It was on both sides of my body, especially on the entirety of my hands. I took another Valtrex and by this morning the shingles were all but gone.
Could the herpes have triggered the shingles? Or could it have been a weird "last throes" outbreak of herpes? Or just a very strange coincidence?
I am going soon to get a more accurate blood test.

Since contracting HSV2 in August 2013, I have been in constant nerve pain in my butt, balls, left leg and now my left foot. I have been in this pain since I have been infected but with very limited OB's although it does ebb occasionally, but it's never gone. Since I haven't had any of this pain before August, I am attributing it to HSV2. Has anyone had a Shingles vaccine or thought of that. Would it help with the nerve pain? Aren't Shingles and HSV virtually the same.

I posted last week about this awful what I thought was a herpes breakout. I am in severe pain on the left side of my labia and even my clitoris hurts. I have HSV2 and have went on maintenance therapy about a month ago. Normally, one pill of valtrex would knock HSV2 dead in it's tracks. My skin down there is super sensitive to the touch where my underwear and pants rub it's almost unbearable.
He visually looked at it and right away he said it was shingles and that was before my blood test. I am probably going to go back and talk with him and have a culture done. i have only had this on my back and that is it, never a cold sore nor on the genital area. My boyfriend of 3 years just received a letter from a unknown female that he had sex with in the last 5 years that she had HSV-1 and that he could possibly have both.
m a 74 year old female who had a bout of Herpes Zoster in April of 2007 which lasted about 3 months or more. Was put on Valtrex for about 10 days and recovered. My question is, would it be ok for me to receive the new vacine for shingles??? My primary care doctor advised me not to receive the vaccine since I already had the shingles, but I have read and heard from others that I should get the vaccine because it could return. I hope you can advise me concerning this problem.
i had it about 1 year ago,i had it on my back it hurt like hell,i just put it down 2 my back is playing up again then my husband had a look and told me to go see my doctor and she told me i had shingles and yea ive got hep c,it didnt do anything to my hep it took 12 weeks till it was gone.i got heaps of cream and bath stuff 2 stop the itchy and i took the tablets that my doctor gave me.i dont ever want that again.
Since Saturday I have also went to my dermatologist and to a local STD clinic and they all said it was Shingles as well. Is there anything that can differentiate between Zoster and Simplex in the sacral region other than a swab. None of my blisters have opened up and the one's on my penis have actually turned into scabs. The rash on my cheek and thigh still remain but no blisters.
Last Friday I woke up in excruciating pain, went to Doctor B) Family Practicioner - Couldnt get an appointment with a dermatologist. I did some research on dermatological conditions and and Shingles fit the description. Doctor B) didn't know what it was. He was perplexed. When I mentioned Shingles, he mentioned ok that is what I think it is. It kind of made sense.

Oh wow, I didn't know that shingles causes muscle spasms! I had shingles on my arm last year after I was diagnosed with FM. What lead them to finding it in your ear canal (that's amazing). The Valtrex and whatever else should take care of it within a week or 2 but I don't know that there's much you can do about the muscle spasms.
Diagnosed with shingles Wednesday night - went to doctor same day symptoms started as they were significant. Started Valtrex. Have bumps on lower back near sciatic nerve on left side and on left thigh following nerve line. Entire thigh dull to touch but high pain (throbbing, etc). Pain on site at back. Also high pain, burning on left hip, stomach, behind knee. Friday morning noticed third patch of bumps on thigh (more inward) and an increase of bumps on first set of thigh bumps.
Today the rash is worse and now there is some on my tummy. I phoned the clinic and the nurse said it sounded like shingles. Has anyone else had a rash with a miscarriage? I guess it could be co-incidence or one has caused the other or something. At least that explains the weird pain which I thought was a very odd pain for a miscarriage.
I'm not sure if we will try again as I'm 41 and it seems all very hard to think about going through this all again.
I am also 23 and I had shingles when I was 19. Its an adult form of the chicken pox and I know it hurts like hell. Unfortunately it will last for a month after you start your meds. You should see another doctor because if in fact you have shingles, it's a virus like the chicken pox, and antibotics won't do anything. You need a viral med. I was prescribed valtrex.
However, I did as the docotr ordered and took Valtrex 3 times a day for a week. The sore went away within a couple of days.
Just over a month later I had the same outbreak on my upper arm, went to a different doctor and he said it was a cold sore. He prescribed Valtrex twice a day for one day, which I did but then noticed another breakout just above the one present, so I upped the dosage of the Valtrex and it went away.
Husband got a rash two months ago that did not ooze or hurt (just some light itching). Just before Thanksgiving his rheumatologist took a quick look and said it was shingles because of the pattern of the rash, and gave him Valtrex. The rash has not gone away, but has spread. It still does not hurt, so he thinks it is not shingles but has not gone to a dermatologist. ( finally agreed to try to make an appointment, but now can’t get one till after Christmas.
I am a 25 year old female. I have been having an outbreak on my forehead and scalp almost every year since I was about 12 of what was initially diagnosed as impetigo and later as shingles. Every time I have an outbreak I take valtrex and use zovirax cream and it clears right up. It isn't as painful as most people's so I considered myself lucky. My mother has recurring shingles as well. Also, I am a lesbian. I have NEVER had sex or oral sex with a male.
