Avatar n tn I had a above high normal thyroid peroxidase test result. 4282.8 u/ml normal range 0.00-60.00 What does this mean?
Avatar n tn s thyroiditis - I just got back my lab results and my thyroid peroxidase is 959! That seem incredibly high - TSH is 5.27. I see a general practitioner - do I need a specialist? Has anyone else had a number that high on their results?
Avatar f tn Waited four weeks and checked me again...the thyroid peroxidase has dropped about 250 points. So she upped the synthroid to 75 mcg. I was suppose to wait for five weeks this time but I didn't even make it four. I was so miserable, angry, emotional achy...I called and told her that she had to check my levels or I was going to start building a bomb in my laundry room. She checked them and I was right..the peroxidase levels had GONE UP!!!! Geeeeeezz....
Avatar n tn The antibodies are attacking your thyroid causing it to malfunction and thats why you are on Eltroxin (thyroid replacement). Whereabouts are you as Eltroxin is usually prescribed in New Zealand?
Avatar n tn my test results showed antithyroid peroxidase 202, could just tell me what this signifies,as im unaware of it at all.
Avatar f tn I just received my lab results , the thyroglobulin antibodies was 2235 , and the thyroid peroxidase was 159 . The thyroid panel , T-3 uptake 31 , T-4 8.2 and Free T4 Index was 2.7 , which are in range. So what does having high thyroglobulin, and thyroid peroxidase mean . My doctor refer me to an endocrinologist, but it will be another week before I see them. Can someone please explain what the results mean.
Avatar f tn Some people without thyroid disease may have TPO (thyroid peroxidase) antibodies. However, the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies may increase the risk of future thyroid disorders. If you have normal thyroid function with TPO antibodies, your doctor may recommend periodic checkups to watch for future thyroid problems. Do you know if they drew a TSH blood panel as well or was this normal or abnormal as well?
215021 tn?1224882457 It could either be your thyroid peroxidase, which I have read about, but never seen tested, or it could be thyroid peroxidase antibodies otherwise known as TPOab.
Avatar f tn I just received a phone call from the docs saying they reviewed my bloods and found peroxidase antibodies (280). My tsh when it was last tested 2 months ago was 2.51 with a t3 of 14.4. What does this mean and could it cause my symptoms? I'm getting so frustrated and it is so difficult getting help especially with two little ones to look after, I'm so desperate to find an answer.
Avatar f tn It means you have antibodies against your own thyroid, you have probably Hashimoto thyroiditis. Now you need to check your TSH, free T3 and free T4 and make an ultrasound of your thyroid. I have high Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO) and I'm not sick (.....yet). Read this: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn About two weeks after that, I had some regular blood work done by my doctor in an attempt to get information on a miscarriage that I suffered at the end of last year. The blood work revealed that I have an elevated level of thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Could the thyroid antibodies have given me a false negative on my HIV test? All other blood work was normal, and my HIV exposure was over a year ago. Thank you for your help!
Avatar f tn The antibodies do attack the thyroid glands and continue over a period of time until the thyroid glands are destroyed. During this period of destruction, your normal thyroid hormone production is gradually going down, requiring gradual increases in thyroid meds to offset the loss of normal thyroid production. Just because your test results are within the so-called "normal" ranges does not mean that they are adequate for YOU. The ranges are far too broad for that to be the case.
Avatar n tn The TPO gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called thyroid peroxidase. This enzyme plays a central role in the function of the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped tissue in the lower neck. Thyroid peroxidase assists the chemical reaction that adds iodine to a protein called thyroglobulin, a critical step in generating thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones play an important role in regulating growth, brain development, and the rate of chemical reactions in the body (metabolism).
Avatar f tn I can tell you of my experience. Being positive for thyroid peroxidase meant that I had autoimmune thyroid disease. That means the thyroid tissue changes in some way so that your body no longer recognizes the tissue as its own, and your immune system begins to attack your thryoid-- usually making it dysfunctional at some point. My doctor told me that he would prescribe thyroid hormone to reduce inflammation of the thyroid and restore thyroid balance.
3537296 tn?1347549738 Hi I have been having trouble with my thyroid as well my thyroid peroxidase antibodies were 278 and my t3 and t4 were normal. I have gain over 60lbs. in the last past year. I also had an extremely low vit. D level until I started the vitamins its in normal range as of now.I have really dry skin on my back no matter how much I moisterize it, its still the same. Are these the signs of having hypothyroid?
Avatar f tn Last week my ob/gyn ordered the basic TSH test because my cycle is changing and due to a 30 lb weight gain in just 2 1/2 months. I have had thyroid testing completed in the past and have been told I'm fine. I read an article about the TSH norm being changed so I wondered if my previous levels fell into the "abnormal" range, which they didn't. In 2004 my TSH was 1.55 and in 2007 it was 1.32. I understand that this is apparently normal.
Avatar f tn No need to be concerned. Your high Thyroid Peroxidase test is indicative of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is the primary cause for diagnosed hypothyroidism. With Hashi's the autoimmune system erroneously identifies the thyroid gland as foreign to the body and produces antibodies to attack and eventually destroy the gland. As this progresses, the output of thyroid hormones T4 and T3 is gradually diminished and the TSH rises in an attempt to stimulate more output of hormone.
Avatar f tn The Synthroid is to offset the loss of natural thyroid hormone as your thyroid glands are being destroyed by the antibodies. Some Hashi's patients have reported that selenium seems to reduce the level of antibodies, but that is only anecdotal info. Also, if you consider selenium you need to do so cautiously, since it can be toxic when excessive. Frequently hypo patients find that TSH will be suppressed when taking thyroid meds.
Avatar f tn my doctor noticed that my thyroid felt full so she ordered blood tests, all my bloodwork was completely normal, tsh, t3,t4, thyrogloubin, calcitonin. Only my thyroid peroxidase was slightly abnormal (41). is there a chance i have cancer?
Avatar m tn Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies are thyroid specific; hence the name.... They can be present in small amounts in other autoimmune diseases, but they do not attack other organs. .
Avatar n tn Perhaps you need more testing than just thyroid. If you only sleep in 2 hour increments, there is something wrong. You only mention TSH and the antibody tests - what about Free T3 and Free T4? TSH is just not enough to know what is going on. How do you know if your pituitary is fine? I do not envy you thyroid changes - they take time to adjust. http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/thyroid_antibodies/test.
Avatar m tn i had recently went for my yearly checkup all my bloodwork came back normal including all thyroid levels...but on mt thyroid peroxidase level was 54. I had it recheck 2 weeks later and it came back 58. I have no symptoms of any thyroid problems. iam just worried to what it could mean. I have been to a ent dr cause i had a wierd feeling in my throat when i swallowed so he sent me for a swollow study that came back neg.
