Avatar m tn This situation is a bit of a mess. You panicked. Your risk from the exposure you describe is low. you do not know that your partner had HIV and the probability that she was is quite low. Furthermore, there is virtually no risk of HIV from receipt of oral sex and, IF your partner had HIV, your risk of HIV form a single brief episode of unprotected intercourse is less than 1 in 1000. You then began to take post-exposure prophylaxis, apparently without a health care provider's supervision.
Avatar f tn if you didnt have HSAg (+) before the transplant you didnt have HBV so wouldnt need prophylaxis post-transplant. any of these oral medications would be life-long.
Avatar f tn I had an unprotected oral sex, with a small sore on my penis. Right at the day of the exposure I took one pill of truvada as a post-prophylaxis therapy. 1 pill and not more. After 6 weeks I have negative 4-th generation test. But is there a possibility that I have a much longer seroconversion period because it this one pill of truvada? Does it have impact on results or just one pill does not make a difference?
Avatar n tn I am a 28 year old new male doctor (not MD) and two nights ago, I had unprotected sex with a male who strongly preferred no condoms. For about 2 minutes of the sex, I penetrated him anally without protection. After about 2 minutes, I withdrew my penis and introduced a condom. We finished the act. Because of his aversion to condom usage, I became worried after he left.
Avatar n tn So, within 2 hours of the incident, I was in the ER talking to the doctor and explaining what had happened and told him I wanted the post exposure prophylaxis since I dont do this often and this is a one time thing, and I dont want to get HIV or HSV for a stupid moment that didn't even include actual sex, just momentary rubbing genitals together.
Avatar m tn or other adverse events when they used or stopped using Truvada for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), according to an analysis from the iPrEx study presented at the Eighth International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention (IAS 2015) last month in Vancouver, Canada. This is a potential concern because the drugs in Truvada – tenofovir and emtricitabine – are active against HBV as well as HIV.
Avatar m tn Im unfortunately not finding it easy time-wise to have another test, so I suppose my question is how accurate a rapid test result is after 4 weeks post exposure, and whether I still have cause for concern considering I was on a prophylaxis and tested negative.
Avatar m tn Hello! Can you please help me decide if I should take Post Exposure Prophylaxis: Truvada 200 mg (emtricitabine-tenofovir) plus Tivicay 50 mg (dolutegravir) for 28 days to reduce likelihood of HIV illnesses. These meds have potentially serious side-effects. Perhaps taking the meds is more dangerous than doing nothing in the following circumstance? I'm a fairly healthy circumcised male in my 60s. I had unprotected vaginal sex with a busy commercial sex worker for one hour on two occasions.
Avatar m tn I took the Truvada 16 hours post exposure and the isentress at 34 post exposure. I take the truvada at 530pm every day and the isentress at 830 am and pm. Is it ok that im not taking them at the same time?
Avatar m tn I slept with an HIV positive girl (she only told me afterwards). We did it once & for about 3 minutes. I went to the hospital & i was given Post Exposure Prophylaxis pills to take for 28days. I started taking them after 60 hours. I have been taking them daily. I am scared, what are my chances of contracting the disease? Has anyone had a similar situation. Please help!
Avatar m tn org/resources/heterosexual-risk-hiv-1-infection-sexual-act-systematic-review-and-meta-analysis Basically, enjoy the experience and if you plan to do these things in the future, look into PREP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) Truvada is tested to be 98% successful at preventing HIV from HIV positive partners. Generics are easy to come by if you live outside the US.
Avatar n tn There might be a risk (page 12 in the document below) and HIV post-exposure prophylaxis should be followed: HIV post-exposure prophylaxis Guidance from the UK Chief Medical Officers’ Expert Advisory Group on AIDS http://www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/@dh/@en/documents/digitalasset/dh_089997.
