diabetes

Avatar f tn This would involve evaluation of c-peptide, antibodies, and insulin levels correlated with blood sugar levels. Type 1 is lack of insulin (and needs injected insulin), Type 2 is plenty of insulin, but there is insulin resistance and the insulin is not effective. For Type 2, oral meds may be appropriate. If it is adult onset type 1, it may develop quickly. Therefore, I suggest your read up on syptoms of both type 1 and type 2 and if you develop symptoms then you must go to your Dr.

268033 tn?1270171467 Is my blood sugar high? Do I need to go back to the doctor and have him up my metformin? I don't want to be like this and I am worried sick about it. Please advise. Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn Lowering them will do more to prevent complications than anything else. 150 is not a low blood sugar for anyone, it's on the high side of normal. The symptoms you are feeling when your blood sugars get down to 150 may be related to your body adjusting to more normal blood sugars and away from the higher ones. Depending on how you are losing weight (diet and exercise versus some kind of drug or medication), it may be related to that, but it's hard to say without knowing the how.
1058898 tn?1275678751 told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. Avatar f tn Doctors never mentioned it then and I had no clue that was the case until my sports medicine doctor at the university I attend mentioned it during my yearly sports physical. She tested my blood sugar that day and it was high again, yesterday I did the glucose tolerance test and I am waiting for the results. I am not sure if I am over reacting or if it is valid to be worried. Has anyone here been diagnosed with diabetes with PCOS?

Avatar n tn My blood sugar is fasting level =82 mgdl,Sometimes the sugar level is increasing and have headache and depression. I mean the sugar level is going little higher as above the specified rate it will affect to the Kidney /heart deseas?
Avatar f tn It is possible to have no symptoms of high blood sugar, but damage is occuring. For type 2 it is often possible to manage it with diet and exercise (low carb diet and plenty of exercise, plus getting to your optimal weight). However, you are still very young, so it would be a great idea to get some more monitorint for how you are doing. Let us know.
1456043 tn?1285366131 If you have these high blood sugars ongoing for awhile you are at risk of DKA so if you begin to feel flu-like symptoms or vomiting you need to go to the ER. By the way you've posted in the Type 2 forum.
Avatar n tn Symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are the same -- excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue and unexplained weight loss after the blood sugar levels have been high for a period of time. These symptoms are caused by malfunctions of the pancreas, the organ that makes insulin available for your body in order to convert the carbohydrates you eat into energy.
1080243 tn?1262978963 You'll first experience signs and symptoms of high blood sugar or low blood sugar.
Avatar m tn 2hours late(aprox) symptoms came. FOrgot to mention , this only has been going on for 2 months. My father has type 2 diabetes, I am 33. is this early signs? I would appreciate an input in this situation.
390388 tn?1279639813 I would talk to your doctor about the blood pressure issue; most likely it is unrelated to your pre-diabetes. High blood sugar can produce various unpleasant feelings, though usually it is not felt until over 200. Most of us find symptoms of low blood sugar a lot stronger, so you might test when you experience those symptoms to see if you are low. 170 is too high 2 hours after lunch. You want to stay under 140 so you might need to reduce your intake of carbs.
Avatar n tn He has been doing very well but lately he brakes out in cold sweats. He checked his blood sugar when it happens but it was good. It has happen twice now in the last 2 weeks. What is the deal?????
Avatar m tn Hi, What were your sugars 5 years ago? You may have been prediabetic at that stage, and once prediabetic with no intervention, diabetes can progress fairly rapidly. Yes, certainly it is possible to go from no diabetes at year 0 to symptomatic diabetes 5 years later. Low carb diet, weight management, exercise, and medications would be combined for best management.
1554354 tn?1297175664 Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Often people with type 2 diabetes have no symptoms so they appear normal to others. I don't know Florida laws but in Calif at 19 yo you can see a doctor on your own. If you cannot afford one Google search Free Health Clinics near your town/city. In the meantime you must take care of your body by maintaining normal weight, avoiding sugary and high carbohydrate foods, and do some sort of physical exercise daily.
873325 tn?1295465496 It might be interesting to see when she spikes, (her highest number) for some people it is closer to one hour for others two, but testing sooner than that doesn't mean too much. Yes, I'm sure it was a blood test, but if it was just a random blood sugar it is pretty meaningless. The ones that determine diagnosis are either fasting (diabetes is 126 and over) and more commonly these days A1C which is an average of blood sugars for a period of about two months. (diabetes is over 6.5).
Business man2 Let us not forget Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lack of daily 30-60 exercise, and above all poor food choices. In its early stage it is possible to reverse diabetes. This does not mean you can ignore lifestyle changes by going back to the bad habits which created your diabetes, it means you must adhere to a diabetic prevention lifestyle or it will return.
Avatar n tn I told this doctor Scott is STILL HAVING stomache pain, diahrrea and high blood sugars and he said he wants to leave the high blood sugars to Scott's endorcrin. . I said that we all think th high blood sugars are because of the stomache pain but I'm not sure he gets that. I have called back to get his appointment moved up and we are on the waiting list to do so. In the meantime, his blood sugars are alittle bit better when he has absolutely has no sugar-free stuff. But.
Avatar n tn They could be suffering from DKA which is a medical emergency and needs a trip to the ER. DKA is usually suffered by Type 1's only, but occasionally a type 2 can have it. More dangerous in the short terms are lows. Anything under 60 should be treated. Some people say 70. I would err on the conservative side if the jobs entail anything dangerous like machinery or driving in which case the person should stay over 80.
1806721 tn?1554337007 Feb. 28, 2012 -- Memory loss, confusion, high blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes are possible side effects of the popular cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins, the FDA warns. Brand name and generic versions of statin drugs must carry these warnings on their labels, the FDA today announced.
Avatar f tn All the symptoms you describe can be caused by high blood sugar....especially the nausea and blurry vision. BTW, stress can also increase your blood sugar. Diarrhea, dehydration and using diuretics (like the Avalide) can cause low potassium. The uncontrolled diabetes (and stress) is probably causing your blood pressure to remain high. Why is your blood sugar out of control? Because when your blood sugar is over 200, you need more than Actos and Metformin to lower it.
Avatar m tn 039 and my A1c to be 6.0 and blood glucose is 119. My t3 and t4 are normal. They said your sugar is high and to cut sugars. Which I beleive I did and lost 10 pounds from 150 to 140 and being 5 feet 5.5 inches, and increasing my exercise to 40 minutes/5 days a week. After reducing my thyroid dose which I am hypothyroid because of iodine 131 given to me for hyperthroidism in 1978 From .125 to .112 my thyroid level is not better. Latest numbers after 3 months, on dose of synthroid generic...0.
1096641 tn?1271710825 "Anything above 126 mg/dl is Type 2 Diabetes." I'm confused...my fasting numbers are in the 90's...my "2 hours after meal" numbers are a bit high (121-147)... during the glucose tolerance test my fasting numbers were 105, 1hr after 75g it was 239 (or 269) and 2 hrs later was 160something.
Avatar n tn If your dad doesn't have a meter you may either buy one of your own, else go see your dr and ask for checkup. They will likely test Hba1c (average 3 month blood sugar) and fasting blood sugar. Hope this helps. Come back and let us know.
Avatar n tn Like I said, you need to clarify if you are Type 1 or Type 2 as that will make a difference in your management. Are you overweight or not? Do you have another autoimmune disease like thyroid? Be sure the doctor does the tests. Congratulations on your marriage.
