1475492 tn?1332884167 It has everything to do with your vision, however - if you have white spots, black spots or flaring colored spots in your eyes, that indicates damage to the optic nerve. I have damage both to the optic nerve and to the retinal nerve fiber layer. I certainly don't want to rain on your parade. I personally had changes to my face as a result of muscle weakness. My mouth on the right side sagged, as well as the right eyelid. The weakness didn't cause bagginess, however.
744962 tn?1270942038 I am Hypethyroid but due to over medication was Hyper for about a year during this time was on Thyroxin 100mcg and Armour Thyroid 125mcg. Medication was adjusted to 50 Thyroxin and 40 Armour after a liver reading. Recently been put onto 50mcg Thyroxin and 20mcg of Cytomel. My energy levels are much better but still find from time to time that I have a sore throat and notice that my eyes feels dry, gritty and itchy - my righ eye is red on the lower eyelid.
Avatar n tn My eyes bother me often and I have trouble making eye contact. My aniexty seems to stem from problems with my eyes as well as some Panic attack like symptoms. I am on Thyroid medication for low thyroid but I seem to have many of the symtoms of over active thyroid. Could I have Graves disease even if my eyes don't protrude and my thyroid level is ok now? It seems that I have to keep upping my thyroid medication to ease my eye problems but I often have too much aniext.
Avatar f tn Regardless of whether or not you have symptoms, you should get your thyroid blood levels tested. Here are the tests to request: Free T3, Free T4, TSH. This can be done as part of routine bloodwork, along with a CBC, vitamin tests such as D and B12, etc.
Avatar n tn Have a loved one watch your eyes as you follow their finger up and down, if you eyelid lags behind the top of your eyeball it's eyelid lag and a sigh of graves disease. Or again it could just be *sigh* old age leading to dry eyes.
Avatar f tn ophthalmopathy, your eyeball bulges out past its protective orbit (exophthalmos). This occurs as tissue and muscles behind your eyes, swell and cause the eyeball to move forward. Because your eye is so far forward, the front surface of your eye can become dry. Cigarette smokers with Graves' disease are more likely to have eye problems.
1201433 tn?1328997637 Hypothyroidism can cause fluid retention and I also had these ginormous 'bags' under my eyes when on anti-thyroid meds. Maybe you have gone hypo and need the meds reduced/increased.....depending whether on a T4 med or antithyroid meds. When was the last time you had labs done?
1201433 tn?1328997637 I used hot packs and sometimes cold packs on my eyes to help and I took benedryl and Zyrtec. I was also on thyroid meds during treatment (and I still am on them) but I didn't find that it was connected to the thyroid meds and, in fact, it went away after treatment. Since you did notice a direct connection to the thyroid meds, you should talk to the prescribing doc. It could be an allergic reaction.
Avatar f tn , if the thyroid is responding to the meds, but the eyes are still bulging, is it necessary to remove the thyroid before surgery of the eyes can be done? Is there anything that can be done for bulging eyes besides surgery?
Avatar f tn I was blaming my fibromyalgia for my eyes hurting. I went to eye doctor and he informed me that my "eyes are a mess". He said my eyes were not producing tears and the surface of my eyes have all kinds of micro-abrasions. Has anyone out there had this problem?
Avatar f tn Can hypothyroidism be the cause of dry eyes and if so can thyroid medication stop the eyes from being dry?

4544656 tn?1371593548 I recently raised my armour dose and my eyes are itchy. I do not have allergies and have never had this problem before. Just wondering if its possibly related to thyroid. I hate to blame everything on thyroid, but just thought I'd ask.
458072 tn?1291415186 - not the stuff that is used to get the red out. I hope for your sake your eye problem is something else - thyroid eye disease is something I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy. And, a piece of advice - find an ophthalmologist (MD), not an optometrist (OD), if your eyes continue to bother you.
Avatar n tn go for a thyroid test as swelling of eyes might be a symptom of that...
219609 tn?1210348114 Sorry I was bit high on T4 not T3,I work in the desert sun at temps near 120 a day, or did till my thyroid crash, as they think, I think I was dehydrating, and the doc over in the middle east just jumped on the thyroid issue, since i was getting dizzy spells,,but nothing else,,they saw my scare on my neck, plus they said i was puffy in the face around my eyes,,I did not have dry skin,,my hair grows like weeds all over my body,I shave my head and its all back in a month...
1855970 tn?1325823613 You need to have your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist (be sure it's an MD) and also get your thyroid levels checked with your primary care doc. If he doesn't see anything in your labs, you might need an MRI. Do not just watch and wait.
Avatar n tn I just spoke to my doctors office, and they think that it is my thyroid dying off and that I need my bloodwork redone, although I just had it done two weeks ago. I am not on any medication yet, as my levels haven't changed yet. She thought that once I get on some medication the puffiness would get better. I hope that's the case. I look like I have been crying for days.
Avatar n tn I have had six steroid infusions for my eyes and so far it hasnt helped. I don’t want to make the eyes worse since it has already caused double vision and I am having to wear prism glasses. The endocrinologist wants me off of the Methimazole because it can cause a serious blood disorder. Has anyone been through this situation, and what is your advice? Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn I have noticed that when I am really tired and have over done it my eyes get glassy and bloodshot. I am noticing now that my left eye is starting to protrude a bit. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn They have recommended me to use the eye drops like artificial tears during day and refresh pm ointment for the night and I am using them. Is there a way that I can reduce the bulging eyes and get my eyes normal without surgery?? Also, Since november 2010 my thyroid conditions have changed and I now have hypothyroid. Ever since the transformation of thyroid levels I have gained almost like 20 pounds of weight with in a month's time.
Avatar n tn you need to go to the doctors and ask him to provide you with prescription eye drop for your eyes being dry and take tylonale but only like 2 tablets every 2 hours
Avatar n tn I cannot get ANYONE to give me Free T3 and Free T4 testing.....T4 and TSH is IT! I have a feeling I have a T3 issue and noone and i do mean NOONE will test me. Argh! Many pple have sent me to search websites for doctors..but its just bad location..
