Common Questions and Answers about Tacrolimus for dogs

Avatar f tn It is entirely possible, however, for humans to develop the high grade cancer and for dogs to develop the low grade cancer. I wouldn't be ready to give up or give in until any tests that would determine which type your dog has have been done. Please keep us up to date on how he is doing.
Avatar m tn s biopsy and lab numbers clearly show him heading down the road to fibrosis and cirrohsis, would it make sense to push for trying the new drugs at least the approved ones for non-transplant such as teleprevir and bocepavir? Otherwise the patient is looking at another transplant which would seem to be quite a negative option.
Avatar m tn i wouldnt lower the tacrolimus dose further
Avatar m tn My dog has been treated for dry eyes for a year. She has been on many medications. Tacrolimus, cyclsporine, pilocarpine, neopolydex, gentamycin, tobramycin, simplicef, gabapenten, genteal drops, oint. gel, refresh, blink, now she is also taking tramadol for pain. She has been wearing the hood for 6 months to prevent her for scratching her eyes. She just turned 4 and and she is in so much pain, We finally decided to have surgery and have found out it is 2600.00 per eye.
Avatar m tn The specialist reviewed all of the options with us - cyclosporine, pilocarpine or tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said that very rarely has she seen any dog respond to cyclosporine after not responding to tacrolimus. She also said that because our dog doesn't have a dry, goopy nose, that pilocarpine wouldn't be a first choice. She recommended a mix of tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said sirolimus is new. I have not been able to find anything about this drug on the internet.
461838 tn?1255790216 Was only supposed to take it for 10 days for gout, but a careless Kaiser doctor had me on for 30 days. Man, it turned me into a first-class *****!
Avatar n tn Not so sure about tacrolimus. Look at the law offices looking for people treated with tacrolimus creams. Still some concern out there about serious side effects. Don't forsee approval anytime soon in U.S. As a side note, have your doctor look for demodex follicularis. Some research indicates that they can worsen lid margin disease.
Avatar m tn I was a bit put off by the price at first (the optho wanted $2400 for just the one eye, and still a lifetime of tacrolimus for the right). I live in Canada and our vets are for some reason way over priced. I did find one in Michigan that is able to do the surgery for $920. I've gone to see them and they seem competent, doing about 1 of these surgeries per month. Apparently it's quite common. They did give me some interesting info that her regular optho never bothered to share with me.
Avatar f tn I had my first session of laser hair removal for lower legs yesterday and after a few hours my legs started itching. The itch was so bad that I couldn't help not to scratch them and today I noticed red spots all over my lower legs. The red spots look like rash and are itchy. I'm worried that the laser might have burned my skin. Dose anybody knows if this is normal or I should stop laser hair removal treatment?
Avatar n tn there are prograf assistance programs that the company offers. If this is not feasible than using other cheaper medications such as verapamil for example for HTN for example will alllow much lower doses of prograf to be used (it delays metabolism of the medication) and thus it comes out cheaper.
Avatar f tn Hormonal contraceptives such as the pill and the patch may increase the blood level of tacrolimus. Tacrolimus may also reduce the effectiveness of these hormonal contraceptives. For this reason women who could get pregnant should ideally use a non-hormonal method of contraception, eg condoms, to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine. Seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Avatar f tn AS I HAVE SUFFERED BREATHLESSNESS AND WALKING PROBLEMS,I HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF TACROLIMUS AND PUT ON NEORAL-YET THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT IN MY CONDITION.IS THERE ANY OTHER ANTI REJECTION DRUG THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND (I HAVE HAD A LIVER TRANSPLANT RECENTLY)? IN YOUR EXPERIENCE,CAN MY SITUATION BE IMPROVED?THANKS.
Avatar f tn My tacrolimus level is 4.2 after 4 months of liver transplant, Is it dangerous? what should i do?
Avatar n tn For a couple months now I have had this red rash around my lips. Its not dry skin it sometimes has dead skin and other times it just red and sore. I have been to a doctor 2 or 3 times about it and they keep telling me to stop licking my lips and it will go away. I know for i fact I DO NOT LICK MY LIPS! i have been putting some blistex medicated ointment on them that helps a little with the redness and makes them comfortable to live with.
Avatar n tn Your physician may choose to treat the bumps with other topical medications, such as metronidazole, erythromycin, benzoyl peroxide, tacrolimus, clindamycin, or pimecrolimus. In more severe cases, oral antibiotics (such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or erythromycin) may be required. Perioral dermatitis is a difficult condition to treat effectively. It often requires several months of treatment.
274158 tn?1276347187 Not towards me. Just other dogs......I thought he was showing aggression towards my daughter, but he was just trying to sniff her crotch! He is gross! I guess that's what dogs do! But, no agression towards us humans, just dogs, which isn't fun....
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
