Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting in a toddler

vomiting

Avatar n tn My 20 month old grandson has had vomiting for almost a week. He has had a history of reflux, but this past week he has had some projectile vomiting, no fever, and just can't keep anything down. What should we do? No fever, his pedi thinks it's a virus and lasts 7 to 10 days.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply. He vomits during the night, not in the morning. He has a bottle of milk in the morning with no vomiting. He vomits undigested food at night, not just his dinner, but sometimes his breakfast.
1399155 tn?1280624978 i was wondering if its normal for a toddler to get blood sugars over 200 and not be a diabetic ? My son is 2 and we have had on 4 separate occations of blood sugar over 200 and one was over 300 , it is starting to concern me. I have heard that only diabetic should go over 200. yes i do wash his hand before testing my mother and a few cousins are diabetic so i have been testing him once and a while. he now is also drinking and peeing alot.
Avatar n tn Not wanting to eat is not as much of a concern as not drinking is - a child can dehydrate very quickly and dehydration can be very serious, especially in a child. Dehydration will also happen a lot faster if the child is also vomiting and/or has diarrhea or a fever. Please do not hesitate - take your child to the ER. Please let us know what you find out and how your child is doing. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn Nevertheless, the vomiting and not-eating continues. He will go for months with no vomiting, and after a while he starts to eat a little more normally. Then he goes through a period where he will vomit 1-2 times per day for about 10-14 days straight. Sometimes he vomits because he gags on food... foods that should not cause a person to gag. I have seen him gag on mashed potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal, lots of things. Other times, he vomits after he is completely finished eating.
Avatar n tn I am 6+1 and I haven't had the morning sickness kick in full force yet. I'm having to choke down food but no vomiting. I also have a toddler. Dreading when the vomiting starts! Maybe this babe will be a boy and I won't have any morning sickness because with DD I was barfing from 6 weeks well into mid-2nd tri. No advice, just empathy.
Avatar f tn 36 weeks 2 days and I have a sick 2 year old :( I just got over being a little under the weather myself.
Avatar n tn The episodes usually occur on a weekend and not during the week. It was occurring about 4-5 weeks in a row but had subsided recently until he had another vomiting episode this last weekend. This last episode was typical of the others. He awoke at around 2 am and started coughing. I went to his room and he had vomited in his bed. The vomit looked like pretty well digested food. He then vomited the rest of his food about 10 minutes later.
Avatar f tn my 2 yr old lost 3lbs in 13 days and my 10 yr old has lost about the same weight in 7 days. The toddler started with the symptoms a week prior to the 10 yr old. The cramping is so severe that they are up from 1 to 3 hours at a time in the middle of the night. My 10 yr old is an honor student and WAS very athletic before this past week. He hasnt been in school or been able to participate in basketball since his first night of illness... HELP!! My pediatrician seems to be as puzzled as me...
Avatar n tn Thursday was better and today Friday his first stool was pale with a hint of yellow (abdominal pain) and he had a second bowel movement a few hours ago, but it was almost "white". I'm taking him back to the pediatricians tomorrow, what do you recommend that I ask him?
Avatar f tn Sporadic contractions, first 2 hours 5 mins apart then for an hour 2 mins then for an hour 7 minutes apart then every 10 or 20 or hour, lasts anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds. What the hell is this, stomach bug? My toddler has a stomach bug we think, maybe. Jesus who else Iis going through this.
Avatar f tn She has not been in her crib for over a year now. She's been in a toddler bed since last June, without issue, and we have never had any problems with the toddler bed, until last week.
7677085 tn?1395374075 Okay I know this is the wrong forum to post this on, but my little girl (eighteen months today) has puked about eight times in less than twelve hours. i checked the toddler forum and the pediatric forum and they rarely get any replies, so I'm begging for help from mommies on here! I took her to her pediatrician and he told me what to watch for (danger wise). I'm looking for comfort techniques and advice on how she should sleep tonight.
Avatar f tn t tell if we are dealing with behavioral issues or not, because he will go a month without vomiting and then go for 2 mos vomiting more than twice a day. When he is in a cycle of vomiting, he throws up sometimes more than 4 times a day. Worst times seem to be in the morning and at bedtime. So, he throws up in his bed quite a bit too. He has GERD. He has been tested for gastroenteritis, had done an upper GI, a CT and also endoscopy with normal results.
Avatar n tn He may have a digestive problem. Has your pediatrician looked for food intolerance?.
Avatar f tn I gained more with my second... Why ever . lol. Stretch marks stayed the same, except going further up in some places where I had some already. If that makes sense. Don't think I got any new ones. I'm 38+1. I also thought I'd be gaining less since I have a very active toddler..lol. and I've had nausea and vomiting pretty much just as bad as during my first pregnancy. But nope... :) I guess it's always different for anyone.
Avatar f tn 35 weeks, healthy big baby, but this pregnancy has not been easy. Lost a lot of weight from vomiting in the beginning til 6 months & now I'm swelling. Ready to meet my baby and get back to my normal self!!
Avatar m tn In many kids during severe illness they can have nonketotic hypoglycemia-which is now being looked at more and more, if there are no more episodes of low sugar then the first episode was due to lack of eating, prolonged fasting on top of a severe illness that led to low fuel supply(glucose) in a toddler. So followup with a pediatrician who is comfortable with these concerns. Thanks for your patience, the folder is full and so is my clinic!
Avatar f tn We still have to rule out eggs and shellfish. She is also on Prevacid daily. In the interim, meal times are a nightmare. She wants to try new foods, but licks them. She refuses to chew and swallow her food. She will stilll go for gerber food if I offer it to her, but will not eat anything that has texture in it. She has never eaten pancakes, toast, etc. Even oatmeal has to be runny - she gags on food that is thick.
Avatar m tn The weird thing is that this happened in a second where after I threw up on that day 27 may 2008 it was like a turning point is it possible that I have developed a hital hernia from vomiting? I could recall additional vomiting before that day but infrequently like once or twice in 3 weeks. Could this last throw up in 27 may 2008 be the knock out punch for me . I dont know Naser.A.
Avatar n tn I am currently 41 weeks and 3 days. I feel as if I have a toddler inside my body.
291233 tn?1347297526 My fear is that my daughter will toss things in the crib or get in the babies crib. How do I keep the baby safe from a toddler? She is a very good girl and obviously we will teach her that she has to be gentle but she is still a toddler. Comments please.
Avatar f tn I put my son in a toddler bed at 15-17 months.
Avatar m tn My son has sensory issues and gagging/choking are a real concern of his. As a tiny toddler/baby switching to solid food---- he did indeed choke and gag on food quite a bit and it created a fear for him. He had trouble chewing which caused the gagging and choking issue. Is that the kind of thing you are speaking of? My son was/is constant motion as well. He is what they call a sensory seeker and bumps into things and actually craves movement for her nervous system to feel right.
Avatar f tn Is it normal for a toddler (15 months) to stim by poking/ rubbing his eyes? He does this whenever he is having his bottle. We always hold him while he is 'nursing'. I am a special education teacher and have seen such behaviors in older children with disablilites, but I am not sure about a normal toddler. This is my grandson and none of my four children ever did this kind of thing. He talks, points and communicates in many ways quite normally.
