How to use synthroid for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about How to use synthroid for weight loss

synthroid

Avatar n tn Thanks, Barb, Sooo glad to have you with us!!! There is a little way to "jump start" your weight loss .. it is the same thing used to help us over a plateau. Eat 200 less calories than normal for Day 1 and Day 2, then eat 200 calories more than normal for Day 3. So, if I'm eating 1,400 calories a day, I will eat 1,200 for Days 1 and 2 and then 1,600 for Day 3.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
460348 tn?1213452322 FT4 test to see were your at and how much T3 is getting to each cell. Also, Iodoral is good for you and helps with weight loss do some research on it and you will know what you need.
Avatar f tn I am getting ready to convert to Armor from Synthroid. Any suggestions about easy conversion without major side effects like weight gain, hair loss, tremors, or arrythmias? Don't want to go hypo, and don't want to be hyper. I have been on Synthroid due to RAI for years and have had every bad side effect their is. The Endo's always made my dose to high and went just by the numbers. That kicked me into heart arrythmias, diah, tremors for years.
Avatar n tn Most on T4 (Synthroid) need the morning TSH around 1.0 to stop gaining weight. You probably started gaining weight on the Synthroid because your thyroid gland was suddenly getting a little bit of hormone so it didn't have to work as hard because it was getting supplemented, but not with enough Synthroid. Most likely you need an increase in the dosage, but you were away. Usually the dosage is adjusted every 6 weeks until the proper dosage is found, then its tested every 3, 6, or 12 months.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar n tn How long have you been on the 2.5 mcg of T3? It's customary to decrease T4 med by 20 to 25 mcg for every 5 mcg of T3 added in order to keep FT4 from getting too high... With your FT4 above range and your FT3 right at 50%, it appears that you could drop your Synthroid back to 100 mcg and add another 2.5 mcg of T3 and you'd probably be about where you need to be.
Avatar f tn If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn The Thyroid Disorders Community is a great place to be as you work through stabilizing your medication regimen. I have the priviledge of knowing several of the members in this community and have found them to be most knowledgeable, caring, helpful and supportive. There is also an excellent Thyroid Tracker available as well! I see you are struggling with some weight issues, which can be common with various thyroid disorders.
Avatar m tn Ashwaghanda is not typically used for thyroid function. It's normally, used for adrenal support. I've read that it's supposed to help with weight loss, but no luck here; save your money, unless you have adrenal issues, which I did. There is nothing you can buy OTC that will increase thyroid function. It's not unusual when starting a thyroid medication, for symptoms to get worse, before they get better.
Avatar f tn Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar n tn Now here I am 60lbs heavier healthy eating but cannot lose weight. Can anyone please provide me wiht some information as to how to lose the weight and what I can expect realistically. Are any diet aids- pills safe to take without risking my heatlh. I excerise 3-4 days a week not sur ehow else to fix this disease.
Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar f tn d never recommend phentermine, even though it does work for weight loss. The problem is that when people stop taking it, they almost always gain back everything they lost, plus some.
474314 tn?1219345522 Thanks to all who go to back to me. I guess putting on weight to feel better is all part of the thyroid no matter what you do. I am pushing my TT off to July. I want to see how I do on a very small dose of Tapazole before going through with the procedure. Yesterday I felt great. I had no headaches and some energy. I actaully made dinner and hung out with family. Hopefully it's an upswing. If I feel better I am more likely to work-out. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn synthroid will not cause hot flashes hair loss or weight gain. the synthroid will keep these from happeneing. you need to be on synthroid or maybe perhaps armour. I am doing qui te well on the synthroid.
Avatar m tn pretty pissed off headin to the doctors to get a perscription can anybody tell me about how long before i begin to lose weight cuz ive been dieting and exercising with no results hoping this is my problem
Avatar n tn I just noticed that you said you do the SlimFast almost continuously. Number one, it has a lot of sugar and artificial junk and preservatives in it which is not the best for you. If I'm not mistaken, the sodium content (to preserve the stuff) is pretty high. With Thyroid issues, we have to watch the sodium in some of the "health foods" out there as well as the sugar content in the "low fat" foods that help them not taste like dirt or tree bark.
Avatar f tn When TSH levels are too high, it means that you are hypo. Although some people gain weight whether hypo or hyper, weight gain is traditionally associated with hypo. Increasing Synthroid should allow you to better maintain your weight. Please check your dosage...are you taking 100 mcg and being increased to 120? Your doctor should be adjusting your meds based on free T3 and free T4 as well as TSH. Does he test FT3 and FT4 as well?
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any answers, suggestions or the same problems. I am having a liver biopsy on monday to see why liver counts are high. thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Low energy, feelings of fatigue, anxiety, depression, mental fog, body aches and weight loss. Normal weight for me is 132 to 135. I am currently at 129 and I will drop to 125 over night. I have found bloodwork from 1999. Appears I have always been on the hyperthyroid side. Here is my bloodwork info that I have. 1999 TSH - 1.0 Everything else appears normal. In April 2010 - couple months after thyroidectomy TSH - 0.04, Free Thyroxine 1.15, Sept. 2010 TSH 0.02, T3 in normal range, T4 2.4.
Avatar f tn Oops --- I meant hypO/Hashi's NOT hypER/Hashi........sorry about that.
