Trigeminal neuralgia eye symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia eye symptoms

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.
Avatar m tn Trigeminal neuralgia symptoms can be scary, causing anxiety, rising your heart rate. Follow up with your doctor for what you describe to make sure that there are not other conditions involved, I agree that your described conditions do not seem commonly related to the diagnosis alone.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar f tn I had a ct scan done thinking it was sinus related, and that came back clear. I went to eye doctor, and he said everything was fine. My symptoms are not similar to everyone elses, but could it be trigeminal neuralgia? My pain in not actually in eye, just right on corner between eye and nose?
1475492 tn?1332884167 I mentioned the facial pain/numbness, eye pain, aching symptoms I had for nearly 10 months as I had a relapse the weekend prior as well as an increase in symptoms. I asked about migraines since that was toss around by the specialists. After a pretty thorough conversation about the symptoms and this pain, she told me it doesn't sound like migraines at all and it soun like a brain nerve thing. Since I have an increase in symtpoms she wanted to do a full MRI of my brain and spine right away.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn t had any other pain on my face that has these symptoms that I can remember. What I have effects only my left temple and left eye. I hope you find out what is causing your pain it also sounds very disabling. Thanks again for the info.
Avatar n tn These symptoms are pointing towards trigeminal neuralgia, which is a nerve disorder causing a stabbing or electric shock like pain in parts of face. This can affect part of or all of face and surface of eye. Trigeminal neuralgia may be caused by multiple sclerosis and pressure on the trigeminal nerve from a swollen blood vessel or tumor.
Avatar f tn Last week I started having very intense pain in one of my eyes and went to the eye dr. who thinks I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. For the last two days I noticed my eyelid drooping when my eye was hurting really bad. My question is, can a droopy eyelid be associated with Trigeminal Neuralgia or could this be something else? I plan on following up with my neurologist but does this sound like something I should be really worried about?
1298230 tn?1286310079 In addition, in trigeminal neuralgia you may have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Therefore, they are hardly interlinked.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
655091 tn?1224364431 ve been placed on several medications - Tegretol, Lustral, Neurontin, Amitriptyline. I have been vaguely diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, yet it seems to manifest more as Raeders. Seven years of this with minimal recovery. A lonely condition. I want rid of it. What can I do to convince my doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Is there hope? I'm delighted to have found this forum and its members. Hope to be a friend. Any response would be most welcome, Declan.
Avatar f tn Hi, This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Avatar m tn I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI. Are my symptoms consistant with TN? Does TN start with low grade pain and numbness and then increase in pain over time? How long does it take for the pain to intensify? The numbness is constant and low grade pain is triggered by lifting my left eybrow? Please help me understand the progression of this condition. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if a nerve of trigeminal neuralgia is behind the eye in getting a ganglion gasserian procedure done
Avatar m tn ive never heard of caffiene causing this, it almost sounds like a nerve irritation. there are certian nerves that innervate your face such as the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. I'm not a physician but this sounds slightly similar to trigeminal neuralgia, which is inflammation of the trigeminal nerve causing facial pain and pain around an eye. the fact that it radiates and you feel heat and numbness sounds like nerve pain to me.
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.
