Common Questions and Answers about Type 2 diabetes blood levels

diabetes

Avatar m tn I never noticed any increased levels in my blood glucose levels tho. Try one for a day or two, monitor your levels and see if they affect anything. Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.

Avatar n tn Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease. Even if you're in remission, which means you aren't taking medication and your blood sugar levels stay in a healthy range, there's always a chance that symptoms will return.

Avatar f tn Usually, when extra weight is a factor, the reason for type 2 diabetes is high levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides in the blood (they interfere with glucose absorption in muscle cells). The only sure way to lower the levels of fatty acids and triglycerides in the blood is to get rid of excess body fat. Then muscle cells will be able to feed on glucose unimpeded and this will lead to its lower level in the blood.
Avatar f tn I just realized that I haven't seen my diabetes specialist in about three years. On my last visit she "discharged" me to the care of my internist. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago, at age 62. My glucose levels are stable at around 110, hB!ac 5.9. I've recently lost 25 kg, do some mild exercise and feel good. I'm taking metformin twice a day (750 mg).
Avatar m tn As your mother was diagnosed at one year of age with type 2 diabetes? Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes), which is an autoimmune disease, sounds more likely. Are you sure the diagnosis is correct? Most children who have type 2 diabetes have a family history of diabetes, are overweight, not very physically active and it usually develops around puberty. Tablets are not suitable for type 1 diabetics. Insulin injections are given daily or several times a day depending on the type of insulin used.
1538715 tn?1294146016 Researchers know from studying family histories that you can inherit a risk for Type 2 diabetes. And, yes, a type 2 gene can bypass your siblings and you get stuck with it - It happens. What also happens is you subconsciously picked up your parents bad habits that led to their diabetes. Bottom line, go get tested - an A1c, OGTT, and/or a fasting glucose test.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 6 months ago and placed on Metformin 500mg twice a day. Within 30 days I was experiencing frequent nausea (with no vomiting). My MD thought it might be caused by Metformin so he changed to Glucotrol XL 10mg twice a day. For a few days it appeared to work, but the nausea returned and seem to get worse. I had been doing a very poor job of controling what I eat. Could my nausea be caused by high blood sugar ?

Avatar m tn I have recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, my fasting blood sugar was 175. I am sure that these are on the higher side of the scale. My doctor adviced me to go retest after 2 weeks of exercise and strict diet control. Hence i completely changed my diet, no sugar, substantial decrease of carbs, relying on vegetables and sprouts or protein contents with additon to the 5-6 KM of walking. After two weeks when i went on re test, it was 140 on fasting. I have not used any medicine.

Avatar f tn Normal levels 70-99 mg/dl Prediabetes 100-125 mg/dl Above 126 mg/dl indicate diabetes [hyperglycemia aka Type 2 diabetes] If your fasting levels returns below 70 mg/dl this indicates hypoglycemia [aka Type 1 diabetes]. 2.) OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] - You drink a sugary liquid then tested in 1 hour intervals. This test is given to see how well your body sheds excess glucose after 1, 2 and 3 hours. 3.) RGT [Random Glucose Test] - Tested at any given time.

Changing dietary habits is crucial to doing well: specific things to avoid include regular sodas, sweet drinks such as sweetened tea and juices, cakes, cookies, candies etc. Try to keep carbohydrates(starches) more complex instead of simple, for instance wheat bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white.
Avatar n tn This is double normal for people without diabetes. Complications are known to start with consistently raised blood sugars above normal. I would also suggest you learn more about using insulin and use your insulin to get normal blood sugar levels. Fasting < 95 (range ideally 70 - 90), post eating < 120 (ideally < 95 (ie. similar to fasting levels). Please let us know how you go and also ask questions.
