Avatar f tn A child may develop pain in a finger for many different reasons. Talking children will be able to describe the specific features and location of the pain. Infants and toddlers may only be fussy, and identifying the source of pain may take some detective work. Joint damage, muscle irritation, bone disease and skin destruction are common causes of finger pain. Trauma Direct injury to the finger is the most common cause of finger pain in children.
Avatar n tn t sound as lactose intolerance. Viral diarrhea (Rotavirus) is common in children younger than 5 years, and some immunity develops after that, so it would be unusual to have 4 consecutive bouts of diarrhea from the virus. What is the color and consistence of his stool? How many times a day? He is complaining (or you suspect) about school problems? Any abdominal pain, if yes, where exactly?
1361044 tn?1277598308 He has been evaluated by PT and OT and both have said that he is underdeveloped in various areas especially motor skills. I left the ER feeling like I was overreacting but as a parent I know I'm not. They sid they would consider the Chairi severe if it was around 8mm. We have two Ped NSG appts. in two weeks. I hope they can figure out what is really going on. The reason I keep doing more research on this is that I keep hearing that Chairi is easily misdiagnosed and easily misunderstood.
Avatar n tn My child was wetting the bed, extremely thirsty all the time and was vomiting; his vomiting, we think, was contributed to a stomach virus he had at the time. We took him to the ER due to dehydration -they did a blood chemistry and his blood sugar was 399-they immediately admitted him to ICU and he was put on IV insulin. He's been a diabetic now for 3 years-he's now 9. He's has handled it amazingly well!
Avatar n tn s more common in boys and on and on and on! It really freaks a mom out! I had issue with my 2 1/2 year old, he would flap his hand and walk on his tip toes..all of which he has stopped now but those are red flags...but for him it didn't mean anything. He is talking up a storm and is definalty not autistic. I guess sometimes the more you know isn't always a good thing.

Avatar n tn Her gastro doctor had her tested for this due to frequent vomiting (she still grew at an impressive rate and was in good spirits most days). Is vomiting a common sympton of c diff in infants? She is on antibiotics right now and I am very hopeful that this will cure her of her frequent vomiting. Also, she has never had diarhea, as a matter of fact, she has been constipated since she was 3 months old and has been given a dose of Myrilax daily. Can c diff also be the cause of constipation?
Avatar f tn It is well known that vitamin B12 deficiency causes developmental delay and brain atrophy in infants and children. This has been reported in medical journals and texts since the 1960’s. The medical community (pediatricians, neurologists) is not routinely checking children who present with the first concern of developmental delay for B12 deficiency which is problematic and a clinical error.
Avatar n tn My nephew is 7 months old and lives in Mongolia. Recently, he was taken to the hospital for "turning blue" and "shaking". The doctors say he has an enlarged thymus and the hospital does not provide service for this condition. What can we do? What treatments are available? What are the possible outcomes? How immediate is this emergency? (please note the doctors say his chest x-rays are normal.
Avatar n tn The tolerable upper intake level for vitamin D for toddlers younger than 4 years old and young children between 4 and 8 years old are 2,500 IU and 3,000 IU, respectively. Anyone age 9 or older should not get more than 4,000 IU of vitamin D in a day. Read more: http://www.livestrong.
Avatar m tn The absolute bioavailability of the drug is approximately 82% and 68% in adults and children, respectively. In pregnant women, concentrations in maternal serum, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord and neonatal serum are comparable, which indicates that the drug diffuses freely across the placenta[48]. Breast-milk to plasma concentration ratio has been determined at 2.96 for lamivudine, measured with high-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry[49].

Avatar f tn Yes I also gave my children cooled, boiled water when they were young and in between the milk feeding, I am uncertain what the protocal is today and it varies from the country you live in.You may want to ask the Doctor of the child, I do not believe it would hurt the child but best be safe and ask.
Cat According to the CDC it is safe to be around infants and young children after getting the shingles vaccine. There is no documentation of children getting chickenpox from someone who has recently received the shingles vaccine. Enjoy your new grandson!!!
Avatar f tn There are anecdotal reports in which there is an association of infants being born with a serious eye condition that could result in blindness, and cleft palate. Since these drugs are excreted in breast milk, I would discourage their use while breast feeding. Their somnolent effect would be exaggerated in an infant. By the way, when your wife is pregnant, her dermatitis may improve.

Avatar f tn For example if the rest of the family eats salads, vegetables, and fruit and he see it every day, eventually he may try some. There is hope in the future. Mealtimes can be a battlefield when children do not have an interest to eating healthy or eat very little. It becomes the battle of the wits between the child and the parents. Slowly introduce new foods, and if he does not want it, do not make a fuss over it. Let it go and enjoy your meal. Try again in a few months.
