Avatar n tn 1 month later he was not saticfied with the drop in cholestoral so he put me on a fairley new drug called Trilipix. I take 10mg of lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mg of crestor, and 145mg of trilipix. After being put on the trilipix I started felling tired and having stomache problems (constipated and cramping). I went back to have my a1c check last week and it was 8.0.
Avatar n tn A HDL is identical to a LDL, the only difference is the marker. Both HDL and LDL have fat in them, and HDL could be converted into a LDL by changing its marker. This is the beauty of lipids. Even sex hormones are in proteins and have markers, it's a highly used system. A HDL molecule simply has the right shape/key to chemically lock on to an LDL and chemically alter the marker on the LDL, then they seperate.
315318 tn?1353251800 Recently , I was prescribed a fenofibrate (Trilipix 135 mg) along with Crestor. My cardio wanted this for helping in getting my triglycerides down. I have not had a lipid profile done since starting on this med two months ago. However, since being a diabetic , I check my blood glucose (BG) many times during the day and what I am noticing is a clear trend in the BG numbers going lower at least over the last month or so.
Avatar n tn You need to understand the role HDL plays. HDL binds with LDL to remove it from your blood and keep it from accumulating in your arteries. You have a low LDL numbers so you don't need as much HDL, but 29 is too low. I would look at increasing the amount of exercise you're doing and ask your doctor about supplements. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and raised triglycerides, affecting millions of patients worldwide, are strongly linked to significantly increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) even in patients who achieve or surpass current low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets.
Avatar n tn I cycle quite a bit now after finding out about the heart disease. Total Cholestrol 121, LDL 61, HDL fluctuates between 36 and 45. Medications on: Metroprolol 25MG to control tachycardia, Lipitor 20MG, Niaspan 1000MG, Nexium 40MG, 81MG aspirin every three days because once a day caused petechia, Krill oil, Depakote 125MG and Klonopin .5MG at bedtime. Had calcium score done a few months ago and score went from 20 (two years ago) to 19 (now).
Avatar f tn Female, 32, HDL 37, LDL 82, TG 97 VITD 28 (mildly low) I have struggled with low HDL for a few years since I started getting it checked. I do have some family history of heart disease (grandparents and my father has low HDL 35 for 15 years). I have seen a cardiologist who didn't feel it was needed to do anything with my HDL at this time or to do any tests further than an echo and my bloodwork. My regular GP agreed as well. He said that I am young and healthy.
Avatar f tn When it comes to fat, trans fat is considered by some doctors to be the worst of them all because of its double-barreled impact on your cholesterol levels. Unlike other fats, trans fat — also called trans fatty acids — both raises your "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and lowers your "good" (HDL) cholesterol. A high LDL cholesterol level in combination with a low HDL cholesterol level significantly increases your risk of heart disease.
Avatar n tn 112 mg/dL i am really concerned about the LOW HDL, last year my HDL value was 29 md/dl, i am really concerend about my HDL value, is this a very high risk? what should be my next step of action to control this. please advice.
Tbd Brisk walking for 30 minutes most days of the week will have a great impact on HDL and raising your HDL will balance out your total cholesterol number as Total Cholesterol is a ratio between HDL and LDL. LDL can be lowered for many through diet. Exercise is a key component for HDL so make sure to get that regularly.
Avatar m tn It is essential for brain and nerve function (and therefore, ultimately muscle). You must know the value of HDL since you want to raise it. Anything below 100 is usually "normal" for LDL. Different doctors seem to have different standards for what they deem acceptable. I'll leave that there. I don't blame you for wanting to raise your HDL to at least the 40-60 range. Statin drugs WILL NOT help to do this. Exercise will if you are able to be active.
Avatar m tn In the last 4 months, I have lost 28 lbs and my current weight is 154 lbs with height 5 feet and 8 inches. What am I doing wrong and why my HDL is so low?
Avatar f tn I'd mix some exercise into your day, it will reduce LDL's and raise HDL's, although your HDL level is already very high, a good thing. You didn't give your age, weight, etc. If you have reasons to believe you have Angina, ask your doctor for a prescription of Nitro pills. When the pain starts, take a pill. If the chest pain disappears, you might have Angina. That said, get ready for a really bad headache when you take the nitro pill.
Avatar f tn My doctor has me on 30mg of Coreg (time release) that I take once in the morning. My fatigue has increased and my libido has dropped to zero. I have also gained 30 pounds since my quintuple CABG back in September 2007. I am also on Zocor, Aspirin and Niaspam. Can Coreg cause any of these symptoms? Also, my HDL has not improved since my surgery. I'm stuck in the high 20's. I feel a lack of motivation and rarely exercise. I'm worried about the HDL.
Avatar m tn Can't comment on the state of permanence, but my husband developed high triglycerides about 6 months into treatment, his numbers jumping from the low 100s to between 300-400. His hep team started him on omega-3 fish oil, and levels have subsequently come back down into the 100's ranges again. On the flip side, his cholesterol (LDL & HDL) took a dive, cholesterol dropping from the high 100s to the 70s, and docs reduced his statin dose in response.
Avatar n tn Taking both the HDL and LDL actual numbers and percentile them on the range is good to do. Example would be if your LDL (bad) level is 15% higher than the high point on the reference range you need to look at the HDL (good) cholesterol number and if that is about 15% higher also like LDL you may not have a real concern with cholesterol at all and the abnormal levels are usually due to the abnormal thyroid function at this time.
Avatar n tn For three years that I know of, I have had high Cholesterol with High HDL and LDL levels and they continue to rise. Two family doctors told me not to worry about, the good counteracts the bad. I just saw my GYN for some other lab work that I brought with me and when she saw my Cholesterol level she wanted to put me on Cholesterol meds. which I am glad to do because I don't like having such a high LDL and total. Previous 2 yrs.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lisinopril (bp) for 5 years and Trilipix and Simvastatin (cholesterol) for the last 3-4 years.
Avatar m tn For some, even your ldl is too high and hdl too low. Do you exercise at all? My hdl is traditionally low even when I am working out due to my crummy genetics (thanks mom and dad). So, that does happen but for many, that number can be boosted. And ldl can lower bringing your cholesterol under the right number too. And yes, your triglycerides are still too high. I'd want to talk to the doctor about this. There are things you can also add or avoid that will help.
1444434 tn?1284390450 As remar said get back to us with your LDL and HDL and if need be I can suggest some supplements that could help.
Avatar n tn s were 52 and ldl was 101 my hdl was only 37.. I asked my doctore why they would not do a cardiac cath on me and he said no doctor would because I am 37 years old and fall under a low risk category..
Avatar m tn Just got my lips back, hdl was 37 ldl was 60 total 160, tries 250. Is this all right, hdl is low but so is my ldl. ( 55 year old male ) am I at any risk. thanks ps doctor does not seem concered, says lose weight and excersize.
Avatar m tn com for studies on vitamin d and found that vitamin d increases hdl, i found a link to this trial too and it looks it is possible to get hdl to 80mg/dl or higher. we do know hdl is antiviral on hbv from a study presented at easl 2010 or 2011, high hdl like 80mg/dl makes also heart diseases/strokes/diabetes to zero and also centenarios are all found to have hdl>80mg/dl http://www.trackyourplaque.com/blog/2011/11/hdl-80-mgdl.
