Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex without prescription medication

valtrex

Avatar n tn What is the procedure for getting a Valtrex prescription?? Every time I go to this doctor I go to, he writes me a prescription for 3 months. And when the refills are up calling in to ask for more is not an option. They actually want you to come into the office. I don't have time to keep doing this. And I really don't see the point!?!? What needs to be looked at? Nothing is going to change!
Avatar n tn I am wondering most specifically about how long the medication should be taken for suppression. Both my original Valtrex prescription and my current Acyclovir prescription state that I should take the medication for up to a year. I've done that. I've been off the medication just because I chose to since I'm not sexually active right now. Please offer me some insight.
Avatar n tn Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
Avatar m tn Should we insist on antiviral medication or does this seem like a good call from the doctor? Does the medication have any side effects/risks for the infant? Advice from a specialist on HSV-2 will be greatly appreciated. Al I want is for my baby to do well at birth. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I found two separate prescription bottles of Valtrex in my girlfriends' closet. One from January and one from April. Both are for 10 pills and both bottles are full of all 10 pills. So she hasn't taken any...what does this mean? She's never mentioned having herpes and I've obviously never suspected it but just don't understand why someone would have two full prescriptions for Valtrex...
Avatar m tn 90-92% odds of not contracting hsv2 each year if all you do is avoid sex anytime the male has anything going on genitally. 95-96% odds of not contracting hsv2 each year if they avoid sex during any genital symptoms in the male and the male is on daily suppressive therapy with valtrex. 97-98% odds of not contracting hsv2 each year if they take the above 2 precautions along with using condoms.
Avatar m tn I need a valtrex prescription and the family doctor gave me some without prescription, the doctor asked to do a blood test for hsv type 1 (had around 6 cold sores at the time, valtrex worked wonders). At the time, I coudnt test for hsv because of taking valtrex but now i need a daily dose but i'm taking 1000mg lysine everyday. Will lysine affect the blood test result of hsv type 1? Do i need to stop taking it to test positive?
Avatar f tn I have read in various places that Valtrex is the only suppressive medication that has been proven in clinical trials to reduce transmission. I am under the impression, however, that this is simply because Valtrex is the only drug that has been tested for reduction in transmission. My question is....since Acyclovir also suppresses the HSV-2 virus, is it likely that it will also reduce the risk of transmission? Or, is Valtrex a more effective drug and should I consider switching to that?
Avatar n tn there are no long term side effects to taking the medication. Her smoking will do far more harm to her than valtrex ever could in the long run. Your risk of contracting hsv2 from her is overall very low to begin with. Suppressive therapy just puts the odds more and more in her favor.
Avatar f tn OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
1096856 tn?1333119985 I want to give myself the best chance of conceiving naturally but with the help of some medication. If I am not able to conceive without IVF, I think I would take that as a sign that I am just too old and by the time they did all their workups and procedures, I would be more like 44! I do want a child, but don't want to get too crazy about it. Thank you again for your response!! You are a great help to all of us.
Avatar f tn It was another week before I was able to get in to see my gyn so I was off Valtrex during that time. The Valtrex cleared up the lesions from the initial outbreak and I had some pinching sensation when I went in to see my GYN the following week. I mentioned that I had the pinching/tingling feeling. She did a silver pap to see if I responded to the Valtrex and if there was any viral shedding at that time. It was negative. I went on 500 mg Valtrex daily for suppression.
Avatar m tn with the Valtrex but without condom=98% he will NOT get it. (GREAT odds I must say! Please check me if theses %s are correct. Where does one get a female condom? Do they award even better protection than a male condom? Even though I've had no outbreaks that I can tell in a very long time(1-2yrs.), when I did the first couple of times the perineal area towards the anus was affected also. Would it behoove us that I take the Valtrex 3x day?
Avatar m tn In your experience and knowledge, is it unlikely to experience HSV2 symptoms such as lower back/buttock/sacral pain without apparent gland enlargement or lesions? That is, if you have these symptoms (sacral pain) do you normally have the gland enlargement and lesions as well? If the lesions appear later, how much later is typical?
Avatar f tn Ask your provider to change your prescription to acyclovir instead. Even without insurance you can get a course of it for episodic therapy for $4 at walmart and suppressive therapy for under $20 ( with a prescription from your provider of course ). You can have herpes lesions on the foot. That said, what you described on your hubby doesn't sound like it is one. If he hasn't been seen for it, he should be promptly and have it checked out.
Avatar m tn Also corticosteroids and topical immunosuppressants can be used but they are available under prescription. Also retract the foreskin daily and soak in warm water to clean penis and foreskin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn Hi oldie... haven't seen you in a while; how are things going? In answer to your question regarding T3 meds, while there are sites online that say they sell cytomel without a prescription, I would never buy from them, because I have no idea what they are really selling... There are also some glandular products that are sold over the counter, but they are supposed to have the actual hormone content removed and are simply ground up tissue. In short, T3 products sold in the U.
Avatar m tn I took 2g of Valtrex approximately 4hrs after the incident (I was lucky to have a friend with a prescription) .. If I continue to take Valtrex for the next 10 days is it at all possible that I might be able to avoid contracting the Oral or Genital HSV-1 ?? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Ok... I got my prescription filled today. Holly Mother Nature! how do people without insurance afford this??? Especially how do they afford suppressive treatment? I couldn't believe it. Now, back to my subject... I have the medicine... Last week I did the 3 day dose of Valtrex 500mg x2/day. I finished that on Fri. The next day I notice this new HUGE blister (the one I mentioned up here before) and by later that day I started feeling as if another was developing.
Avatar m tn You can get suppressive therapy with acyclovir from walmart ( and similar places ) for under $20/month even without insurance. You just need a prescription from your doctor. You can treat each ob as they occur for $4 at most places now too in the US with a prescription for acyclovir.
Avatar f tn I noticed a cold sore on my lip this morning, I took (2) grams (pills) of Valtrex on a empty stomach. I have headache, nausea, lightheaded, diarrhea, and can't function. How long will this last? when do I need to see a doctor? these are huge pills, wear off soon?
Avatar m tn Thanks to both of you for our timely responses and help. I have taken quite a bit of medication (valtrex & zovirax) for about 50 days or so. Some of the Valtrex came from a pharmacy (about 20g), but most of it was ordered from an online place that doesn't require a prescription (risky and possibly fake I realize). I also took Zovirax for about 9 days or so, with no real results. Also, I did see my doctor 2 days ago and he said he didn't think that it was my HSV either.
