Would someone who has Trigeminal Neuralgia please help me out with the progression of this condition. For about a week now - I have numbness above my left eye that seems to have gotten worse everyday - first my eyebrow, then my forehead and now my skull. I have a low grade headache at times and when I lift my eyebrow, pain shoots up my forehead and skull, although not intense pain. I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI.
I first started noticing the trigeminal neuralgia pain when cool breezes would hit my cheek. Prior to that I had numbness and tingling for years in that area.
I hope it doesn't develop into something more painful and just stays at numbness.
Numbness of lower left lip is not a common manifestation of trigeminal neuralgia or tmj issue. If your tmj specialist does not know how to diagnose and manage, you may need it see an Orofacial pain specialist.

This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Also if you are having the tingling or numbness, this can also be attributed to Trigeminal Neuralgia, which can also be a symptom of MS. It would probably be a great idea to see a doctor and see if you can be referred to a neurologist.
I just found out that I do have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have the same symptons you have and I have researched this many people have unneccesary procedures done on their teeth thinking its that. I would recommend before you undergo the root canal seeing a Neurologist and having them do a MRI they will be able to see if its the Trigeminal Neuralgia by this test. I hope this helps, I know how

i have a reaserch on mangment of trigeminal neuralgia , but i cann't know until now which the best medical or surgical treatment and i couldn't found which have high rate of recurrance.
has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?
I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain.
Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..

From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.

ive never heard of caffiene causing this, it almost sounds like a nerve irritation. there are certian nerves that innervate your face such as the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. I'm not a physician but this sounds slightly similar to trigeminal neuralgia, which is inflammation of the trigeminal nerve causing facial pain and pain around an eye. the fact that it radiates and you feel heat and numbness sounds like nerve pain to me.
I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin,colonzepam,baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain.

but it could possibly be trigeminal neuralgia....a not uncommon pain syndrome in MS. Carbamazepine is the standard treatment. Let your neurologist know so you can be properly evaluated and treated.
Had a small outbreak of Shingles on the left side of my face 2/20/16 that turned into Post herpetic neuralgia. Which attacked the nerve root of my Trigeminal nerve.Since then I am in constant pain and numbness on the left side of my face, lower lip, teeth and gum.

ELT, you're not the first person to comment on the weird drugs you were given for the pain. What I hear is that the pain is neurological, therefore the drugs need to change brain chemistry to be effective.

I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. Within the last two months, I have been experiencing burning and pain in my right foot (including toes). I am taking oxcarbazepine, is this a side affect or does it mean I need to increase the dose.
