Avatar f tn Our 15-year-old Chihuahua mix, Gracie, developed a malignant tumor on the gum in her mouth after being on Optimmune eye ointment (cyclosporine) for a year and a half and then on Tacrolimus for 6 months to treat her dry eyes I too now have no doubt that the cancer was caused by those eye treatments. When told about the eye meds, our vet oncologist blurted out: "Well, there you go!
Avatar m tn My dog has been treated for dry eyes for a year. She has been on many medications. Tacrolimus, cyclsporine, pilocarpine, neopolydex, gentamycin, tobramycin, simplicef, gabapenten, genteal drops, oint. gel, refresh, blink, now she is also taking tramadol for pain. She has been wearing the hood for 6 months to prevent her for scratching her eyes. She just turned 4 and and she is in so much pain, We finally decided to have surgery and have found out it is 2600.00 per eye.
Avatar m tn t afford 2800 for both of my dogs eyes. The prices of everything now days are unbelievable. I live in Dallas and it's dry here to begin with. My dog Webster has zero tears in both eyes.
574219 tn?1217352418 Cod liver has been used for decades for eyes, both to ingest it as a supplement and on the eye for severe conditions, see here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1142681/, it is no secret.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar n tn Besivance may be OK....I am unsure. It would be fine for human use, but is it fine for dogs? I don't know. I would recommend calling your vet to ask advice about safety for its use in dogs. If you are not sure, then make an appointment with your vet for an appropriate antibiotic lotion. Your dog may even need oral antibiotics as well.
Avatar m tn s biopsy and lab numbers clearly show him heading down the road to fibrosis and cirrohsis, would it make sense to push for trying the new drugs at least the approved ones for non-transplant such as teleprevir and bocepavir? Otherwise the patient is looking at another transplant which would seem to be quite a negative option.
Avatar f tn Sorry for the eye problem, our Westie has dry eyes that I treat with the same stuff that doesn't work for you. Given the cost of the stuff ($35 for a month supply, very small tube) I'd not use it for years if it didn't give results. We were told twice a day for the life of the dog, the med treats only the symptom, not the cause. I generally use only one a day and twice if I see any mucus formation.
Avatar m tn i wouldnt lower the tacrolimus dose further
Avatar m tn I just went through cataract surgery in November. It can be very worth it but there is a lot of aftercare and there can be complications. My dog did not have any issues other than the cataracts except for some inflammation. After surgery we had to deal with one minor ulceration and one fairly major ulceration. She is now healed and doing great. She is no longer fearful like she became when she couldn't see, and no longer slamming into walls either!
Avatar f tn thanks so much for your input. I did stop taking my B6 vitamins for a while so I did just started to take them again. This time the symtoms did not last as long. I also think taking benadryl helped. I have been to a dermatologist and they just told me it was contact dermatitis and gave me Elidel.
Avatar f tn We have used prescription Optimmune for dry eyes in our 9 yo Westie - it works and there have been no other side-effects/symptoms that I have detected. The stuff is rather expensive, a very small tube is something like $35 - good news is I use only 1/4" of the bead that comes out of the tube (ointment) in each eye. So one tube last about 3 months, maybe a week or two more. Our vet said non-treatment could result in the dog going blind. He is already deaf, blind too would be too much.
1627010 tn?1299446388 She has been seeing a canine opthomologist for this problem for several years. He is the one that diagnosed her. I have taken her to him twice in two weeks and he says there is nothing else he can do, just put the drops in as often as possible. Two different vets have seen her. One was for a second opinion and he agreed with her opthomologist and her regular vet checked her eye and found out that she had an ulcer on her cornea. It was causing her a lot of pain.
Avatar f tn Someone asked for suggestions on what to feed itchy dogs/dogs with allergies, though I couldn't find the original question. Anyways, I had suggested grain-free dog foods with limited ingredients, (as most allergic reactions come from food). I just came across another one, by **** Van Patten, "Natural Balance" "Limited Ingredients Diets" which is grain-free and (comes in a purple bag, Sweet Potato & Venison formula).
Avatar n tn As for the twitching, my dogs do a little of that when they seam to dream...but with the eyes rolled back and the tongue sticking out, I'm almost wondering if it's some kind of seizure. Not really sure, though... How bad is the twitching? If I were you, I would take a trip to the vet, or even just call them, and see what they have to say. Good luck!

Avatar n tn Is it true that corn or corn meal cause allergy to dogs? And also is it the reason why my dog has teary eyes and also the smell. What kind of food you can recommend to me that will fit to my dog. I saw couple of brands in the internet particular is the Natura Brands.
Avatar n tn Not so sure about tacrolimus. Look at the law offices looking for people treated with tacrolimus creams. Still some concern out there about serious side effects. Don't forsee approval anytime soon in U.S. As a side note, have your doctor look for demodex follicularis. Some research indicates that they can worsen lid margin disease.
