Avatar f tn 1. Do I really need a higher dose to rid trigeminal nerve symptons? 2. Is gabapentin contributing to balance and gait issues? 3. Are there any other alternatives aside from Lyrica? I thank you in advance for sharing your wisdom.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with atypical trigeminal neuralgia , I have severe crushing pain top and bottom of my right jaw pain into the cheek and across to my nose, ear ache and some neck pain. All the pain is in the right side and stops exactly in the middle of my face. (I dont get a headache with it . the attacks have lasted up to 12 hours with no reprieve until i got some tablets from my doctor.
Avatar f tn Carbamazepine (Tegretol) was first used to treat trigeminal neuralgia in the 1990s. Because of its success in treating that painful condition (which is very difficult to treat), it was then used to treat all kinds of neuropathic pain. While it may be useful, there are more modern medications that may help if you have a neuropathic pain problem -- for instance, Neurontin (gabapentin) and Lyrica (pregabalin).
Avatar m tn I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have had MVD surgery on both sides yet it returned on one side. I have been told by several dr's that there is no pain management for it and that surgery to sever the nerve is all that can be done. I am currently highly medicated and struggling to work. Please let me know if any meds anyone has found succesful. I have tried, amitriptylene, neurontin, toradol, dilaudid, dilantin, oxcarbazapine, and more!
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.
Avatar n tn , She flew on a plane a few days later and thought her tooth would explode Pain continued in the tooth with the root canal, was sensitive to heat and cold, and I put ambsol on that tooth only with a q-tip, she felt the liquid on the tooth with the root canal and it was painful, a few weeks later and another root canal, then a crown and two bite gurards in 2 months and still the pain continued -- pain is located on left side of face lower jaw (where the root canals were) later after trips t
Avatar n tn Already she had two pain blocks, neither worked at all and now they want to do a Radio Frequency abrasion - I am concerned about her diagnosis, atypical trigeminal neuralgia -- being treated like the regular Trigeminal Neuralgia, the pain symptoms do not match -- did yours start this was and progress into the trigeminal neuralgia They have all her dental recorrds, even an MRI plus another ct from emergency room earlier this year, and all the records from the pain clinics -- yet pain symtoms
Avatar f tn My doctor confirmed yesterday, 8/27/2012 that I do have trigeminal neuralgia on the left side of my face. She prescribed Tegretol 200mg to start. I was supposed to start last night however I am a little scared of what kind of side effects I will experience from this medication. I left a message for my doctor to call me back as I would like to see if I could cut the pill in half to take only 100mg to start.
Avatar n tn t understand why I get electric shock like symptoms on one side of my face like trigeminal neuralgia sufferers, but I also get those sensations randomly throughout my body. While they don't understand the excruciating pain we're going through and what's causing it, our pain is PAINFULLY REAL. I cried when they decided to not help me anymore (btw I have no insurance, another reason I have crappy public hospital neurologists).
567677 tn?1246767776 he said to me well Utah does not have Medical Majiuana but for trigeminal neuralgia I can put you on Marinol the side effects will help you ... I asked him what it was and he told me I was just glad I wasn't presenting for it...
Avatar m tn There is a chance of a misdiagnosis here if Tegretol is not working. It is the gold standard for treating trigeminal neuralgia. If it is not working, it may possibly be pain of some other cause. The neurologist may be able to help you sort this out.
Avatar n tn It’s available in most health food and vitamin stores. It needs to be applied four times a day. But if it relieves your pain without side effects, it’s worth it. Some people do experience discomfort at first, because the cream increases the pain signals before decreasing them, a side effect that generally subsides after several days of continued use. Just make sure you wash your hands after you use it and DON'T touch your eyes until you wash your hands!! It helped my mother-in-law!

405614 tn?1329144114 My dentist told me that I am more likely to develop bilateral trigeminal neuralgia since I have it on the left side and have MS. Am I out of line by extending this possiblilty to include occipital neuralgia? My PCP saw me for a regular follow-up after the headaches, and from my descriptions she suggested it could be from tight muscles in the neck; I said that it felt like every muscle in my scalp had tightened up.
Avatar f tn For those of you with trigeminal neuralgia, would you mind me asking you what it feels like? I have been assuming, for a while, that what I have in my face is bilateral trigeminal neurlagia. But, perhaps I'm wrong.
Avatar n tn However, I had the same symptoms you were having and was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Its where one or more of the three main nerves in your face cause nerve pain, or neuralgia. The first nerve lays across the eyebrows, the second lays across your cheek bones and the third nerve lays across the chin. My doctor put me on Lyrica and Klonopin and it seems to help a little, although the pain does intensify and the pain medication does not work for it since it is nerve pain.
1645454 tn?1301109800 Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica. My question is: what would the same dosage of Lyrica be? The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?
Avatar n tn I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
