I went to labcorp to get fully tested for STDs. Everything came back negative except herpes 2. My results were HSV 1 <0.09 and HSV 2 1.23. The Lapcorp used the Simplex 2 Igg Herpes Select Test. I have read that this could be a false negative but more likely if the HSV 1 came up positive. I have made an appointment with my GYN. Am I silly to have hope that this may be a false negative?
I was wondering if I can receive oral sex if I have herpes type 2. I'm taking suppressive therapy (generic of valtrex 3 times a,day). Can I still give it to him??????
I started taking Valtrex for Herpes2, and I feel anxious,depressed, and I have been waking up with bad headaches in the middle of the night. I don't know if it is all in my head, because I just tested postive for this, and I have been dealing with this for about 15 yrs. I am still shocked. I have been to several doctors who blew it off as a yeast infection. Does anyone know of any alternatives that work?
I was married and only been with my spouse as partner for 2 years at this point in time. Previous to marriage I was celibate for 2 years but had had a few other partners for 13 years previous to celibacy. My spouse had been sexually active pretty much right up to meeting me and then we did not have sex together until marriage, about 9 months after meeting. I had no idea what the itching/burning was and I do not believe I had any other flu like symptoms but I may have.
Taking Valtrex for 2 years huh. I'm completely against using prescription drugs as I don't have much faith in drugs companies and the health factor of the long term effects. Is Valtrex really helping? How many partners have you had since your initial outbreak and have any contracted the disease (granted that you've told them). Personally it's so hard to tell people b/c this is the ultimate skeleton in my closet.
I was tested for everything else and came back negative. (The IgG results negative for both hsv-1 and hsv-2 at 3 weeks post exposure). On 12/16, my primary care physician diagnosed me with hsv-2 based on visual inspection. She prescribed Valtrex. The ulcers cleared in about a week. I had night sweats on 12/16. Test results from 12/16 visit - HSV- 2 IgG positive at 1.4 and HSV-1 negative 0.3. I went to a specialist who tested me again at and the results came back as HSV-2 IgG 1.
Thank you for your response. It was not itchy just burning...it is now 25 days and the symptoms have subsided quite a bit. I only feel pressure when I am sitting ..I do sit for long periods of time...the back of my thighs burn. Slightly when I sit..the small red dots have somewhat lessened...maybe foliculites.
1hat do you think maybe causing my lymph gland to swell slightly?
The stress of this is awful....I did go to a Doctor and he saw no visible signs...he also took bloos igm and igg test...

Concerning my recent HSV 2:
For about 3 months now i've had these 2 small rashes on my shaft...maybe the size of 2 small pencil erasers side by side....completely flat, and with a border...and hard to notice unless you look for it....
I have been on valtrex for suppression of hsv 2 for 16yrs and continue to have outbreaks almost monthly. Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it.
Anyway I went to ER and they gave me some valtrex. For the next 4 weeks I was a pretty high dose of valtrex (3000 mg for 1 week) then around 2000mg a day for 3 weeks. During this time I had achey feeling in my lower back and nervy pain in the head and around the top of my penis shaft. No visible lesions. After 4 weeks I got tested again and was negative.
Which test should I believe? Could my symptoms have been psychosomatic?
After thinking about it around 12 hours later I realized I was at risk for infection. I took 1500 MG of Valtrex and will continue with 1000MG twice a day for a few more days. It makes some sense that the Valtrex could interfere with the HSV1 virus spreading from the initial infection sight to the nerves if you have Valtrex in your system prior to of soon after an initial exposure. Does anyone have any insight?
Grace, I was diagnosed w/ GH-HSV-2 by type specific IgG test in May of this year. I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
m sure the first doctor I saw did swabs for herpes. I then asked him if I could get a blood test for HSV-2. Since I live in British Columbia, there is no type specific test and the test for HSV-2 is $130. I decided to get the test done and pay $130. Blood results should be back in a week and swabs should be in on Monday. So what if they both come out negative? What could this be?
Long story short, but I've been having sex with one partner for about a month now.
If she did get HSV 2 orally, she could definitely take Valtrex to reduce the symptoms and shorten the duration of her outbreak. The dose to treat recurrent cold sores is 2 grams of Valtrex, then 12 hours later, another 2 grams. But that's recurrent disease, not first episode oral infection. We have no studies on that, but if it was my patient that acquired first episode HSV 2 orally, I would treat with the genital herpes first episode dosing - 1 gram twice a day for 10 days.
