Avatar f tn I first started noticing the trigeminal neuralgia pain when cool breezes would hit my cheek. Prior to that I had numbness and tingling for years in that area. I hope it doesn't develop into something more painful and just stays at numbness.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia in diabetics etc can also cause perioral tingling. Raynaud’s disease or phenomenon causes tingling and numbness in lips, nose ears, nipples , fingers or toes, changing from white to blue to red on exposure to cold. It is seen in systemic sclerosis, SLE or rheumatoid arthritis. Infections like shingles and leprosy, neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis and trigeminal neuralgia. I hope this information helps. Please feel free to ask me anything if required.
Avatar f tn I have a VP shunt and require an MRI because I am having trigeminal neuralgia in my face and neck problems which are leading to numbness in my fingers. CT scans show nothing so my neurologist ordered an MRI. Is it safe for someone with a VP shunt to have one? Im just nervous about it flying out of my head an all. Thank you for any input.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
378497 tn?1232143585 In general, trigeminal neuralgia is a clinical diagnosis. Patients usually report electric like shocks across one side of the face in part or all of the face. They're usually set off by brushing your teeth, cold drinks, breeze across the face, talking, or even making facial expressions. Your symptoms may be consistent with trigeminal neuralgia. You may want to ask your neurologist about your symptoms.
Avatar f tn i have a reaserch on mangment of trigeminal neuralgia , but i cann't know until now which the best medical or surgical treatment and i couldn't found which have high rate of recurrance.
Avatar n tn I woke up today with a headache on the right side of my head around my temple and numbness in my nose on the right side. I have shooting pains that last a few minutes and are along my upper jaw as well as lower jaw. There is a sensitivity to touch under my right eye. My question is about what to do next. Do I go to dentist for a root canal or to a neurologist regarding a possible neurologist or an ENT as suggested by my PA?
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Avatar n tn However, I had the same symptoms you were having and was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Its where one or more of the three main nerves in your face cause nerve pain, or neuralgia. The first nerve lays across the eyebrows, the second lays across your cheek bones and the third nerve lays across the chin. My doctor put me on Lyrica and Klonopin and it seems to help a little, although the pain does intensify and the pain medication does not work for it since it is nerve pain.
Avatar n tn Numbness of lower left lip is not a common manifestation of trigeminal neuralgia or tmj issue. If your tmj specialist does not know how to diagnose and manage, you may need it see an Orofacial pain specialist.
Avatar m tn I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain. Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.
Avatar f tn The various causes of facial numbness on one side of the face are diabetes mellitus, peripheral nerve trauma, stroke, bells or lower motor neuron palsy, acoustic neuroma and trigeminal neuralgia. Consult a neurologist if there has been any such recent development in your husband. Dental consult is also warranted to rule out trigeminal nerve involvement or any dental cause of numbness. Take care.
388376 tn?1302011418 no more numbness in ear, less numbness in tongue...but not at all what I had expected...and it is decreasing dose...so I guess time will tell..... I have significantly less pain though....that helps.....
Avatar n tn About a year ago, my Pain Specialist started deep injects of Ketamine in my face in front of my ears. 120mg in 4 injections in 2 hours every 2 weeks. The injections are done in his office. This is the only relief I have ever really gotten from this horrible disease. I have somewhat regained my normal life. Don't get me wrong, I know when it is time to get another injection because the pain returns with a vengeance. But it gives me great hope for the future.

373367 tn?1246402035 Sounds like trigeminal neuralgia to me. I've had pains in the left side of my face, from the ear to the chin, for some time now. Sometimes it feels like a headache in my chin, sometimes like a pinprick or electric shock.
Avatar m tn I am now suffering recently from a lot of pain in my right ear. From time to time I feel numbness and almost a heat sensation on the right side of my face. Would caffiene cause these symptoms or should I be worried about something more?
Avatar n tn I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin, colonzepam, baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain. Is there anyone who got cure by Chiropractor.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal nerve is it. Neuralgia is when you experience pain along the trigeminal nerve. The most disconcerting of these was the pain I got behind my molars on the left side - a sharp stabbing pain that felt like I'd been shocked with an electric jolt.
347645 tn?1283220742 I will have the Ganetta procedure done in a few weeks and my fingers are crossed... but in the mean time, a pain management specialist prescribed Avinza (morphine) and for the first few days to adjust to it, some anti-nausea meds. Now, I'm not saying that it was a cure all. But for the first time in years, I could relax a little.
Avatar f tn In general, it is possible to TN to change in distribution over time. I would suggest getting reevaluated by your neurologist. If medical therapy fails, there are very effective surgical therapies! Good luck!
