492307 tn?1214186739 assured my several times that Zoloft has NOT cause my Thyroid to act up. I was on Zoloft for 4 years. I recently decided (with my Dr.) to go off because of sexual side effects. After being weaned off slowly for 4 weeks, my hair started coming out. TONS. I was then tested and told I was Hypo. ( I have been tired for years, so it might not be the Zoloft causing this issue with my Thyroid.) Anyway, I read 'somewhere' that Zoloft has been know to cause thyroid issues?
990510 tn?1249238897 I also take zoloft. I am wondering if the zoloft is making my thyroid worse. If so I would like to change it. I have always noticed that is does not do much for my anxiety and I am on a high dose 150 mg. my dose is now at 112 mcg for synthroid and symptoms seem to be worsening. I am frustrated. I have endocrinologist as well as a psychiatrist in order to get the proper care with my meds.
Avatar m tn Well, I was given Zoloft 6 yrs ago for depression. It worked for me, and I do believe I had a thyroid issue then. I weaned off Zoloft in Feb. then was treated for hypo. ( I didn't go off due to the thyroid issue..) I still haven't gone back on AD's since then. But there are MANY days I still think I should be on them. Zoloft worked for me.... but there are suspicions that going off of it threw my thyroid way out of whack. If I were going back on one it wouldn't be Zoloft.
Avatar n tn Ask for tests for ALL thyroid antibodies, a TSH, a Free T4, and a Free T3. Tell them you want all those tests run, and makes sure they run a TSI antibody test along with others. Tishtock, you need a new Endo.
Avatar f tn Other thyroid tests that may be ordered include a T3 test and thyroid antibodies (if autoimmune-related thyroid disease is suspected).
Avatar m tn Yes, I have hypothyroidism, and I have had no prior OCD tendancies. I will stay the course with Zoloft and thyroid replacement therapy and hope for slow improvement. Thanks!
Avatar n tn treatment for your thyroid (which effects nearly every aspect of your being, including the depression and lack of concentration) yet choose something like zoloft for the depression and another med for the concentration issues? To me, take care of the thyroid and it will take care of the rest of the issues. Just my opinion and limited understanding.
492307 tn?1214186739 I had been diagnosed with Uni Polar ( or major depression ) four years ago. ( Turns out both of these could be because of my thyroid.) Well... once I was off the Zoloft my hair started falling out TONS. I've always been tired (for years!) so my Dr. tested my thyroid. She started me on 75 mcg of synthroid, and gave me a prescription for Wellbutrin since I was getting worse with my depression by the day. I haven't started the Wellbutrin, but I have been on the 75 mcg for 5 days.
2159711 tn?1336833090 My thyroid condition is Hypothyroid as of 2005 after having the Radioactive Iodine treatment, and also had a partial hysterectomy ( i have one ovary) that same year. I was prescribed Levothyroxine112 mcg., Tramadol 50 mg 4 x per day for joint pain, Estradiol for hrc, and Zoloft 50 mg for depression . I went to another dr, when I moved this year, and they doubled my Zoloft to 100 mg per day and added Xanax .
Avatar f tn I also lost a ton of weight, which was kind of nice, but terrifying at the time. I lost 20 lbs after quitting Zoloft, and have not gained it back. I now have thyroid and gallbladder problems. Go figure! I commend you for quitting...... how are you doing now? I too come across doctors who don't know what the drugs do long term. No one really knows....... I mean, when youre messing with neurotransmitters for long periods of time, you never know if you'll be the same afterwards.
754568 tn?1233700602 ive been on zoloft , lexapro , and xanax . zoloft helps a little , lexapro makes me worse , and xanax just makes me fall asleep . but my question is , i was born with a hole in my neck , doctors dont know what to think about it , see i cant leave my house , so all i do is try to figure out whats wrong with me . i came across a web site about hypothyroidism . i was wondering if this hole in my neck goes to my thyroid gland ? it drains out a clear , stickey substance .
Avatar f tn I was never tested for thyroid hormone before I started the Zoloft. I began taking Zoloft July 2015 and stayed on it until I discussed w/ my pcp about it possibly being contributed to weight gain. Switched to Prozac April 2016.
Avatar n tn Pristiq was doing ok until I started having increased anxiety and some of my fingers were jumping. I came off and started on Zoloft. Zoloft caused me to wake up early each morning with horrible anxiety and my stomach in knots and I literally felt like I was shaking on the inside. It was a horrible few weeks. My doc decided to put me back on Celexa.
