Hi, having a positive swab for shingles you would need to have a separate blood test for shingles as its not hsv. Taking meds would not turn a positive into a negative.

In my country Valtrex is not licensed for suppression of zoster. You are taking the dose that suppresses the majority (but not all )of simplex outbreaks. The dose to treat zoster is higher than the dose to treat simplex, so I am guessing that the dose to suppress zoster may be higher than the dose to suppress simplex. You might discuss with your docs whether you could try 500mg twice daily.

m getting ready for an OB. Have taken 1G Valtrex twice a day for a week and all I got was a tremendous headache. No relief from the constant nerve pain in my leg or rear so apparently Valtrex doesn't work for me.

I took Vatlrex 500mg twice daily for 20 days. While on Valtrex I had tingling and itchy sensations on my face. Stopped taking Valtrex because it cause burning patches around my mouth. A month in he got what the doctors thought could be shingles and gave him a script for Valtrex. Was prescribed Valtrex for about 10 days. All this was taken cared of any shingles eliminated. i have been taking Concerta the past two months, a month ago i contracted herpes zoster. I am worried that the medication could have been the cause I started on 18 mg and then moved up to 36 which is around the time i got the herpes. should i be worried?.

I was like you got to be kidding me right, I told them that the rash turned into blisters and hurt like no other. That I had been taking Valtrex for 3 days now and it seems to be getting better but I still have the pain.

m taking one loratab 10 in the morning around 7 and then one around 12 or 1 in the afternoon , I also take valtrex for the shingles and lysine to help with the shingles also. I take ambien at night to help me sleep. I just don't want to take the pain meds anymore, but ever time I try and quit I can feel my body go into the freaked out shut down mode and I break out in the worst case of shingles.

I get a herpes out break when I stress real bad well I had an out break when I was on treatment for Hep C and it was a shingles outbreak and it hurt real bad and it was in my face but it dont break out to bad. But recently I had a herpies outbreak on my lower back where I usuall get it when I stress a lot.
