My wife has genital herpes and is treated daily with Valtrex and she has been outbreak free for well over a year. We have been together for 3 years and have never used condoms and I am still Herpes free. My questions deal with the possibility of contracting Genital Herpes when there is no outbreak. 1) What is the risk of contracting Genital Herpes between outbreaks through oral sex? 2) What is the risk of spreading the condition to others by giving or recieving oral sex between outbreaks?

t need to take suppressive therapy because they do not have frequent outbreaks (some only have a few during their life), but I suppose if you were having symptoms, Valtrex could help. You should discuss this with a herpes-knowlegeable provider.

I've read some posts on the internet that someone with a healthy immune system is less likely to have outbreaks is there any truth to that? Should I take immune system boosters? I have HSV2 and have never officially had an outbreak but have neuralgia on the back of my leg. I started taking Valtrex a couple months after the leg pain continued and it went away. I'm just trying to make sure I am taking all the precautions on my part to avoid spreading and having any recurring symptoms.

Hi, I read that Valtrex prevents herpes replication. Would this medicine have any use in preventing possible infection of the ganglion? For instance, lets say you take Valtrex before or right after a sexual encounter or possible exposure. Would the medicine stop the replication of the virus inside your skin/body and prevent it from taking up a permanent home inside the ganglion?

If using soap and water after sex does not decrease chances of it spreading, then how come everywhere says to make sure you wash your hands with hot soap and water in order to prevent it from spreading to other parts of your body? In theory, wouldn't a shower work in somewhat of the same way?? Are the statistics I hear correct??

I just recently told my sex partner I had herpes after two and half years. We've only had sex six times. the last three times unprotected so I've been extremely paranoid about spreading it to him. I'm confused as to what types of herpes you have, so I'm breaking this down. You can receive oral sex if you have hsv1 only- though keep in mind that you can get gonorrhea and syphilis from that. Even without having had an outbreak, there is a chance you could transmit it giving oral or kissing someone. If your partner has hsv1, it's VERY unlikely you'd ever transmit it to them.

But is worried which I totally understand my question is that I have taken valtrex during an outbreak is it possible for me to take to lower my chance of spreading it to him? Also can he take it as well?? He does not have herpes and we want to be as safe and Cautious as possible to prevent spreading to him. I tested 16 weeks post exposure with herpes select and the results were .19 for hsv2. I fear that I can not trust these results because I was on Valtrex at the time as well. I was only on Valtrex about 7 days after this incident. I am concerned I have hsv2 because my lips weep yellow crust and tingle when I am stressed and I have genital puss filled bumps on my buttocks that a doctor at planned parenthood told me was just pimples.

I am in the midst of an outbreak that really has me baffled. It began with a cold sore that would not go away. At the end of the second week with this cold sore I broke out in the target lesions on my fingers that rapidly spread throughout my hands, then feet, knees & elbows.

I immediately took Valtrex. On day 7 of my course of Valtrex, the sore was still there, and still, clearly active and I began to feel tingling on the side of my mouth, around my mouth, inside it. My diet has to rid itself of oatmeal, orangejuice, bananas, nuts, white flour, sugar, chocolate and anything else that has a high dose of arginine ratio to lysine. Yet I ned the oatmeal to keep cholesteral in check and OJ for vitamin C yet work around everything else. If indeed there is a merit to lysine vs arigine ratio to consider.