Avatar f tn Depression sucks. I know the deep depression you are talking about. Remember it's your thyroid. I have Graves too and when my thyroid gets out of whack, I start getting really depressed. It's hard especially when you have no energy. That's why when I'm well and having a good time, I make a mental note to remember what a great time I'm having. It's definitely a roller coaster of emotions so I know I have to rely on logic so I don't get sucked into a black hole.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had a total thyroidectomy after thyroid cancer. I recently came off my thyroxine drugs (Eutroxsig 150 mcg per day) to have a follow up scan since radioactive iodine treatment. I had to stop taking thyroxine for 4 weeks before the scan and the hospital gave me Liothyronine drug to take for the first two weeks and then two weeks with no drugs at all. In the first 2 weeks I lost 5 pounds in weight. Amazingly the weight seemed to come directly off the most stubborn area, my lower abdomen!!
Avatar m tn Why do you want to do this? What makes you think your body needs a break from the Synthroid? Our bodies have to have thyroid hormones all the time, not just when we feel like taking the medication. Because of the long half life of Synthroid (T4 medications), it will take a few weeks for the medication to get completely out of your system, then when you start taking it, it would take another 4-6 weeks for it to reach full potential in your blood again.
492307 tn?1214186739 I weaned myself off slowly... ( due to sexual side effects UGH ) My husband is still convince that Zoloft has messed all this (thyroid) up. Some times I think he might be on to something. I have noticed though that I feel really well in the mornings. Better than I ever did while on Zoloft. I actually laughed at something my daughter did the other day ( 3 yr old ), and it felt good. Unlike any other time.... it really caught me by suprise!
497348 tn?1283436066 That, along with the thyroid and the Zoloft is a lot for a person to carry around with them. I really believe that body, mind, emotions and spirit have to be in harmony, if one is broken, the others break down too. That's what I was taught (am Native). Why would it be embarrassing to be taking Zoloft because you work in the mental health area? Would an endorcrinologist be embarrassed to take thryroid meds?
1210047 tn?1265994928 Any research on upset stomach, gi system, when off zoloft? After 16 yrs on Zoloft, 12 yrs Zoloft w/Gabitril, I felt over medicated. Weaned off Gabitril, over period of 6 months, and no trouble sleeping through the night, or other anxiety. Felt much better, since Gabitril made me physically tired, and mind was 'foggy', as my Dr. stated. Recently weaned off zoloft, simply stopping.
377600 tn?1225163436 On the endocrine web. Except I take Zoloft. It says that that if you take Zoloft you may need more of the Synthroid. Strange. You try to fix one thing and something else happens. I've decided to try and fix the thyroid first then deal with the depression. LOL It might not work that way though. Maybe the Lexapro is the cause of your chest discomfort?
460028 tn?1209088071 i am just so down it just keeps getting worse they put me on zoloft for both depression and anxiety, i stopped takin it because i hated the side effects. i have been having such a good day, then i get home and just break down....i want it to stop. how do you make it stop? i just want to be happy. i have no one to talk to, i live in hawaii, and am from the mainland, so i have no friends or family out here, its just me and my husband.
Avatar m tn It's been just about 3 weeks with nothing, but Half a dose Effexor XR and my xanax and yesterday I went to walmart and was able to get trazadone for $4.00. I really want to switch from Effexor Xr to Zoloft at Wall-Mart they said Sam's Club has Zoloft for $19.00. I just don't know, do I just stop taking the Effexor Xr and start taking the Zoloft or do I need to taper the Effex Xr and the start the Zoloft??
Avatar n tn concerning panic attacks in the summer of 2006. The doctor gave me a sample of Zoloft (ignorance on my part of antidepressants); after the second Zoloft, I went into a major dulling effect in my personality and demeanor. I have never felt as good as prior to taking Zoloft; after numerous antidepressants, I cold turkeyed 40 mg.. off of Citalopram over 1.5 years ago. Presently, I am suffering from excruciating headaches (side and frontal lobes), anhedonia, and anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have stopped my armor thyroid until we get the results. Take 150mg of Zoloft (perhaps need to increase?) Have read that tx can cause normal thyroid to switch into hyper mode. I thought this happens later in tx? I am 1b, and in general have found that tx kicks up any already exsisting problems.
