1341894 tn?1276125780 I don't know anything about Agent Orange and diabetes. Perhaps you can do a search on it. I also belong to a website with 15,000 members and if you send me a private message I'll give you that site as there are many more diabetics (and the people they may know) that might have some information. As for your type> Type 2 diabetes does not " turn into" Type 1.
148588 tn?1465778809 Nearly every spring new names are etched into the black granite walls of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., which pays tribute to the more than 58,000 service members who lost their lives. Jim McGough is one of them. As a 19-year-old infantry soldier in 1971, Army Specialist McGough was with members of his unit near the Laotian border when came under fire. A grenade exploded nearby, tearing apart his feet and lower legs.
Avatar f tn He was given chemo treatments and after a courageous battle he died in april of 2010. He served in vietnam as a helicopter gunner from 1964 until 1965. In your medical opinion is there any correlation between the brain tumor and agent orange.

636290 tn?1224186146 Any Veterans out there who have won any type of case against the government on contracting Hep C from airjet guns or oral surgery? I am Vietnam era vet (of course did not see combat as women were not allowed at that time). I am putting in a claim against the government and would like to know if others have done the same. Any takers?
636290 tn?1224186146 Around the same time the same thing was happening In Canada which resulted in a class action lawsuit against Canadian Red Cross and gov in the 90's. Canada govt. apologized to the people and gave each a settlement of around $80,000. Unfortunately, it's different here in the US. I know of one case that was tried in Louisiana holding a hospital liable for transfusion of HCV.
Avatar f tn We (the USA) are currently trying to wind down several wars. And from these Wars we have a lot of Veterans returning from overseas. My initial thoughts go something like this - "Well, at least it isnt like Vietnam days" - But then I remember that we have lost more Troops stateside from suicide than we even lost to the enemy in this conflict. The jobless rate for Veterans is double that of the general population. And PTSD is making its vicious presence felt daily.
739070 tn?1338603402 For all who have served in the military forces, thank you for your service to your country. We are forever indebted to you.
Avatar f tn As a combat veteran of two tours in Vietnam with twenty-two years of service as a Republican member of the U.S. House and Senate, I endorse President Barack Obama for a second term as our Commander-in-Chief. Candidates publicly praise our service members, veterans and their families, but President Obama supports them in word and deed, anywhere and every time.
900662 tn?1469390305 Yes, thank you to all the veterans. My dad served for 22 yrs in the Army. Then he became a victim to Agent Orange.
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
1253246 tn?1332073310 Many personnel were involved in recreational drugs with drugs which as heroin and cocaine. Although usually smoked in Vietnam if they had a habit when they returned to the US the use of needles become the common means of taking the drugs. While there is the possibility that HCV was spread through vaccinations it is only speculation. While there were other known means of transmission as I pointed out above.
Avatar m tn The oft-cited National Vietnam Veterans’ Readjustment Study concluded that nearly one-third of Vietnam veterans have had PTSD at some point in their lives. Researchers have estimated that about 30 percent of the 2.5 million troops who have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from PTSD. The psychological effects of combat have long been a silent plague throughout the country, crippling families and robbing communities of their greatest citizens.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with type 2 hcv, and will start treatment in 2 days. I have seen three different specialists in the last 6 yrs and all three have made the statement that hcv 2 is not common in the U. S. So where is it common?? I have been told I've had the virus for 30 yrs or more. In that time frame I was stationed in korea and vietnam, is hcv2 prevelant in these countrys?? While there many people were diagnosed with hep, but nothing was known about hcv2 in those days.
Avatar f tn 2 million surviving Vietnam veterans who were in Asia during Vietnam Conflict. A conservative estimate is that 10 percent--320,000--of these veterans are now infected with HCV." http://www.heathersveterans.org/hepatitis.htm Keep in mind that there are about 40% of people (depending on whose figures you read) who have no idea how they got Hepatitis C. Just ask your doctor for a Hepatitis panel. Any lab can draw it.
148588 tn?1465778809 "Five of the seven commissioners backing the shutdown of VA health care are Republican appointees, including all three named by former House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio before he resigned last year. Concerned Veterans for America, the group advised by Selnick, is a lobbying group largely funded by the billionaire Koch brothers that seeks to cut budgets and responsibilities of the VA." http://www.military.
Avatar f tn Hi Kate, Although sexual transmission is rare, it does happen. Was your husband ever tested for hepatitis c? Many Vietnam veterans were infected with Hepatitis C through blood transfusions and just exposure to others blood in combat. You should contact your doctor and schedule a Hepatitis C test as soon as possible. With your symptoms I find it odd that the doctor did not test you for this already.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type one and the daughter of a type 2. In a type one diabetic commonly called Juvenile diabetes( because it usually is diagnoses in children , but I know people that were in they 30's and 40's and were diagnosed) is when the body stop s producing insulin. Type 2 diabetics your body still produces insulin, but cannot use it properly use the insulin without help of medication.
Avatar n tn Is there a syndrome/symptom of depression showing up in Vietnam War era military personnel who did not participate in the War directly? I served in the Air Force from 1964-1985 and had strong feelings about the war while it was happening and some of them continue to this day. I cannot seem to hear, see, or read anything about the war-time experiences of my fellow vetereans without having tears well up.
