valtrex for outbreaks

I only have hsv1 genital , i was on valtrex for the firs year then got off of it, no outbreaks until a month ago

I am also on Valtrex and I continue to get outbreaks but they last for a few days and then go away for weeks, sometimes months before I get another. My spouse who also has herpes does not take an antiviral so that is why I believe I still get my outbreaks. Are you still engaging in intercourse while having outbreaks, maybe that is whey they aren't getting better. Also, I'm not sure what famvir is, but maybe it is stronger than Valtrex and will help you.

Valtrex is usually for herpes infections and they usually just treat gbs with IV antibiotics when you're in labor so idk id call them back and ask why they gave you that?

I have been on valtrex for suppression of hsv 2 for 16yrs and continue to have outbreaks almost monthly. Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it.

We both were tested before I took Valtrex which I am on presently 500mg 2x day. Taken for 3-4yrs.. I think. The percentages are: with daily Valtrex and condom use=99% he will NOT get either of the herpes; with the Valtrex but without condom=98% he will NOT get it. (GREAT odds I must say! Thanks for your reply I have only so far taken the Valtrex if I think I an outreak is imminent,but it seems that as soon as I stop after the 5 days course withing a day or so the rash appears again albeit maybe just one tiny spot nothing major at all it's more annoying than anything else,I just felt if and when I took Aciclovar for outbreaks I didn't get another one for some time,since being changed over to Valtrex this is not the case,I have now asked to be on Supressive Therapy with

shouldnt outbreaks decrease over time? another thing i only take valtrex when i am having an outbreak 1 tab twice a say for 5 days.

So all in all, I was taking valtrex for a while and then I stopped for 4 or 5 days, had an "issue," and got it cultured within 24 hours of it initiating. I wasn't taking any valtrex at the time, and hadn't for about 4 or 5 days. I was just wondering if thats enough time -- or if it was still in my system.

I am having a really bad cold sore outbreak (getting one right after the other), so I finally asked my doctor for Valtrex. He prescribed 1000 mg a day for 7 days to clear it all up. I am looking online though, and it looks like the normal dosage is 2000 mg a day, twice a day, for one day. I am confused, and the doctor's office will be closed until Monday. I have had an out break, ulilateral on my right buttock, about every 30 days beginning this past November. I take Valtrex (500 g?) 2x a day for 3 days. The blisters clear up pretty quickly, I also use Zovirax cream to help with the itching. Suppression: 1000 mg once a day for people who have 10 or more outbreaks per year. 500 mg once a day for people who have 9 or fewer outbreaks per year. It is taken every day. There are no long term risks from taking Valtrex/herpes anti-virals.

In the third trimester my doctor has me take it from about 34 weeks till i ddeliver to prevent any outbreaks for when I go into labor. Are you in your third trimester?

Hi for suppression and valtrex per terri warren it would be 1000mg once a day for those who have 10 or more ob per year and 500 mg for those of 9 or fewer. So since 1000 = 1 gram that would be correct. You could also talk to your doctor about recurrent ob doses which is 2 grams twice in one day, 12 hours apart. Its not necessary to take it more than one day for the greatest benifit.

I know of someone who was on Valtrex 500 one pill per day and never had an outbreak for years. Couldn't afford them myself so didn't go for it.

I've had hsv 2 for 7 years and have started suppression therapy on Valtrex for 6 months to prevent transmission to a new partner. It seems like i have way more outbreaks taking valtrex daily compared to in the past where i would take it just for an outbreak i would get maybe once a year. Has anyone else reported this? Should i stop taking it daily?

Hello, I have oral HSV1 and want to take something daily to help prevent outbreaks and to keep virus at bay. I have a prescription for valtrex, but usually only take when i have an outbreak. Should I take that everyday? Any thoughts on Red Algae or Lysine.. has anyone had success with these? Would anyone recommend to take daily? Also, have been ready about a new light therapy called virulite, anyone heard of this?

I am trying to figure out how to minimize outbreaks (I seem to get one after every infusion) I am currently on generic valtrex which I had only been taking for outbreaks. I looked up the standard dosing for prevention of outbreaks but that doesnt seem to keep them at bay either. I cant stop getting th remicade so are there any suggestions as to what I can do?
