Common Questions and Answers about Truvada and pep

truvada

Avatar m tn I went to health care center today, and explained the situation to doctor I did a rapid test there as control, and which is negative. and then doctor prescribed me Truvada as PEP for a month, and asked me to do a RNA after finish the Truvada. I keep searching "Effectiveness of Truvada alone as PEP" in internet, I am not sure if this is a normal practice for issuing Truvada alone.
Avatar n tn The PEP hotline recommended (if I chose to pursue) and the Australian Guidelines list 2-drug PEP (Truvada) as a viable regimen. From responses here, it seems this is overkill and anxiety-driven. What would be your thoughts?
Avatar m tn Thanks for that. PEP is effective, but I'm asking about Truvada in particular. Does the timeframe of 42 hours limit Truvada's effectiveness? Also, can one missed dose combined with a continuation of the doses thereafter really reduce effectiveness to 33%? Is this the consequence of missing one dose?
Avatar f tn Since the chances a quite low Can I stop taking pep or can I stop kaletra and remain with truvada take it upto 28days.coz kaletra gives me diarrhea.
Avatar m tn So, first. You didn't/ aren't taking PEP. You took Prep. There is a difference. One you take after an exposure to an hiv person that is deemed a risk and your doctor was very smart and told you accurately, you didn't have one and didn't need PEP. You don't/didn't. The only ways people get HIV is to have unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse or share IV drug needles to inject drugs.
Avatar f tn m currently taking Kaletra and Combivir.
Avatar f tn What were you taking PEP for in the first place? What was the exposure that prompted you to take PEP?
Avatar m tn Next day Call the city health, explained exposure and requested PEP and they said PEP is not advised. However, I went to local clinic and requested PEP and started Truvada my 1st day (incident happened 24 hours back). Local Doctor gave Truvada (PEP) and other antibacterials drugs as well. I feel so guilty and I have no sex with any other girl other than my wife. I am not sexually active and this is so unfortunate event for me. Am I pose risk here? what are my next steps? Please advise.
Avatar n tn After several hours going from a hospital to another, I finally could get a Truvada pill in the very deadline limit of the treatment, probably between the 72nd and 74th hour after the sex. I was quite desperate and I felt that the staff in this hospital wasn't too much prepared to take cases like mine with HIV risk envolved. It took too many hours, even though I tried to explain them the gravity about this situation.
Avatar m tn Luck had it I made it into the hospital in Bangkok when around 65 hours after the first exposure in Cambodia had happened. The doctor subscribed me with a PEP cure (Aluvia + Truvada). I have been experiencing severe itching and redness in my face after the daily dose of Truvada, which I tried to take Zyrtec for, which helped a little, albeit not much.
Avatar m tn PEP. So I was placed on Prezista, Truvada, and Norvir and developed a rash from it that my MD says is from the medication. I of course freaked out thinking it was an ARS symptom so he changed my regimen to Combivir and Insentress. He initially wanted me to wait three days to restart (I have been on the previous combo since Jan 17th, so a little over a week).
Avatar f tn Rahul.. Decision to be put on PEP is done by you and your doctor. As I said, only a doctor can evaluate you and decide. I can't suggest anything here. I you think you need PEP, look for a doctor who can give it to you, if you are comfortable with the evaluation that this doctor gave, then stick to it. The choice is yours.
Avatar m tn Hello all! This is my first post. I am currently in Bangkok for work and I went out last night, had too many drinks and ended up sleeping with a hooker. I have been so distraught over this. I barely eat today and I have yet to sleep. I did use a condom but there was a period of time before I put the condom on where the woman was grinding on my penis. I was very much intoxicated so I can't honestly say for sure if my penis penetrated her without the condom.
Avatar f tn After doing some reading, I see that Truvada+Kaletra (or Truvada alone) is a commonly prescribed PeP regimine.  I know that Truvada is part of the Stribild combo, but Im not sure why this was the specialists choice? I saw that there is an ongoing clinical trial with regards to Stribild as PeP, which would mean that it is not yet approved for such purposes?  My questions for you are: Will Stribild even be an effective PeP treatment?
Avatar m tn I have a couple of questions about pep and testing. I had a high risk MSM encounter I was the receptive partner and the condom came off. The partner who was anonymous, later found out a csw as well, claimed that they "should" be negative but hadn't tested lately. I was prescribed PEP (truvada, tivicay) initiated 25 hours post exposure on the reccomendation of the hiv infectious disease counselor in my area.
Avatar m tn my window period for pap closing tomorrow and i am only taking truvada, and i m reading that usually truvada taken with other hiv prophylaxis meds, so this is what i wanted to know if truvada only is enough for prophylaxis. i m calling a doctor but he is not picking up...
Avatar m tn He may not have had HIV, after all, he said he was not and most people do tell the truth, even if he had HIV and without PEP, your risk of infection would have been about 1% and the PEP makes that closer to 1 in 10,000. I hope these comments are helpful. Again, I think you are doing all the right things.
Avatar m tn Anyone out there have a high risk exposure and took PEP? What was the outcome.
Avatar m tn I rinsed my penis and swabbed with alcohol after. I also commenced Truvada that evening ( approx 4 hrs post exposure) . Is this adequate . I have now been on it for a week . I was considering commencing kaletra as well . Is my risk high ? would you recommend anything else? thanks for advice worried !!
Avatar n tn Or put a differently, if these symptoms were due to hiv, would it mean that the pep had failed and the test could have shown postive, even during the course of pep? My other question is whether this could be my body's reaction to truvada? Worryingly none of the symptoms have changed since finishing the pep. Many many thanks again...
Avatar f tn We had 3 session of sex After 50 hrs sought for PEP and was given Truvada alone but asked the doc why Truvada, he said I had a low risk and am circumsiced, I then let it pass. I took my medication religiously until I finished it 2 days ago. I am starting experiencing ars symptoms like a sore throat, muscle aches, pain in my neck, armpits and groin but no swollen node but pain where they are located. I am really stressed up with this situation.
