Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia symptoms numbness

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI. Are my symptoms consistant with TN? Does TN start with low grade pain and numbness and then increase in pain over time? How long does it take for the pain to intensify? The numbness is constant and low grade pain is triggered by lifting my left eybrow? Please help me understand the progression of this condition. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I first started noticing the trigeminal neuralgia pain when cool breezes would hit my cheek. Prior to that I had numbness and tingling for years in that area. I hope it doesn't develop into something more painful and just stays at numbness.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.
388376 tn?1302011418 it is going on two weeks and I am about to lose my mind....my doctor has diagnosed it as Trigeminal Neuralgia and has put me on a regime of cortisone for the next 12 days with hopes that it will reduce the numbness...Have you had any luck so far????? (Before this I was in good health never any problems....apart from stress....this is when it seemed to happen....
Avatar n tn Also if you are having the tingling or numbness, this can also be attributed to Trigeminal Neuralgia, which can also be a symptom of MS. It would probably be a great idea to see a doctor and see if you can be referred to a neurologist.
Avatar f tn The various causes of facial numbness on one side of the face are diabetes mellitus, peripheral nerve trauma, stroke, bells or lower motor neuron palsy, acoustic neuroma and trigeminal neuralgia. Consult a neurologist if there has been any such recent development in your husband. Dental consult is also warranted to rule out trigeminal nerve involvement or any dental cause of numbness. Take care.
1475492 tn?1332884167 I mentioned the facial pain/numbness, eye pain, aching symptoms I had for nearly 10 months as I had a relapse the weekend prior as well as an increase in symptoms. I asked about migraines since that was toss around by the specialists. After a pretty thorough conversation about the symptoms and this pain, she told me it doesn't sound like migraines at all and it soun like a brain nerve thing. Since I have an increase in symtpoms she wanted to do a full MRI of my brain and spine right away.
Avatar f tn I believe I have some trigeminal neuralgia also. At least my chiro says I do and with as bad as my TMJ is I wouldn't doubt it. I also have a really bad neck so I wonder how many symptoms are from those two alone... It's hard to be in limboland isn't it? I don't even know what kind of Dr. to see next.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed over a year ago with trigeminal. Before that dx, I had a brain MRI for symptoms of facial numbness. GP tried to rule out possible TIA. MRI found white matter throughout. (sorry I don't have clinical findings to write). I've had migraines since I was 16 and radiologist felt white matter could be from long hx of migraines but MS needed to be ruled out. Never followed up with neuro due to ins.
Avatar m tn ive never heard of caffiene causing this, it almost sounds like a nerve irritation. there are certian nerves that innervate your face such as the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. I'm not a physician but this sounds slightly similar to trigeminal neuralgia, which is inflammation of the trigeminal nerve causing facial pain and pain around an eye. the fact that it radiates and you feel heat and numbness sounds like nerve pain to me.
Avatar m tn As many as 90% patients have reduction in symptoms after a month of treatment. Some side effects of facial numbness have been associated. Gamma knife surgery for trigeminal neuralgia has been a safe and effective treatment and better than traditional surgery. Take care.
Avatar n tn I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin, colonzepam, baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain. Is there anyone who got cure by Chiropractor.
1353813 tn?1279249279 The symptoms you are describing bear resemblance to few possibilities like facial nerve palsy, trigeminal neuralgia MPDS( myofacial pain dysfunction) and then TMJ disorder due to strenuous opening of mouth for long sittings of RCT.
Avatar f tn Can the parotid gland swell and cause trigeminal neuralgia? Or even lymph nodes swell and get into any facial nerves or am i stuck taking this horrible medicine (carba..) for a long time and these are two different symptoms????
Avatar n tn Numbness of lower left lip is not a common manifestation of trigeminal neuralgia or tmj issue. If your tmj specialist does not know how to diagnose and manage, you may need it see an Orofacial pain specialist.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Avatar n tn Hello there, I am 26 years old and I had a maxillofacial surgery almost exactly 3 years ago during which metal plates and screws were drilled into my jawbones and cheek areas. I checked online and my surgeon has retired since so I have no idea how to contact him. I have never had a headache in my life. Then, out of the nowhere, for the past 10 days I have had non stop burning, agonizing headaches, numbness and burning in my face and around the back of my neck.
Avatar f tn i have a reaserch on mangment of trigeminal neuralgia , but i cann't know until now which the best medical or surgical treatment and i couldn't found which have high rate of recurrance.
Avatar f tn has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?
