valtrex

535882 tn?1396576685 Take the dose you plan on using as your maintenance dose for six months. Then, get tested again. If it goes down significantly, it's not enough. If it stays close to the same, it is the right amount. If it goes up too high (most of us won't have that issue, but it does happen), then you're in a different category all together and will have to stop for a while, then get tested again until the levels normalize again.
Avatar n tn t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
Avatar m tn the problem is, his symptoms keep disappearring and reoccurring, despite taking a very high amount of Valtrex (1-2 grams twice daily while having symptoms) and even a maintenance dose in between (1 gram daily). This last time, he had prostatitis in addition, which I read can also be a secondary infection with Herpes. He saw his urologist for that and was put on antibiotics which seemed to work. he hasn't been officially diagnosed yet for HSV2 because he never had sores present.
Avatar m tn I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?
Avatar f tn I have been in mmtp for almost 2 years now. I was on a fixed dose of 70mgs for a while and then found out I was pregnant. Further into your pregnancies you need to increase your dose cuz you get less and less due to the baby. Well i went up to 115 and wanted to detox asap! I managed to come straight down to 56 mgs 2mgs a day. Now the trouble begins. My husband is in Iraq soon to be home in 6 wks or so. I would like to be off the ball and chain (methadone) for good by the time he comes home.
Avatar m tn aspx In evaluating the use of maintenance therapy, the HALT-C trial failed to show a benefit of long-term, low-dose peginterferon maintenance therapy in patients with advanced fibrosis and clinically compensated liver disease.
6286112 tn?1380058016 m positive for oral herpes antibodies, so she prescribes me a daily maintenance dose of valacyclovir 1g. It didn't take long for the next breakout to happen so now I'm off those drugs. Next she says it looks like impetigo and prescribes me more antibacterials. I had a dermatologist appointment the next day(today) so I decided to hold off on the antibacterials based on what my doctor suggested.
Avatar m tn 5,000iu is closer to a maintenance dose. If you take too low of a dose your D3 levels will drop within a month or two. Even if there is sunshine, the UVB rays needed to convert D3 in your body aren't available in Ohio until Spring. Very good you're at 64ng/mL now!!
1948474 tn?1329154264 when someone is starting a methadone maintenance program, how long does it take or become stable? my boyfriend started about a month ago but has been changing mgs often. he says to stabilize himself.
Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar m tn 1) I have the beginnings of a cold sore on the lip. For Valacyclovir and Valtrex the recommended dosage is 2000mg every 12 hours...total of 4000mg in 24 hours. I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest.
Avatar f tn Speak with your doctor about increasing the dose or perhaps switching to valacyclovir, which gives higher blood levels and sometimes is more effective than acyclovir.
Avatar m tn you can either split your pills in half and take 500mg 2x/day for 3 days or you can just take the 2gm 2x/day for 1 day dose and then go back to your 1gm daily suppressive dose - totally up to you.
1390055 tn?1365615055 But I first remember when I was diagnosed with HSV-2 the person who diagnosed me put me on 500mg tablets 3 times a day because he thought I was in outbreak, and then I was just on it once a day for maintenance following the 7 day course of 3 a day. Would it be a good idea to be using this 3 times a day if I get an outbreak? Or would that be overkill?
Avatar n tn By the way, the currently recommended treatment for recurrent oral herpes is only 2 large doses of valacyclovir (2 grams), 12 hours apart. In fact, you probably could even skip the second dose; just one 2 gram dose probably would do it.
Avatar m tn Help with methadone maintenance I don't want to be tied up any more with my daily visits to my clinic. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?
1106988 tn?1455713761 Just wondering how much most people have ended up taking as a maintenance dose. I have been taking 1.5 of the 90 mg tablets per day, but now I realize I need more since my outer eyebrows are going away again.
Avatar f tn But is 500mg of valacyclovir a day a good dose for suppression?

Avatar m tn I am also hearing from you that, while taking the valacyclovir, if I were to miss a dose accidentally then I should probably also avoid sex for a week because there might be some rebound in viral shedding. No need for further reply unless you have additional opinions.
Avatar m tn consistent condom use; and taking anti-herpes suppressive therapy like valacyclovir. Genital to oral transmission is uncommon, but could occur. However, if it's HSV-1, the risk of transmission (for either genital or oral sex) probably is quite low. Also, has your partner been tested to determine for sure whether she has genital herpes? She could be tested to learn whether she is susceptible to HSV-1 or HSV-2, or perhaps previously infected and therefore immune to a new infection.
Avatar m tn He went on methadone maintenance in July and it has taken him to his worst depths. He is still shooting drugs, is addicted to XANAX and anxiety pills. He will take a whole bottle at a time and is also drinking regularly. He has been hospitalized twice in the last month, picked up by police multiple times and has been near death at times. He is completely out of his mind.
Avatar f tn I believe (though I could be wrong) valacyclovir is the only drug that is approved by the FDA for suppressive therapy, because it's the only drug that has had an FDA registered clinical trial performed for this purpose. However, it is well documented that valtrex and acyclovir perform very similarly. Valtrex is actually converted into acyclovir by the liver, so essentially, the two drugs act the same way in the body to suppress the virus.
Avatar m tn A doctor at the VA diagnosed you with this and prescribes your medication. The maintenance dose of Humira is typically 40 mg after the starting regime that is often higher doses. Are you still having symptoms at your maintenance dose? https://www.drugs.com/dosage/humira.
