Avatar m tn Rather than watch your blood sugar tests, watch the weight scale and eat healthy, clean. Metformin is given to type 2 diabetes that do not control blood sugar with exercise. Eat less, exercise more to burn up the layers of fat in your muscles and belly fat. High blood sugars tend to go up after exercise due to muscles and liver releasing stored glycogen. Increasing metformin is not the solution, rather exercise more and eat less.

Avatar n tn The fasting number 109 indicates that you are pre-diabetic, most like a type 2.The cold fact about pre-diabetic 2 is like a little pregnant, you will become a full blown diabetic 2 in 2, 6.. years from now. It depends on what foods , what drinks you will consume. If I were you, I would read this book:Diabetes Solution by DR. Richard Beirstein. It will tell what foods to avoid..
Avatar n tn Therefore, at the very least, if you keep up your current exercise regimen, you can pre-empt or prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes altogether. In addition, exercise does increase HDL levels but does nothing to reduce LDL levels. LDL levels are managed by diet; keep your saturated fats DOWN as far as possible: avoid cookies, red meat, and any other foods high in saturated fat. All this said, there is a genetic influence and correlation as far as type 2 diabetes goes.

Avatar f tn It is possible to have no symptoms of high blood sugar, but damage is occuring. For type 2 it is often possible to manage it with diet and exercise (low carb diet and plenty of exercise, plus getting to your optimal weight). However, you are still very young, so it would be a great idea to get some more monitorint for how you are doing. Let us know.
Avatar n tn My father has had diabetes for 35 years now. My blood sugar level is higher while fasting than during the day. I have lost about 25 pounds in the last 2 years, and watch what I am eating. I am scared that I will become diabetic too. Last night before going to bed my reading was 112, while this morning 128. Is that normal? Anyone can explain why the blood sugar level is higher in the morning? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Avatar m tn Hi I am a type 2 diabetic for about 8 years, the last couple of months my feet feel very tired,I wake up in the morning after 7-8 hrs. sleep and my legs feel tired like I walked 20 miles. Does anybody have the same problem as me,or can tell me what to do?
Avatar n tn something likee 1 unit of humalog for 40 g of protein (but you need to fine tune this for yourself). Testing and monitoring and adjusting insulin based on the blood sugar results will allow you to have better control of your blood sugar. But you also need to control what you eat, particularly the carbs.
1303999 tn?1279585526 Worked pretty well for me. Last week started on levothyroxine and now my blood sugar is through the roof. Anyone else have the same problems? It says I might have to alter my diabetes meds. If anyone is out there with the same thing can you recommend a medication that worked for you?
Avatar n tn I have an 11 year old daughter who has type 1 diabetes since the age of 2. Since the beginning of this summer we have been dealing with night time low blood sugar while she sleeps. Most of the time we catch it and give her something to correct it but more times than not 4 to be exact she has woke up in the morning feeling nauseated, headache and sometimes throwing up yet her bloods sugars are showing normal to the 200's when we test her. One of the times she had to go to the hospital.
1192309 tn?1264804832 I understand your weight loss might be from other illness but if you are average weight (and losing), if you were very sick at diagnosis and especially if you have another autoimmune disease such as thyroid, you might want to get your antibodies checked to make sure you are in fact type 2. Many of us were misdiagnosed type 2 purely by age and are in fact LADA/Type 1.5 which is a form of Type 1 with a slower onset. Worth getting tested for so you know how to treat correctly.
Avatar n tn Good afternoon. I have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes for about 5 years now...I think I had the problem well before that but I had a doctor who would never run the test (just lose some weight, etc). I'm not very good about keeping my levels under control because I get so discouraged that I just give up from time to time.
Avatar m tn You are right, Cat, there is a lot to learn about Type 2 diabetes. There are many many things you can eat and drink. Besides water you can drink the many kinds of sugar-free drinks, coffee, tea, even wine. The key is to find things you enjoy eating that are lower carb. Think of it as a challenge! Send me a PM if you want the name of a website with a lot more diabetics of both types and a separate forum on food.
Avatar f tn Hi Pleomorphism, Welcome to the Type 2 Diabetes forum on MedHelp and thanks for posting! I'm the community manager here at MedHelp. Our communities are now patient-to-patient communities. We no longer offer expert doctor advice. Our community members can provide advice from their own experience with Metformin, but we always recommend checking with a physician before making changes to any drug regimen. Thanks!

Avatar f tn We do know ALL carbohydrates raise BG (rice, pasta, potato, wheat, most fruit and sugar will raise BG) 2) exercise.. exercise uses the glucose in the blood and thereby lowers BG. I also tones up muscles, a toned up muscle uses more glucose at rest than a flabby one. so a toned muscle lowers BG. 3)medication Insulin is the medication of choice. Your diabetic that means your body is not controlling your BG as it should, so You have to. Your body uses insulin to control its BG.

1469903 tn?1286650297 Of all the patients with diabetes, only approximately 10% of the patients have type 1 diabetes and the remaining 90% have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was also referred to as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), or adult onset diabetes mellitus (AODM). In type 2 diabetes, patients can still produce insulin, but do so relatively inadequately for their body's needs, particularly in the face of insulin resistance as discussed above.
Avatar n tn I had eaten about 300 calories and 40 grams of carbs 2 hours before the workout after a blood sugar of 135. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Most GD cases the Dr will order a growth/measurement ultrasound to check the babies size. Sticking to an approved diet and monitoring your blood sugar levels are the most common ways to treat GD, but there are some cases in which tablets or insulin is needed. It is all about listening and doing as you medical care provider instructs you to do. I have GD and its given me the extra push to eat even healthier than I was.
Avatar n tn You must also realize that we type 1 folks are going to have wide variation at times in blood sugar numbers. The hemoglobin a1c is actually the best overall number to look at, for the average of all the daily glucose tests gives a better picture of whether you are damaging your body or not. An occasional high number is not going to harm you, nor is an occasional low number.
Avatar n tn My son had a 34-blood sugar last night at 2:30 am. It was pretty scary. He has had lows before, but never this low and he was shaking a lot and said that his brain was flickering. We managed to maintain it, but it is now 2pm in the afternoon and after we had gotten his blood sugar up it went to 395 and he would not eat because of the high. He took insulin without eating and still has not eaten. I am afraid he is going to have another low, please advise.
