1933354 tn?1323362834 I have read (Delta Dawn for one person on this community) some who are sensitive to BB break it up to 4 times a day, this gets confusing to me if one is going to get 8 hour sleep it isn't possible to take a med every 6 hours. Still, 12.5 mg 4 times a day may work better for you than 25 mg 2 times a day. You'd have to figure out how the forth is taken, you may need to take 12.5 mg every 8 hours with the last one before bed time being two doses, that is it would be the old 25 mg dose.
Avatar n tn If he was prescribed 100 mg Toprol XL once/day it should be the same as taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2/day. We are not physicians nor pharmacists and you should consult one or both about drug substitutions and dosage equivalents.
9870921 tn?1481258967 I am on 100 mg of metoprolol tartrate twice a day, and yesterday I have stepped it down to 75 mg twice a day..talk about dizzy...whooo.. anyway I am going to have a ablation on wednesday for SVT. I was told to hold my meds the night before and morning of the procedure, I wasn't sure how safe that was, called the pharmacist and he said that was perfectly safe..the doctor also said after the ablation I may not need them at all, so yes I am confused.
Avatar n tn I was struggling with side effects from Cardiezem and asked to have my medicine changed, so I was put on 50 mg Metroprolol Tartrate per day, but began to suffer some nasty side effects--headaches, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, lucid dreams, runny nose, and my heart rate dropped from 75-85 bpm to 45 to 55 bpm's depending on what I was doing. When I would sleep it dropped into the low 40's, and I couldn't focus at work, couldn't exercise.
Avatar f tn My husband takes metoprolol tartrate. He only has one month of medication left and refuses to go back to the Dr. How can I wean him off of the drug so he doesn't have a heart attack or something?
Avatar m tn New cardio. was on atenolol 25 mg 2x daily for aortic valve disorder, but had issues of impotence and very very low heart rate, as well as numerous palpitations. Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
Avatar n tn There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. With Metoprolol Tartrate, you take it twice a day, usually 12 hours apart. Maximum plasma levels occur about an hour after taking in and it begins to be metabolized. Typically, the dose is reduced 50% every 4 to 5 hours. This is why it's taken twice a day. Metoprolol Succinate is the time release version. It's taken once a day and is slowly metabolized throughout a 24 hr. period.
Avatar n tn My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?
Avatar m tn To: Dr. JCH MD, FACS Sir, I had written to you on 7th Feb under title " Interio Lattice, no holes detected" and I thank you very much for promptly answering my questions (on 07.02.2011) and removing my concerns. Sorry that I did not reply back to you in time as I was travelling. This is in continuation of the same. As a precaution I went for 2nd Opinion (to a Retina Specialist in Centre for Sight, New Delhi, which is one of the reputed Eye Hospitals).

612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking a beta blocker, 50 mg Metoprolol ER (Extended/Slow Release), for several years but have with my cardiologist approval today refilled my BB prescription with Metoprolol Tartrate (normal release) to be taken at 25 mg twice a day (every 12 hours). My reason is driven mainly by the fact the Tartrate is about 1/6th the cost of the Suc (ER).
Avatar f tn Anyways, she wants me on metoprolol tartrate. Because I have been on the atenolol for 4 years I have concerns. Will this medication treat me the same as the atenolol. Is there a posibility of not being able to take this medication. Does it have the same action as the atenolol? I appreciate and thank whatever answers I can get. Right now I am trying to lower myself off the atenolol. Taking a half every other night. Tonight will be my 2nd night. I am just concerned with changing over.
Avatar m tn This was not it. Almost a week ago, my doctor prescribed Detrol LA 2mg (Tolterodine L-tartrate 2mg) capsules, to be taken once a day. I first started taking them a week and a half ago, and they don't seem to have had an effect. It's for a condition called "overactive bladder", however, the symptoms of this condition don't really match mine. I also drink lots of water every day, and I don't have diabetes.
Avatar n tn Talk it over with your cardiologist to see if you can try 50 mg XL once a day. If she agrees you can split you 100 mg tablets - if necessary buy a pill splitter. Here I assume you'll get a chance to see what 50 mg will do and I further assume you didn't have serious side effects at the 25 mg level.
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
Avatar f tn does anybody have any experiences getting off metoprolol tartrate? I've been taking 25 mg a day (split in 2) for around 2 years now, I've occasionally gone to 50 mg a day but had to go back down Everytime. it was given to me because of PVC / slightly high blood pressure and sinus tach. it helped at first but I was sent to the ER 16 days ago for panic attack / tach due to smoking weed. ever since my symptoms have gotten so much worse.
1464004 tn?1384135733 I take Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg BID. When it nears time to take my second dose, maybe an hour before,I feel like what I can only describe as a pressure or ache in my heart as if it's telling me it's time for my next dose.I know that sounds kind of weird and was just wondering if anyone else has had that happen. The pressure feeling always goes away about a half hour after I take my night dose andrarely if ever happens with the morning dose. I know weird right?
1027737 tn?1253103788 I think tartrate is fast acting where the other is time released if I remember right.
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol Tartrate 25MG 2 twice a day. Within 30 mins of taking Metoprolol, I feel the effects and I feel great. My BP and it drops to 100/60 and my heart rate drops to 70 or even 65 BPM. I don't have any side effects from this med. That being said, the issue I'm running into is that the Metoprolol doesn't seem to last as long as it should. If I take the Metaprolol at 7am, by the time 3pm comes around, my BP is 135/92 and my heart rate can get as high as 120 BPM.
1464004 tn?1384135733 I looked up Metoprolol, it is used in doses up to 450 mg/day (likely in divided doses), so, in my non-professional opinion, 50 mg/day of Metoprolol is a low dose. In that sense, you shouldn't have problems. ACE Inhibitors and ARBs are an alternate way to lower blood pressure, but you and your physician would need to determine if they are right for you. Both are prescription medications and act on vessels throughout the body.
Avatar m tn The only medication that works from what I tried is metoprolol tartrate. I started off by taking 2x 25mg. After 1 year my cardio let me increase the dosage to 50 mg x2, but everytime I increase the dosage it seems to work perfectly for the first weeks and then again it does not work well anymore. Does body develop tolerance to beta blockers? Do you need to take more and more of this medication to get same effect?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol comes in two formulations, Metoprolol Tartrate and Metoprolol Succinate. If you were prescribed the Tartrate variety, 50mg, once a day as you stated, then you were on a beta blocker roller coaster with a steep peak followed by a deep valley. Metoprolol has a rather short half life of approximately 6 hours, so in 24 hours, 50mg is nearly completely metabolized. This type should be taken twice a day.
