Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx update patients

vioxx

Avatar f tn There was no money exchanged or special consideration given to get Vioxx on the market. However, Vioxx is a good example of a study not digging deep enough into long term effects of a new drug. Vioxx was introduced in 1999 and was originally thought of as a treatment for polyps in the intestinal track.
Avatar n tn You are correct in stating that recent research has shown that certain inflammatory molecules have been implicated in the processes occurring within a cavernous angioma. However, this does not contradict the recommendation for patients with cavernous angiomas to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) which include ibuprofen, celebrex, vioxx, and others.
Avatar m tn Old doc said that scar tissue and bowel motility can cause irritation. Do any of your patients experience this? Bentyl was prescribed and I am not sure if it really helps. Gas plays a role that when it increases, the pain can as well and I pass it like crazy. Could this all just be gas, motility and scar tissue or could I be facing more ERCP or surgery to correct the first one? What do you recommend I ask my doc to look into first? Are you aware of anything that provides relief?
1435895 tn?1304291241 Thanks for the update...we do have a few this month...4 in fact that r having surgery..3 first timers from what I can tell...but I am sure ur sharing ur experience can help all of them. Even those that may be joining post surgery.
Avatar f tn NSAIDs may be tolerated in patients with mild chronic liver disease, but they should be avoided in all patients with cirrhosis because of the increased risk of hepatorenal syndrome (progressive kidney failure) and the dire consequences relating to this complication. Hepatorenal syndrome is a dreaded and frequently fatal complication of advanced liver disease. Avoidance of NSAIDs, is exceedingly important in maintaining the clinical stability of patients with well-compensated cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?
Avatar m tn Leading the list is the likelihood that a relatively small number of hepatitis C patients are also treated with amiodarone. About 250,000 to 300,000 patients in the U.S. are treated with amiodarone at any point in time, according to Sanford Bernstein analyst Geoff Porges.
Avatar m tn There are many, many trials of hundreds of thousands of patients over decades of research that show that both beta blockers and ACE inhibitors (like ramipril) improve left ventricular function and decrease mortality in patients exactly like yourself.
Avatar n tn Symptons are always have been cold, tired, joint and muscle pain worse in fingers, I took Vioxx before it was removed , high blood pressure , tinnitus, completely deaf over 2,500 cycles in both ears. Hearing aids made no difference. Dentist last month couldn't freeze my gums with 2 needles of Carbocaine. 7mm nodule on thyroid. Avatar f tn 1b) did not affect the treatment outcome, either in the overall population or among randomly assigned patients (Table 2). In all, 63% of patients with bridging fibrosis or cirrhosis had a sustained virologic response. Among patients with an extended rapid virologic response and bridging fibrosis or cirrhosis, rates of sustained virologic response were 82% in the T12PR24 group and 88% in the T12PR48 group (Table 2). This difference was not significant.
Avatar m tn , a privately held biopharmaceutical company targeting a cure for chronic hepatitis B and D patients, today announced that an updated interim analysis from its latest REP 401 clinical trial has been selected by the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of Liver (APASL) for oral presentation at its annual meeting to be held February 15-19, 2017 in Shanghai, China.
Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar f tn Pharmasset recently completed dosing in a 28 day Phase 2a trial to evaluate PSI-7977 in combination with Pegasys (pegylated interferon) plus Copegus (ribavirin) in treatment-naive patients chronically infected with HCV genotype 1. Pharmasset expects to initiate a 12-week Phase 2b study of PSI-7977 in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Avatar n tn [2] A series of small-scale studies completed in Germany found that H. procumbens was indistinguishable from Vioxx in the treatment of chronic low back pain,[3] and was well-tolerated after more than four years of treatment of H. procumbens alone.[4] H. procumbens also seems efficacious in the treatment of arthritis-caused hip and knee pain.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the update. I am sure your primary informed you that everyone's B12 level is different and everyone responds to it differently. For instance, a B12 level at 250, a person may feel paresthesias, tingling on back of tongue or uvula (the dangly thing in back of throat), ataxia (off balance), walking in a dark room and falling over, involuntary muscle jerking, etc. And you can have a person at a 250 level of B12 who does not experience these symptoms.
Avatar f tn Thanks a lot for posting the recent report from Replicor. Wow, I have never been as optimist as now after reading this recent report. I can't believe it, 7/9 patients with total clearance of hbsag, and this accompanied by as much as 2422mIU/ml anti-hbs is simply impressive, thanks again.
Avatar f tn Now we are preparing for the next stage of clinical trial to show the drug effect in patients suffering from CHB (without CHD). This will be the first trial in patients. Several hepatology clinics in Russia will participate in. We expect to have the result on the second half next year. Based on it we will correct further development program. For reference: Recent update for clinical trial published on 21Sept2012.

Avatar m tn It is commonly believed that for HeAg negative patients if the viral load is less than 10,000, antiviral treatment is unnecessary. This belief could be wrong. For these type of patients the liver is receiving sustained damage even when the viral load is at a low level (eg. less than 10,000 but above 1,000) and even when the ALT is normal. Most hepb-cirrhosis results from this long but sustained liver damage concealed by low viral load and normal ALT.
Avatar m tn Four ongoing Phase 3 studies will support Gilead’s initial regulatory filing in mid-2013 for an all-oral therapy with sofosbuvir plus RBV among genotype 2/3 treatment-naïve, treatment-experienced and interferon-intolerant patients, and for sofosbuvir in combination with RBV and peg-IFN among treatment-naïve patients with HCV genotypes 1, 4, 5 and 6.
Avatar f tn Here is an update …. I did 24 weeks of riba, peg and incevik. I just went for my 3 ½ month post treatment blood work and my virus remains negative. My cholesterol and triglycerides are high and my Amylase is also high - anyone know why these are all running high? My liver enzymes are normal.

446474 tn?1446347682 Thanks Hector. Wow that allergic reaction bit is scary. Never heard of that one before.
Avatar f tn suggestion from many Hepatologists is to have frank conversations with their patients about their options before embarking on the third drug..not only because of the lowered odss but the increased chances of resistance issues.... Again..good luck...
