I forgot to add that I have never had a breakout/rash. There is one cut that always appears and goes away with medication. I get it every month, since being diagnosed 4 months ago :( Not too bad, but I have a partner and want to do everything in my power to stop risk of spreading.

valtrex and acyclovir have the same basic side effects. Valtrex is turned into acyclovir inside the body.

Since I started taking the medication I feel an upset stomach, bloating and gas daily with some gastrointestinal upset. Can I expect these side effects to decrease as I continue to take the medication? Thanks again.

Some folks do have pain from valtrex and getting less acyclovir in the actual acyclovir pill controls your herpes without causing you as many side effects. You were given a higher dose of valtrex than you needed to initially treat your herpes and if you are sensitive to it, might take you a bit to get past the side effects. You only ever needed 1 gm twice a day initially. recurrences are treated with 500mg twice a day for 3 days. so what do you do now? well the choice is yours.

I started suppression famciclovir over the weekend and had diahhrria 5 times the next day. Has this happend to anyoone else? Please share your side effects of any other meds or meds that gave no side effects. I have to call the doc and get something else.

I would only take Valtrex as needed, not everyday. I took it everyday for a little over a year and now I have elevated liver enzymes which is listed as one of the side affects. My doctor told me that it's the Valtrex because my liver was perfect prior to taking it and I rarely drink. I'm hoping my liver is not permanently damaged but only inflamed.

My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it. Anyone else have similar experience or advice? Thanks!

The side effects are too severe to continue on Valtrex. Dr. said to try acyclovir, but research shows it has the same ingredients only in lower milligram strength. Has anyone, who couldn't tolerate Valtrex, have success with acyclovir?

is this an unlisted side effect of Valtrex or could it be the virus becoming active and the medication treating/preventing a full outbreak? Nothing seems to help except time, however if it is a side effect I would like to stop taking the medication daily because it is SO UNCOMFORTABLE.

there are no long term side effects to taking the medication. Her smoking will do far more harm to her than valtrex ever could in the long run. Your risk of contracting hsv2 from her is overall very low to begin with. Suppressive therapy just puts the odds more and more in her favor.

Since your panic attacks are happening less, are the headaches numerous and a reason that you cannot take the medication anymore? Or are some of the side effects okay with you now that your anxiety is much better? What does your prescribing doctor say about this? Headaches can also be caused by an endless number of factors in my opinon. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you still under a lot of stress? The point is, that the headaches may not even be related to the medication itself.

Glad to hear that the Valtrex and TYsabri will play nicely together :-) As to what side effects I had with Tysabri, in a word, none! I had absolutely zero side effects from Tysabri.
