Synthroid dosage weight

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid dosage weight

synthroid

Avatar f tn Has anyone heard that the dosage is based on your weight? My numbers are perfect, according to the doctor, however, I am always tired, have reflux problems that the gastro doesn't understand why, I am constantly having hard stools, not gaining or losing weight, and getting very frustrated. I keep thinking I need my dosage raised but no one will listen to me. Am I thinking the right way or not? Help! Need your advise.
Avatar n tn Dosage in my opinion is not based on weight. I am 200mcg and only weigh 100 lbs. After my TT, I was started on 125mcg & then I only weighed 88 lbs. Can you find another Endo who will go by symptoms as well as lab tests?
Avatar n tn I had the exact same problem of severe toe/foot/lower leg cramps that sometimes scared me. These started a couple of years after I started Synthroid. (The Synthroid saved me.) But my doctor should have told me what two of my friends told me who take Sythroid--that I needed to take Magnesium. Within a week or two the cramps were all gone, and my fatigue level was better. I'm SO THANKFUL! (I always take the Mag.
Avatar n tn I guess my question is, what can cause my synthroid dosage to drop like this? It seems like something is speeding up my metaboilsm - worries me that cancer may be doing this. Any advice would help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn So I finally got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and just picked up my prescription of Synthroid, the problem is, it's 100mcg and the doctor said she would start me out on a low dose. I was under the impression it would be in the 25-50 mcg range. My question is, is it too high of a dose? If it is how do I know? Do I break it in half? Agh, the confusion!
Avatar f tn I was put on 150 mcg of Synthroid for over a year and recently received a call from my doctor saying my levels were low and prescribed me 125 mcg of Synthroid. I don't understand why he did that. Isn't 150 mcg a higher dosage than 125 mcg?
Avatar n tn Hello. I was wondering if I could get an opinion. I was on 112 mg of Synthroid. My results were as follows: TSH .87 (.67 - 4.5) Free T4 1.2 (.67 - 1.76) I was feeling a little bit hyper on this dosage. I was nervous, not sleeping , etc. I think that I seem to do better when my TSH is a little higher. I already had 100 mg of Synthroid, so I started taking the 100's, with the knowledge of my doctor, but by day 3, I was crying, emotional, and not feeling good at all.
Avatar f tn She switched me from Levo to Synthroid. She was sure that Synthroid would work much better and that the dosage could be much lower. We switched to 175 of Synthroid and she asked me to keep an eye out for symptoms of hyper as that dosage should be more than enough for full replacement at my weight if there were no absorption issues. On that dosage of Synthroid: TSH 23.50 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L THYROXINE FREE 0.86 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL She upped the Synthroid to 200 +5 MCGs Cytomel.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoxed with Graves disease in 2005. I had a thyroid ablation in November of 05 and began to feel better quickly with the help of a beta-blocker. AFter 6 mos. I was taken off the beta-blocker because my TSH levels were where I could be medicated with an artificial thyroid medication. I was given Synthroid but I don't remember the dosage. My dosage was changed probably 3 times over the next year, and each time I gained probably 15 or 20 pounds.
Avatar m tn So many people say they've gained weight on Synthroid but has anyone lost weight after getting OFF Synthroid? I've gained a ton of weight on Synthroid but I tried Nature-Throid and that didnt work at all so Im kind of stuck with it but wonder if I should keep trying to find something else. If it's any different weight-wise on other meds..
Avatar n tn Most on T4 (Synthroid) need the morning TSH around 1.0 to stop gaining weight. You probably started gaining weight on the Synthroid because your thyroid gland was suddenly getting a little bit of hormone so it didn't have to work as hard because it was getting supplemented, but not with enough Synthroid. Most likely you need an increase in the dosage, but you were away. Usually the dosage is adjusted every 6 weeks until the proper dosage is found, then its tested every 3, 6, or 12 months.
Avatar f tn Hello. I was wondering if I could get some advice on my current dose of Synthroid. I was on 88 mcg with a TSH of 5.8. I was increased to 100 mcg. I have been on 100 for 3 weeks. I went ahead and tested my TSH after only 3 weeks because I wasn't feeling great. I did not test Free's. The TSH is now 3.44. My symptoms are anxiety, constipation, interrupted sleep, etc.
Avatar n tn Symptoms of overmedication could include inability to sleep, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, feeling overheated.
Avatar f tn Could I get some help with my results and dosage of Synthroid? (I had Graves in 1993 and missed to check my blood months ago so I went into the hypo zone with TSH =52 in May). here my current situation: 8/4/2010 - TSH = 4.62 (I was recommended .125 Synthroid) 8/30/2010 TSH = 0.33 (moved to .112 mg Synthroid) 9/14/2010 TSH = 0.358 (moved to .100 mg Synthroid) Does it seem ok to you to land me in the right range?
Avatar m tn I guess the best answer to your question would be "It depends". It depends on the severity of the hypothyroidism, the initial blood levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones (Free T3 and Free T4), the dosage of Synthroid, and the response of the specific patient to the Synthroid. If you will post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges, your symptoms of being hypothyroid, and your dosage of Synthroid, perhaps a member can narrow it down a bit.
Avatar n tn Hello. I was wondering if I could get your opinion. I was on 112 mg of Synthroid. My results were as follows: TSH .87 (.67-4.5) Free T4 1.17 I feel a little hyper. I suspect that I do better with my TSH a little higher. Would the next step be to drop down to 100 mg of Synthroid? Thank you for your opinion.
Avatar n tn 1 mcg of Synthroid and that he was going to change my dosage to 0.75 mcg. If my TSH level is already low, wouldn't lowering my dosage of Synthroid make this level even lower? Are palpitations a symptom of low TSH? I am due to have a repeat TSH in 2 months at which time I will ask the M.D. to add a T3 and T4 (these have not been drawn for some time).....
Avatar n tn Hi. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism over 5 years ago now. I am very good about taking my meds and get my blood taken periodically to check TSH levels. I have been on .88 of synthroid now for the last 10 months. I recently went to my gyno and he took some blood to check my tsh because I was there. I usually go to another doctor but I let him take the blood. My results came back with a tsh of .12. They wanted to raise my synthroid to .1 . Shouldn't they want to lower the dosage?
