conservative commonly used method over a medication with lots of adverse side effects? Perhaps my boyfriend lying to me/maybe his derm isnt being honest with him. There are a lot of possibilities here and I simply would like your expert opinion so I know whether or not I have possibly been exposed to genital warts.
Avatar m tn Also, the Veregen and Aldara cause lots of side effects like blistering, redness, bumps, etc. Also, some bumps return soon after the treatment, almost as soon as the skin heals a few bumps appear...so I'm still noticing these "suspicous" bumps. I'm sure my dermatologist is competent but I think he's more proficient with things like skin cancer and cosmetic issues and maybe doesn't see genital warts too often. Would and STD clinic be a better option?
Avatar f tn Aldara causes more inflammation as a side effect than some other treatments, in which case there might be some uncomfortable urination. But no serious side effects are likely. 3) I can't get into such specific treatment recommendations. Each case and each patient are different. This is something to discuss with the doctor who is treating you with podophyllin and prescribing Aldara. (In general, I avoid using more than one treatment at a time.
Avatar n tn Aldara eliminated some of the very small warts but there was no change to the bigger ones. Further, the aldara did not change my skin at all...no side effects either. I used apple cider vinegar which appeared to work initially, but the bigger warts are back. Further, I have now developed a wart (three months later) that is totally different then the others on my lower scrotum. This one is triple in size and dark red in color. I am assuming this is also a wart.

Avatar n tn I need to work on getting back into shape. Some of the aldara side effects though seem really really nasty. like not being able to pee, or sit, or stand, or walk, trips to the er, surgeries to correct problems while on aldara. I'd like to know how many of those issues were because of misuse of the product too though. I guess i'll have to order one month's worth, see how it goes, and then move on from there.
Avatar n tn although in many communities, some general surgeons specialize in colon and rectal problems. Don't be tempted to use Aldara internally; it won't work and could cause painful side effects.
Avatar n tn So 2nd opinion may not clarify things, especially with to treat first and not worry about side effects, given high rates of general population infection. I know it’s hard to diagnose without a visual exam, but even if I do have microscopic warts, why trade an immaterial, benign mark for a material scar?
Avatar m tn Right after the shot, I decided to do some research about the vaccine side effects (something I should have done on the first place), and I found out that there have been several cases with severe adverse reactions to Gardasil, that include death. I’ve experienced some of the normal side effects however, nothing serious. Should I consider wartrol and viralfree?
Avatar n tn My main questions for you are about Aldara. I've read that some of the side effects can be quite bad, causing serious irritation to the point of ulceration in some cases. What should I expect? Also, the biopsy of one of the lesions was only taken less than a week ago and I'm still healing--the stitch has not even fallen away. So do you think I should wait until the biopsied area has fully healed? Finally, thanks for your advice on this (now dating back several weeks).
Avatar f tn I feel for you because I experienced bad side effects to aldara which left me in a lot of pain, it really isn't nice but in my opinion it is the safest option.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the STD forum. I'll try to help. You can be very sure you did not acquire genital herpes from this event, for several reasons. You apparently know some or all of themn from your previous research on the forum; your problem is in over-thinking the situation and over-interpreting meaningless symptoms and skin changes, which is clouding your ability to objectively "get it".
Avatar n tn , but that doesn't mean it is the only option or that it is necessarily best for you. 2) TCA has no side effects other than the direct irritation of tissues, which is why it works against warts. There is no maximum treatment. But please understand I'm not much of an expert on the stuff: I have never used it! My clinic has always stuck with podophyllin, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, and in recent years, prescriptions for podofilox or imiquimod. I hope this helps a bit.
Avatar m tn Most therapies are nearly equivalent and the choice of therapies depends on what the clinican sees, what he or she feels most comfortable with and potential side effects. etc.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum. I'll try to help. First, it is uncommon for genital warts to reappear more than a few months after treatment and resolution. It can happen, but is rare. On that basis alone, it is unlikely the bump you saw was a wart. Second, your description doesn't sound like a wart.
Avatar n tn My advice would be to work with your doctor to find the type of treatment that works best for you, both in terms of effectiveness and side effects and stick with it. In addition to the treatments you mention some particularly hard to treat warts respond well to laser treatments which are offered by some gynecologists or dermatologists. Perhaps this is an option. The topic of HPV and genital warts is a complex one. I hope my comments have been helpful.
Avatar f tn they asked how the Aldara was working and I told them I had not noticed any change nor any of the side effects generally associated with it. I told them I wanted to pursue the freezing and they said someone would call me back. Nobody has yet. I have an appointment with a dermatologist (following your advice) Thursday and I let them know that I expect to have them frozen that day. They were very nice and understanding on the phone (I am still quite emotional about this).
Avatar m tn 2 Therapy with cytokines is, however, parenteral and is associated with unwanted side-effects. Imiquimod (Aldara, R-837, S-26308) and resiquimod (R-848, S-28463) are members of a new group of low molecular weight compounds, the imidazoquinolinamines3 (Figure). These have been shown to have properties as immune response modifiers in vitro and in vivo, and demonstrate antiviral and anti-tumour activity via endogenous cytokine production.
Avatar m tn There's no pain, but very frequent urination and the constant feeling that my bladder is always full even right after I empty. I'm starting to get adverse side effects from the Elmiron (cramping, itching, insomnia and i'm willing to bet money it's effecting the sight in my left eye) I'm getting no where with my GYN. do you have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn The problem of delivery into the hepatocytes and possible side effects are likely to delay or kill this interesting effort to combat Hepatitis B.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the STD forum. I'll try to help. As it happens, someone close to me has psoriatic arthritis and takes Humira, so I am especially sensitive to your and your partner's situation. Unfortunately, there are no useful data on interactions between HPV and humira or related drugs. I did a quick medical literature search in response to your question.
