9668401 tn?1405176684 Self medicating for mental illness is a serious problem i think b/c of the stigma that goes with mental illness and addiction! Cunning, baffling and powerful! It reminds me that i need to work my program EVERY DAY!
Avatar f tn Its not ur friends fault (well it is in a way cuz she started using drugs) but an addiction is an addiction and itll be her long life battle for the rest of her days. Even if shes clean shes always going to have to fight it. Its like alcoholism, same same same idea! Shes certainly taking the right step but she really should of thought of this Way before this far in her pregnancy. Everything shows up in babys first bowel movement....

424839 tn?1268186246 Several Days of Drug Use The next most severe type of relapse is when the patient resumes drug use for several days, and the use is associated with some of the signs and symptoms of addiction. In such a case, the counselor probably would want to intensify treatment temporarily, which can be effective. We have found that intensified contact will usually reinstitute abstinence.

Avatar m tn Never really an addictive drug to me but it sure did lead to some of the worst mistakes of my life which is the addiction to pain killers. Now I just get panic attacks when I smoke it and that never happened until the pain pills came around. I dont think its alright cause of the gate way effect which is so true.
17365575 tn?1456040685 I am checking in on you and read my post. It was pretty bad. Sorry. All I wanted to say was this. It is not only hard but dangerous to stop taking Lyrica suddenly. Taper slowly until you are taking almost none and feel okay, then quit. Opiates (pain meds and heroin) are talked about often on this site. It is hell to get off of these drugs but the way to do it is much different from GABA drugs (bezos like klonopin and Xanax).
1576513 tn?1327896759 t get it where he lives so he takes morphine. He told me the whole event of taking the drugs is addictive, not just the drug itself. He is withdrawing on his own with no medication, only panadol, no help and no one caring for him. My uncle, his dad, refuses to acknowledge as his son. Not because he has a addiction but because he is gay. That is so wrong.
Avatar m tn The best thing to do is see a psychiatrist as he is most knowledgeable when it comes to these types of medications and what would be best for you. Think about therapy as well, this can be a big help with social anxiety. Take care...
483733 tn?1326798446 There is a lot of misconception about pain medication and addiction. Short term use of pain medication under the care of a physician is not even in the addiction ballpark. I have been on long term pain management for a failed spinal surgery and know a lot about this subject.
Avatar m tn I am sorry but we do not answer these types of questions in this community. this is for those who are struggling with addiction issues and seek help off and staying off of drugs. You may want to speak with the people who administered the test. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Oh no discussions are good. There are so many factors as to why some can walk away from using drugs and others can't. I don't really know if there's a way to pin down exactly what the cause of addiction is. Genetics, environment, Brain chemistry, mental illness, personality types, depression, snxiety, no sense of belonging, or for a sense of belonging aka "community", Csn keep adding to the lust.
Avatar f tn Then go from there, I have had plenty of friends and family and even i was on drugs for years and would have that cycle of relapse, and Ive been drug free for two years !!! I can never see myself EVER going back and that was because I actually had help to fully "recover" with counsalers ect.
1000946 tn?1253807847 I was curious as to what type of medication everyone is taking. I've taken all sorts of anti depressants and meds like lyrica (think these are anti seizure meds) nothing has helped. When I took the vicoden for pain that seemed to be the only thing that helped. I am on no meds at the present time but I'm having a major flare. What is helping other fibro sufferers?
Avatar n tn Just as physical health is important, so is good mental health. Still, millions of Americans suffer with various types of mental illness and mental health problems, such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction to drugs and alcohol, and personality disorders. Mental illness and psychological disorders have good treatment options with medications, psychotherapy, or other treatments.
Avatar m tn your mom seems to be dealing with chronic pain. as a hazard of treating chronic pain, there is always the very real risk of addiction. in a true chronic pain sufferer, addiction may be someone one just has to learn to manage rather than conquer. ultimately the best thing to do would be to work closely with someone who deals with chronic pain and have every test in the book done. find doctors who specialize in migraines.
Avatar f tn ve tried going to a doctor for help and he said I was depressed we tried many many different types of treatments but non worked I can't get my self under control I'm losing my best friend and husband and I'm coming close to relapsing. After two years of being clean.

4412236 tn?1354208664 There is a lot of violence that comes with your partner's drugs of choice, and a lot of unsavory characters that can cause you problems. It is your job to deal with this as your children's protector. Loving him means little, it won't save you from the type of aggression that could be in store for your family if you allow him back.
Avatar f tn I started with Xanax and other nerve pills in high school, then after I quit abusing those, I began my addiction to cocaine. After a short while of living clean, I found crack cocaine and was addicted to that for over 3 years. I once again became clean and now I have found myself abusing codeine and oxycodone. The crack cocaine has also made another appearance in my life, recently.
