You are correct that Truvada is a combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine, and is generally prescribed for patients with HIV. Being a HBV forum, most of us know very little about Truvada except that it is prescribed off-label for HBV by some doctors, and that it is recommended for HBV patients who develop resistance to Tenofovir.

Truvada is classified by the FDA as a pregnancy category B drug which means it is safe during pregnancy. During my pregnancy I used Tenofovir which is also cat B and my baby is healthy thanks god. I never stopped taking it. I don't know much about Truvada but as long as it is category B, I believe it is fine. Confirm with your dr. Goood luck.

tdf has zero sides effects on breastfeeding, it is the most used antiviral on pregnancy as regards truvada i dont know but i guess it is the same because truvada is tenofovir+ftc and ftc is not a drug with significant sides effect at all

Hi Thanks for all the help provided by the blog. I started PEP after a relatively risky exposure. However, I started Turvada 42 hours after exposure. I've read that Truvada has a limited effectiveness after 24 hours. Is this accurate? I also missed a dose on day 10 and from day 16 got general lymphadenopathy, headaches and other ARS-like symptoms. Can anyone help?

1 Truvada and 2 Kaletra at 7am while 2 Kaletra at 7pm. Yesterday, I took 1 Truvada at 7am but since I was in a hurry after dinner, I accidentally took one more Truvada last night. Truvada is 100% effective as PrEP, or nearly so, as long as it is taken properly and there are good amounts of drug in the system at the time of exposure. Truvada is the main medicine that has been studied and recommended for PrEP. It is a combination of two drugs, tenofovir and emtricitabine. Maybe some things you read used these names, so you didn't see the Truvada brand name. I don't know if taking PPI drugs interferes with effectiveness against PrEP.
